Lunarea's and Celianna's Modern Day Tile Pack made me so happy I decided to share my little efforts at creating modern day "treasure chests."

Honestly, the one thing I most wanted was a dumpster, so when I saw one in the set, I bought it straight off.

Obviously, pirates are not hiding loot as they did in the olden days on the streets of Washington, D.C. and New York City. But my strategy for "treasure chests" and other places to look for discarded or hidden items for modern settings follows:
"Didn't you know everybody's got a little larceny in them?" which is what Bing Crosby said in "White Christmas."

Footlockers
Strongboxes
Mailboxes
Medicine Cabinets (for heal potions) and Cabinets in Hospitals
Cardboard Boxes in Alleys
Stacks of Tires in Warehouses

ALL MATERIALS NEED TO BE PROPERLY CREDITED, please!

Please credit GrandmaDeb for animating the tiles and editing them to size and such.
Please credit the sources for the original tiles as well.
Please do not repost. Thank you.

EB's cardboard box tiles in the Modern Set were the source for these.
(I just added shadow and animated the opening flaps.)

St Tatsuya Seo's Trunk was recolored/edited to make these

I edited an XP trash can from Pixel Art World - ysmto make this:

YSM/Pixel Art World was also the source for the tire tiles

and I used the RTP to make this mailbox:

That cardboard box is a perfect chest! I'm using those non-animated boxes as it is and these will be perfect! Thank you! :3

Then you might like these edits - just added a shadow, and formatted them for VX.
Plus I added a box with a large enough surface to add an icon, in case you want your box to have something inside. =]

All inspired by Kimaila's stuff with a wee edit by Grandmadeb - no credit needed to Grandma, it's just EB's box edited.

Yep, elsewhere that's what I go by.

The trash cans look a little...16 bit-ish.

I am totally open to suggestions. There just weren't any good containers to replace the RTP "chests" when I started this little effort of mine. As I have said a gillion times, I am no artist. But I still am willing to try and contribute.

And from my perspective, if I were making a Modern World game, I'd look for stuff in trash cans. =]
There aren't very many treasure chests in my neighborhood.

I think we should compile here any find related to modern tiles.
I found these today, give proper credits to the owners.

well...in persona 3 the treasure chests took the form of briefcases in the dungeons.
perhaps a selection of brief/atache cases that open and close would be nice.

Already got you covered on that score, Chaos =]

but the first link is new to me, thanks.

@StrawberryCat - thanks, but I just meant way to improve on the trash can. =]
I'm not a big enough talent to be quite so flexible as to create things without some base to work from. =D

I have seen a briefcase style chest once before on RPGmaker.net...though that was long ago and I doubt the image is still up.

These are so fun! Are they able to be used commercially if we picked up the modern day resource pack?

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy them.

The trunk, trash can and tires are derived from the sources I credit in the OP, so you will have to follow those rules.

Everything else is from EB, so if you own EB's stuff (VX, Ace...) you are good to go for whatever.

As far as the Modern World Resource Pack, this stuff is not really related to the commercial packs at all.

The commercial packs are original art - I'm just a dabbler.

But have fun with them!

Awesome, fantastic stuff Deb.

One suggestion, if I may:

The final frame of the cardboard box open animation seems a little off. I'm pretty sure it's because the flaps seem to get longer, appearing to extend all the way to the bottom of the box. It would look better if they were about less than half as long as the height of the box.

Other than that, great animations for someone that says they're "not an artist." :P

Edit: And also, probably for a slightly more natural end pose, the flaps should be slanted instead of pressed firmly against the sides of the box.
