  • With my project, I want the player to have access to all the tools they need to get from New Game to Credits as soon as possible; I want the player's progress to only be impeded by the player not knowing how to use the tools the game provides.

@ImaginaryVillain Good call. I almost commented before remembering the last time I responded to what started as a discussion on game design with this person it ended in them literally accusing me of terrorism (among other things)...somehow. Seems their posts are just minefields for all, I mean you get chewed up for essentially offering words of encouragement. :guffaw:

Well, rats. Was really looking forward to trying out FPS Creator, but trying to install and set it up was pretty much impossible for my tiny brain to comprehend. So much for that, then.

Know the feel, there's a reason why I use RPG maker to begin with :p Everything can be learned ofc, if we only bother to :p

I have a working theory, if I'm going to learn any other game creation software... I'm not going to waste time with another specialized limited one. I'll just learn either Unity or Unreal and be done with it. Probably Unity since it's better with 2D, though Unreal comes with an insane amount of free assets.
i want to make videogame, though i am burned out on games with RPG elements, but the only gamedev tool i know how to use is rpg maker. :/

Oh, there's also SMILE Game Builder on Steam, which lets you make fully 3D RPGs in either top down or first person perspectives; works almost like RPG Maker, but with a few less options. There's also a dedicated tactical RPG game maker on Steam (lets you make Fire Emblem like games) which I think is called SRPG Studio.

Obviously a game created with RPG Maker does not necessarily have to have RPG elements, others have already given you options: but if you want something other than that, you could try creating an arcade game.

"this looks like a neat plugin--" *requires Yanfly* "nevermind."
Ah, I stand corrected; Naughty Dog didn't kill off Ellie. That part of the leak was wrong.
"Oh, hooray! In a lifetime of evil, at least Naughty Dog didn't add Bury Your Gays to the list."

Still not touching that game with a sixty-foot pole, though.

I honestly don't understand why so many people are so emotionally worked up. Yeah, it sucks, I really liked the first game, and the leaks (well, spoilers now I guess) show me explicitly that the game wasn't for me and so I have no interest in it. It's as if it didn't exist, I'm not buying it, and I'm not patronizing ND period for their blatant abuses of copyright law and the like. That's all you can do.

Give them your ire and you gain nothing, and honestly, considering the overtones of TLOU2's story I believe that our ire was what the developers (at least the main ones, obviously not the ones who quit in protest or spoke up and got fired or whatever) wanted in the first place. Thematically, it is a nihilistic rant designed to make you feel bad about feeling anything but bad. It bludgeons you with it.

@Philosophus Vagus Oh, I'm not mad-- not mad at the game itself, anyway (ND mistreating the devs, however, yeah no, they're getting my ire for that, whether they want it or not). tbh I feel smug satisfaction that the game's getting panned, exclusively because I'm tired of "grimdark" in general.
What's that? The edgy grimdark zombie apocalypse game made by a company that crunches its workers isn't any good?

tbh y'all shoulda bought resident evil instead.

Cut off some of her fingers and used flimsy reasoning to make her act out of character. The zombies don't even play a major role in the game anymore, they're just a bit of nuisance. I didn't love the first game like some did, but I did enjoy the opening sequence where you got to play through the start of the apocalypse.

How did they bury the lgb character exactly? Pretty sure the first trailer was mostly focused on Ellie and her girlfriend kissing wasn't it?

Or was the speculation that people had about a certain character which Naughty dog specifically denied wasn't quite so speculative after all?
Posting this as a status because it's just a passing idea that wouldn't work with the current project I'm working on: turn-based RPG where the first half is making four characters-- picking their classes, customizing their name/appearance, and getting them to max level individually in some kind of open world, and the second half is you having all four members joining together to take on several dungeons.
Wish there was a way to set up VX Ace/MV so that every time I start a new project, the specific things that I do with EVERY single new project I start (examples: remove escape's RNG chance to fail, remove surprise/preemptive, remove how Luck stat messes with the application of states instead of just the bandaid solution of setting everyone's luck to 1, etc.) is just done automatically upon the project's creation.

I do what Avery suggests. Or make a copy of your old project, clean out the extra stuff and then you got your changes already too.

For the MV you can go to the root folder and change on the standard scripts/plugins 'n data json. For the Ace you can create a default project with the setup, then copy every rvdata2 to the root folder

    Those solutions are... acceptable tbh
I'm very lucky that the test project I'm working on for MV takes place in a dreamland that's seperate from the rest of the continuity of my "series," because these default enemy sprites do not fit AT ALL with the general aesthetic I typically go for.

@Black Pagan "tHaT's JuSt A lAmE eXcUsE" What do you want me to do? Rip the assets out of VX Ace and put them in the MV project?

It wasn't an excuse; it was a complaint. Big difference there, buddy.
After "careful" consideration, I bought MV on steam since it's on sale. Let the cycle of "inspiration -> obsession -> burnout -> banish the poor project to the fiery depths of purgatory" begin anew!

Good on you! I'm currently in the 'sabotage' phase of working on a project, just about to pit stop for a little post-project-depression and then, finally, back to inspiration. It's nice to have structure ^^

Which means that hacks like using full screen sized pictures with transparent space is a no-no. Keep everything by the power of 2 or divisible by 2, so graphics cards won't freak out and make your images blurry and so forth. Also, stick with the latest version. Most should work on 1.6.1 and 1.6.2

4/5 random strangers I asked on the Internet agreed MV is a better source of fiber than VX Ace. So clearly you should get it. :LZSwink:

The default one hurts my eyes., both it and it's recolor are also a bit weird to use.. Thankfully RMW-Lighttheme is basically the secret savior, far and away the best of the three. Though it would be fantastic if RMW-Darktheme existed.

I use the dark theme, but am not impressed any more by the other ones. Not to mention, at night, which is my usual time during a night shift, light themes hurt my eyes, so I use dark themes almost exclusively.

And yes, I'm doing more.
I'm thinking of devouring some tutorials for RPG Maker MV. Just all kinds: mapping, spriting, programming, ect. the whole works! :)

Maybe videos, my brother and I can sit down and watch them during one of our weekly business meetings.
