  • Progress update:
Blizzards occur throughout winter (and always on day 1 of winter) that rapidly sap your energy while you're outside.
You cannot till dirt or dig holes during winter.
Holes and irrigation ditches despawn when it's winter.
Holes stay filled with water after it stops raining and water crops around them during this time. (They do not yet dry up)
    Todo:
Holes will stay filled with water for a day after it stops raining and water crops around them during this time.
Spigots that can be placed in holes to create irrigation ditches which water crops around them every single day.
Spigots will be removable with a hammer.
Remove the ability to till dirt or dig holes during winter.
Make holes and irrigation ditches be destroyed when it becomes winter.
    Add blizzards.

@mlogan I've been using my status updates since my posts are more rapid and that thread appears to be aimed for yearly/monthly updates.
    Progress update:
Made day advancement more efficient by having each possible method run a common event. This will make tweaks faster to implement.
    Fixed a few bugs.
Added pebbles that spawn randomly overnight on dirt that must be removed with a shovel.
Added holes that can be dug on dirt with the shovel.
Holes fill with water if it's raining and dry up if it isn't.
Using a shovel on a hole removes it.

Since I was struggling to gain any motivation to finish it, I've decided to save what's left of the previous todo list for later.
    New todo:
-Add pebbles that spawn overnight and must be removed with the shovel
-Make it so the shovel can dig holes on empty dirt
-Add craftable spigots that can be inserted into holes to create irrigation ditches
-Make irrigation ditches water nearby plants
    Progress update:
Fixed a bug that caused deleted events to respawn when leaving and returning to the map.
A variety of tall grasses and harvestable flowers spawn randomly on grassy terrain overnight. They can be cleared with the scythe.
Vote where you think the player should be able to till dirt:
    -Only on dirt
-Only on dirt or short grass
-Anywhere that isn't blocked from the player stepping (including tall grass or rocks)

    Ahuramazda
If you have a method of allowing the player to replant short or tall grass I would say anywhere, if not... then only on Dirt.

I am excessively OCD when I play sandbox games or stuff like Rune Factory, Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley and HAVE to make nice neat paths and I love it when the game allows me to actually replant grass in locations where it would look better.

I'd say anywhere as well, if the tiles with rocks and grass can be cleared somehow first.

I've decided you will be able to till on dirt and short grass with tall grass and rocks being clearable, but irrigation ditches and holes can only be made on dirt. Thank you all for your input!
I failed to finish last week's todo list and it's already Wednesday this week. Really feeling low over my recent progress. I only have one day off this week too.

    Any progress is good progress!
And if you haven't been able to make progress, but have the time, maybe you need to take time to take care of yourself as well. :kaopride:

Thank you both for your kind words and encouragement. I guess I could turn my todo lists into methods of keeping track what I'm planning next, rather than deadlines to pressure myself.
Normally I stalk status updates watching for people's inspirational updates on their own projects to motivate me on mine but it's frustrating how little game development is being discussed lately and downright demotivating. To those who might feel sad because their progress updates don't get much attention, I want you to know I have probably seen them, and they have probably helped inspire me even if I don't comment.
Completed my todo list...sort of. I did one map but I'm going to have to redo it because of the issues I mentioned in my last status update. The crops, seeds, and ingredients have been added but they're just placeholders and most of the actual traits/uses will be added later. I got bumped up to full time so I've been exhausted.
I was going to do my maps so it feels like you're only ever on one giant map throughout the game by nofade + overlapping borders, but I realized there's a lot of incompatibilities. Stutters, hud flickering, tilled plots suddenly dis/appearing, etc. Should I go with the old fashioned method of obviously separate maps? The seamless map transfers plugin won't work because I'm going to use parallax mapping eventually.
New todo list for this week: (graphics not included)
-Begin making traversable maps for the locations in-game.
-Create 5 crops for the item list
-Create 5 seeds for the item list (of the respective crops)
-Create 3 non-crop ingredients for the item list

Are you going to use real plants, or made-up ones? If the former, you might get some ideas from books or articles on ethnobotany. Wikipedia has some lists of medicinal plants by region and culture you could look at.

    @HOLYMOTHER

I'm not quite sure yet. If I do made up plants I would want to also do made up metals/gemstones, but I found making those up to be a lot harder than making plants up. The world the game takes place in isn't human so it would make sense not to use human names for plants.
I won't be doing anything for my game for a week. Today my husband and I pack for our vacation. My workplace had done a Christmas raffle and I won a 2 night stay at a super expensive resort in the Florida keys so we're taking a roadtrip down and back.
The reptilian tribe will have an early-game advantage with materials/building while the avian tribe will have an early-game advantage with cooking recipes. I'm not sure what the mammalian tribe will have an advantage with yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated! (Think Harvest Moon style game.)
This is one of three possible players, a reptilian male. Art is not final, just low effort concept.

I love the patterns on his skin! Hmmm ... thinking of Harvest Moon, what about mining or livestock raising? Or herbs/medical?

    @PixelatedBree

The reptilian tribe are already tied to mining since that's how they get their good materials, and I was planning on medical recipes being basically the same mechanically as the other recipes. I like the livestock idea though, I'll see if I can think of some specific perks!
Each of the three possible player characters have existing relationships and backstories that may influence your play early on. However long-term play will be mostly unaffected, so it's not a huge deal whoever you pick.

I was thinking the avians need the most clothing since they struggle with building proper homes and their feathers aren't good insulation. Meanwhile the mammals have plenty of fur to help with warmth. The reptiles will actually live in caves and don't really go out in winter so they aren't as warmly dressed either.

Haha. :p Well, the way the images are shown, it just shows the crotch, even though you posted the whole body. :p So the way the forum handles images, it kinda looks like you just post a cut-out focussed on the crotch :p I thought that was funny.
There are three tribes: the avian tribe, the mammalian tribe, and the reptilian tribe. At the beginning of the game, three members come to fight only to be stopped by the last remaining light in the forest, Eternity. It declares the land they're on a holy place. You choose who you will play as, determining perks. This is one of three possible players, a young avian male. Art is not final, just low effort concept.

Having trouble with the movement/resolution I want for my game. While I wait for someone who knows what they're doing to help, I've been working on concept art and planning out the world map. Also got some ideas for animals since I want to use original species rather than actual animals.
Next few weeks are likely going to be very busy for me between my job schedule and a Valentines vacation I've been planning with my husband.
No particular deadline for this todo list, it's just to remember what I want to work on next.
-Action indicators to show what tool is needed to be used on something
-Test the compatibility of 4 specific movement plugins
    -Look into Galv's fishing plugin

Proper localization into several languages on a commercial rpg project might be one of the best signs that the developer is super invested into making the game something high effort, because it ain't cheap to hire good translators.
