  • Wish me luck guys! I'm tying to make ChatGPT bend to my will to make a script for Ace that mimics the random vendors in the Fallout games (I haven't found a script for this that works how I want it to), even though I don't know much about scripting. So far it seems to be duct-taping together, but there is a hell of a lot of classes and methods I'm having to define (it's nearly gibberish to me lol).

you'll cut 50% of the work if you conceptualize "the random vendors of Fallout" into one sentence that mostly explains the mechanics.
GPT tends to try to solve whatever prompt you give it, without backlog context, so yeah, it's gonna be a lot of ductaping.

@gstv87 So if I come up with a good enough sentence describing the mechanics, then I won't have to do all the defining?
    gstv87

@cthulhusquid no, what you won't have to do is *adding definitions that were missing from blocks of code interpreted without context* because the whole code would be IN scope and IN environment.
you'd still be defining what needs to be defined, except the AI will consider it better.
I really, really, REALLY hate it when I'm trying to make an event work but I keep screwing it up and somehow mess up the conditional branches and can't figure out the proper order!:kaolivid:

I always go back to pseudocode and flowcharts. Get things clear on paper, and they're much easier to put into an event. In your case, flowcharts are probably a good option.

There are 3 different outcomes, and I FINALLY figured it out after like 4 hours... The alcohol probably didn't help (but to be fair, it was good. A Westland single cask 104.2 proof whiskey and Balcones True Blue 100 proof whiskey)
I'm finally getting some progress done on my games again after months of nothing!

@HexMozart88 Battle Castle is currently on hold right now while I am getting a demo out for the Cube Trail and putting in some good work on the Wastes. Don't worry though, as soon as the Cube Trail demo is out I'll put that on hold and switch back to Battle Castle.
Also, did you ever try the revamped demo that's out right now?

There's another revamped demo? I don't think I saw that.

It's the same one that's been out for some time, I just saw that you did a stream but I don't remember it at all. I did fix a good amount of stuff since you last played it, though.
I've done some more gun icons, super proud of the CZ75!

These last 2 weeks have been so busy at my job... Kinda getting some burnout. I just hope I recover over the weekend since last weekend wasn't enough. :kaosigh:
Well this New Year's sucks... My brother was fine earlier today, now he's sick with something.

No idea, most likely the flu. He tested negative for covid.
Here's some videos I took at the Sabaton concert in Seattle 2 days ago! The audio's a bit weird at times, but what can you do.

I finally took after someone I know and have started making my own firearm sprites for my post apocalyptic game! These are all actual homemade guns that were confiscated in Brazil or another country.

Can anyone guess what game this dialogue system is from? (like an actual game, not the screenshot)

The color and font are definitely from Fallout 3, but the dialog system itself is inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. In there you can ask almost any NPC if they're heard anything interesting, about specific locations, or trade with them. Good guesses all!

    Never would've guessed S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
I just got all of my wisdom teeth out today, thankfully I have the rest of the week off.

not sure -4 Wisdom is a viable stat change, as times go.

@gstv87 You've got it wrong. They're called wisdom teeth, because when you pull them out, you'll unlock the power they had been sealing.
After months and many changes, my revamped demo for Battle Castle is finally out Check it out in the Games in Development forum!
I've decided that I'm going to release an "early look" demo for Battle Castle that'll show off the new direction the game is going in. Now, I don't have a release date yet, but it'll be soon, I promise.
It'll have a lot less content than the current demo that's out right now, but will include totally new maps, a new combat system/new skills, new writing, new windowskin, and a bunch of tweaks.
After looking at some old projects last night, I realized I've technically been working on Battle Castle for over a thousand years 12 years... That's starting in VX, and going through many iterations in Ace. Maybe I'll finish it in another 10 years. :kaoswt::kaodes:

I have gone through something similar with my characters where I repurpose them. Although I have only made one story/world that truly made me think, "I need to revisit this eventually."

In all seriousness though, when I've worked on it recently I have made good progress. I am trying to get a demo out for one of my other projects first, but I can release an "early look" version of my revamped Battle Castle demo if no one cares about less content.
I have discovered the ultimate method of actually getting work done on your game: Make a to-do list with only a few, small things on it that you can do each day, and schedule it for a whole week. Things like "make this npc's dialogue", "make these items", or "fix these couple bugs". It actually works!
    cthulhusquid

But have you tried making them smaller? Seriously.
I have HUGE to-do lists and this helps with decision paralysis.

I'm one of those people that can't do one thing for too long so I'm all over the place so I can work on many things all in one go but so little of each gets done that it feels like nothing got done.

I can see how your method would help many people though because sometimes when one is overwhelmed with too many details it turns them off to doing anything at all.

After a few days of feeling like garbage from Covid, I feel like I might be getting better. Throat hurts less, a bit more energy, less congestion. I still don't think I'm going to make it back to work this week at all, though.
