Square has a good history of making romance work. The romance in FF IX was playful but heartfelt. In VIII it nearly encompassed half of the story. In X Tidus and Yuna just had great chemistry. I've rarely seen this in other game series but it'd be nice to see more of it.
Oh, and Mass Effect has always had fun romance options to me.
