  • Really struggling with the sealed cave in FF4, stupid monsters keep using a skill called "Blaze" almost oneshots my whole party and they always seemto get to use it three times in a row before i can even charge my skills... WTF...

    If they are using blaze equip something like fire shield to absorb the damage. I always find that cave to be tough mainly because of the trap doors and the boss.

    the trap doors where a breeze, i had Cecil with Agaes shield and draw attacks, so the doors kill skill would be un-affective.


    and i has as much diamond armor as possible, but i was severly under-leveled (cecil was lv 38 :p ) i read an online guide that suggested about level 50+ so i just stayed outside and grinded some local mobs and then flew threw the cave.

    I prefer ABS, in the sense that it takes time to create, develop and be released, as to it would also be your learning guide to other systems out there...though we are talking about the complexity of the coding.

    ive done some basic coding of each type of system, and im really unsure of what type to continue with. imo modifying the default system is actually harder ( especially for things like ATB)


    i mean, for an ABS all you need is each event o have an Enemy ID, a way of targeting an event and a way of using a skill/item against the event ( all of theis took me like an hour...)

    i will, gonna wait till i finish the game first and do a little research on them, i initally thought it was just some cool abilities like counter ect..


    Now i realise that it drastically effects statistics, so it would be a perfect addition to my current stat related scripts ($D13x actor scripts)

    Wrote a keyboard name input script (release tomorrow) it allows for all "normal" keys to be used and imo thats enough, but should i include keys such as ",.:mad:~;'#?/[]{}-_=+\|`¬" ??

    Normal keys are enough imo. And those special keys are different on every keyboard in a different country. Don't know if that would become a problem.

    oooh yea, thats a fair point. i just went and found all the keycodes as well lol.


    To be fair, i assume it would only be english and american counntries that used my keyboard features anyway. so it wouldnt be too hard to change the few characters that where different ? i dont think...

    I feel like im just exhaling scripts these past few days, every day ive wrote like 2 scripts in about an hour each
    So i wrote a skills exp/level script, works completely fine, you gain 1 exp for each use of the skill. simple. the only problem is, iwant to have passive skills(like atk damage + 20%) and the percentage of param increase depends on the skill level. but you can never use these passive skills, so how would you increase their level ? any ideas anyone ?

    Have passive skills gain experience by linking them up with suitable active skills. For example, have physical combat skills link up with the passive skill that increases base attack damage. To keep it balanced though, have passive skills take longer to level up.

    i guess i could add a few notetags for exp gain method, like <exp_per_battle> - would gain 1 exp per battle, <exp_per_monster> gain 1 exp per monster killed, <exp_for_defend> - gain 11 exp each time player defends (takes damage) or attacks, or dies, or time played...

    Working on the finishing touches for my new equipment system. so far i have ... individual equipment, equipment levels/exp, durability, randomized stats, grades, teirs, weapon type damage variance, equip requirements... am i missing anything ?

    You need to show the weapon on the sprites and have it change with each upgrade. Also cracks when the durability of the weapon gets low. Also I want some donuts. Better get on that.

    @ Thalzon, im making an equipment system , not a battle system or "character looks" system. the donuts though... thats a damn good point ! :p


    also, the weapon icon does/can chane with each teir(not upgrade but i may implement that too)

    My $D13x equipment system is looking epic !! Simply cant beat having Levels, Exp, Durability, Sockets(for putting stones in) and 100% randomized equipment. Love it !!

    Yea i think i will, its just sooo large, ive always abandoned my other projects long before this point.


    Maybe a way to reduce how "messy" it looks is to learn to write my scripts in a more organized fashion :D

    yea i have been playing around with black and platinum trying to get a feel for the things i have missed. the only one it seems is fishing, so far i have all things like weight, height, species, types, evolutions, capture ( all pokeball effects), party wipe ( and lose gold) , real time effects to determine night-time ect, i still have to create sandstorm weather but all other weather is fine, battle weather , all things like natures and iv ect, and i haven't started the breeding yet. i ju...
    Ok so basically ive "finished" the enemy natures / iv's and levels script (all in one script) and its an add-on for actor natures iv and ev's. It basically allows you to notetag map noteboxes with and you replace min and max with the min and max level on monster to encounter on that map. whats peoples opinons on the way that this works ? would people preffer that it was based against party level ? its obviously a pokemon script , which is why ive writte...

    maybe a script call like this, fixed_encounter(true, LEVEL) that then makes the next encountered troops level fixed to whatever LEVEL is ?


    i could easily set up two variables, one for a boolean and one for a round number (e.g 5)


    and then i could maybe add a simlar script call to fix the enemies nature and iv's which would also help for bosses, as a real boss wouldnt have low stats (due to low iv and fail nature)

    Yeah, something like that could be fairly easy. It's just one extra thing to put in the event so I see no reason why not to do that. Probably easier than tagging events (which really could have used noteboxes....)

Nightmare... Dreamt I posted a GFX resource post. With a work in progress glove icon that tinted to different colors. In the wrong forum. And I was in such a panic. I saw people writing posts in response, those "..." you see in discord and such.
