  • I'm actively looking for people who want to recreate classical compositions in the public domain for RPG Maker games. I've got a whole kick going on of looking for several resources from anyone which would be sharable amongst commercial games. This latest pursuit is something I'm surprised no one else has started doing.
So far, I've rated 5 of the games out of the 120 submitted. Competition is fierce! There are a few which I played and thought "Well, at least my submission is better than this one." but there's at least one which is far better than mine (at least by my judgement.) Trying very hard to rate games fairly and only comment when I have something constructive to say. Good luck everyone!
I'm VERY careful about what I say and how I say it. As a result of this, one of the easiest ways to get under my skin is to misrepresent my words because you couldn't be bothered to read them. If you read what I say and I'm wrong, explain it. I'm very self reflective and will admit it if you're right, or explain it if I believe you're wrong.

By my count you managed to annoy 7 ppl in 2 threads over the course of 1 night... As much as you claim to be careful with words and other ppl get under your skin perhaps a little more selfreflection wouldnt hurt... Just a friendly bit of advice.

Seven? I've argued with 2 people (3 if you consider one post at TheFireLion). One of those people I apologized to(I was wrong and admitted it when shown), the other was completely in the wrong with the way he's been acting from the start of this. Where'd the other 4 or 5 come from?
So... It's becoming clear that if I want to be able to make the game I want, I'm going to have to do two things: Start doing some editing of characters at least to my ability to do them, and start putting aside money to hire real artists to do the rest.

I do suggest you either just use placeholder graphics until those parts of your game are done and definitely not going to be scrapped though, as getting your graphics up front could end up costing you a lot of time and/or money if they end up not being used in your game (ask me how I know).

Oh Yeah. On the plus side, many of the resources I'll be requesting soon will be reusable. I can use edits of existing work for character portraits for now, but before I consider it to be "complete," I'll need custom portraits for each main character. This is something I'll be happy to pay for since I'll get a lot of bang for my buck.
Working on two game ideas. One is a parody political game that I'm just going to have fun with because I can be silly making fun of politicians and stuff. The other, which I'm planning on devoting a good bit of time to, is a detective thriller with a strong emphasis on problem solving instead of the typical "run around and kill things" of most RPGMaker games!

A detective game huh? Great minds think alike i guess xD

It's something I've thought about for a long while. I want to really change up the way the game is played. Everyone has dungeons and random battles, I want mine to be based on interactions and investigation! I even have plans to completely overhaul the battle system so that battles are far more complex when they do happen.
I'm finished! I published my first game and submitted it to a contest! I feel super accomplished right now! I'm ready to start my next project now!
Oh man... There are 311 entries into the Game Jam so far. Suddenly I'm not feeling so confident about my chances! I feel that I've done the best I could, but there's so much that's not perfect and I know that I fall short of others when it comes to things like custom art and any sort of code! I'm a big ol' ball of nerves!
    Finnuval

Guess what tho? All 311 entrants feel that way xD
It is confirmed through my first playthrough that the game is a little too long. I'm about half way through and at the 40 minute mark, and that is with me knowing how to solve all the puzzles going in. It's to late to start over or cut the game down. It is what it is. I just hope that the first hour is good enough to make them happy. It's too bad. There are three endings that won't get judged!
Other thank making a quick end credit movie, the game is fully and truly complete! There are three possible endings based on decisions made in the game. They are simple to unlock (as expected from an hour of gameplay), but I'm still proud of myself!

I have to say, the sheer number of rules on this site can be a bit overwhelming. I get things like keeping everything civil, but sometimes the rules that are put up seem to be there just to be there. This seems like one of those cases. I can't imagine how me posting more than two status updates causes a problem on this site.

It has the same reason why you can't bump your thread every five minutes, namely it pushes down other users' statuses/threads if you do that.

Ohh man, i've prolly broken that rule so many times xD
I'm "finished!" Which is to say, I'm sending it to my playtester. That's right, I only got one of my friends to agree to it. Of course, that friend troubleshoots tech for a living, so I have high hopes in his expertise! Opening video updated to now include the few credits I needed to list (There's actually very little that I couldn't get from the RTP).

I should acquire some of these ''friends'' you speak of, they seem useful :p

Play D&D my friend! You'll make friends. And if you're worried you're to weird for them, you're in luck. D&D tends to be a place for weirdos like us to congregate!
It's really sad when you wanna do something with your game and you can't, especially when it SEEMS so simple! Oh well. It won't hurt the game in the end, but one thing this gamejam is teaching me is how much work some of the simplest things are!

Which what? Which game? I'm referring to my game for the Touch The Stars GameJam. I've had a few times that I've come to ask for help on here. Sometimes the answer, however, is a process I don't understand well enough to properly implement in spite of lots of help from the awesome people here. Sometimes it's simply not possible without advanced scripting knowledge.

I was wondering what specifically doesn't work.

The thing that stands out the most is a scripted battle I had planned. Apparently it's possible with certain plugins, but I didn't have time to try to learn a new plugin battle engine in order to make one fight work the way I wanted.
"I'm almost done!" I said. "Just a few events to put down" I said! Then I do my own little playthrough and find that the very first boss kills the entire party with a hit. I tweak her to be a little weaker! She still kills the entire party with a single hit because when party members level up, they don't gain their newly acquired HP until after they heal! **So much to fix!**
Description of the item "Starblade" from my game:

"A sword made from a piece of Star! It's super light... get it? Super li- Oh never mind!"

Oh, the things that make me happy...

check out TF2's wiki for really wacky item descriptions.

What if it was actually called Starlight, you'd assume the name is related to shiny stuff but its actually just because its made from a star and is light, a literal name xD
    Aslanemperor

From a book titled "Why Call Them Stars" on one of the shelves:
"Rather, they seem to be some sort of glowing crystal. Why then, does the church insist that they are 'Stars.'"
"The 'Stars' housed in the temples both draw limited power from Starlight, and reinforce the reactions of those stars, causing them to 'live' longer."
So... I made this game figuring it'd be a throw away game simply for the gamejam... I may have to make at least one more though. I've done too much world building, and there's a lot of lore that I had to come up with that asks some REALLY interesting questions about the past and overall universe the Star Temples exist in!

Are they related to Star Chambers?
    Aslanemperor
    Aslanemperor
I don't know that one. I just couldn't help myself and started expanding the world a bit with the use of some of the books that players can read on the shelves, and some of the conversation hints of the "Church" as a much larger organization than is really depicted in the game.
Crap... Just realized that after spending a bunch of time submitting a project recruitment request, I forgot to include a note about possible adult themes in the game! Of things to forget, that would be one that I would figure could get it declined and I don't feel like typing all that up again. Sadly, now there's no way for me to find the post to do the minor edit because it's under review!
I'd say I'm about 90% done now. Basically, I'm working on dialogue and cut scenes. I'm hoping that by tomorrow I can send copies to my friends for playtesting!

See Im taking tomorrow off so you'll be at the same point as me quick enough, no need to be a little jealous xD

I'm only jealous because I'm lazy, and I know I have more work to do, but you're done. Congrats on finishing early, though! I'm actually surprised things went this quickly. The last couple of dungeons went super fast because they were much easier to make than the others.
Oh goddess! The fourth dungeon was SO easy to make! After all the tinkering and fooling around I had to do for the others, making a simple jump maze seems like childs play! 80% done! I think I'm going to make it! I have to design the last dungeon, but that one should be the easiest of all of them. After that, I'll just be working on tidying up dialogue and story arc, which I could do in my sleep!
60% done! YAY! Thanks to Shaz for an easy solution to making my puzzle (He helped reduce an hours work to a couple of minutes!) Shaz, you're a BAMF, and I thank you!
So, in my normal life I'm often told that I'm not willing to admit when I'm wrong. This is kinda true. I rarely concede when I think I'm right. For those who TRULY know me, they know it's extremely difficult to get me to concede, but not impossible. I'm well informed (usually) and I don't decide that I'm right lightly. When I'm wrong, though, I admit it. Wanna change my mind? Prove me wrong.

You're not. This wasn't an invitation on a specific subject, just me posting a little something about my personality. This only became a longer discussion because of Finnuval's assertion that there's no objective truth (I'm paraphrasing, obviously.) It ended up being a discussion about Science and Philosophy, two terms which should never be placed in the same discussion, really.
Had a scare for a minute. Found a bunch of amazing battlers, and while they are free to use, I couldn't remember the artist name to attribute them and I hadn't saved the details! Luckily, I remember that part of the artists attribution required an emailed request, so I finally tracked him down through that request! YAY! Better resources FTW!!!!

I just saw someone's post that had an instagram link. I have yet to be able to open that site up once, ever, or have an embed of it work (it just straight up won't show either of them). And I haven't really found a reason to try to fix the problem, either XD
I want to go play piano now. This is gonna be my stopping point today (yes, I’m very slow at drafting). Might have a few too many curly Qs? Obviously gotta finish the limbs and clean up. There are a few more outfit details I need to add. Probably going to do a background so that the pose makes sense, LOL.

Do you believe me now?

BTW not my insta, not my post. Different John.
It's been long time since last I'm tinkering with RPG Maker ~
