  • It has been some time since I last posted here.

I wish I could say I've made gains in my projects, but a lot has happened in my life over the past year. I'm admittedly left burnt out and, although the want is there, even the simplest RM dev'ing has been a struggle.

Maybe it is still too soon for me to jump back into dev work. Otherwise, I hope the community has been well.

People hang out here all the time, too. You don’t have to be “ready” to at least join the conversation. Who knows, it could spark motivation. :)

@Hidden Alchemist I know how you feel. The My Little Pony game I'm designing has 40 different missions for you to do, and I've only made it to mission 23. I'm a little more than halfway done, but still have only completed about half the game and still have a long way to go (yes I'm a brony I admit it; make fun of me if you want; I just won't care).
Been taking a break from my project's mechanical side of things to work more on its narrative and characters, something which I've admittedly found difficult. Things are going a bit more smoothly and steadily now.

I look forward to the day when I can even show off any of this.
Despite having worked for months, I have very little to show of my project aside from its debug map. Still chipping away at the mechanics first-and-foremost day by day.Screenshot.png
Admittedly, yes I am bothered by the amount of vitriol over a really simple, but meaningful, checkbox request. The lack of empathy can be sadly stunning. But I guess the silver lining to all this discourse is that it lets me plainly see who is and who isn't against non-binary genders. And honestly, I would much rather not engage or work with anyone who sees me as less-than just because of how I perceive myself.

I don't know, in my opinion, we've all got our burdens to bear. We're all equally heard and unheard. Some people have harder lives than others, and some have it easier. The world is unfair and always will be. Not all problems are equal. I just personally find it a bit sad that people exist that reduce themselves to their own most basic stereotypes just for the sake of a personal identity.

@Tai_MT and what is gender, if not a chosen label of personality based on the person's subjective determination of where that individual exists on the spectrum and continuum? Gender is a component of personality, and personality a component of gender.

@Sirius270 Actually, nevermind. My personal opinion on the subject really isn't going to help anyone. So, feel free to have this deleted.
Yes, I am non-binary. We exist. We play classic RPGs and make games inspired them. Our gender experiences may be different from the expected norm, but we're otherwise no different from everyone else. We've always been around and will continue to be around.

And if you don't like that, well, I guess I'll just click on your Ignore button then.
Sometimes I do get really tired building things around plugins in mind or having to search for plugins to get around an editor limitation. It's enough to just make me want to go to 2k3 and embrace all its limitations, and honestly, I've been considering doing just that.

Give it a try, make a small game and see if you like it better!

@Sword_of_Dusk You cannot use plugins or script calls whatsoever in 2k3, that's the limitation. You're limited solely to what the engine can do with the database and eventing.

I know about the plugin thing, but didn't know it had no script calls. I guess that's one thing you always have with newer makers. I guess if you wanna truly have all possible limitations, you gotta go older. If you decide to do it, I hope it proves an enjoyable challenge.
I'm of mind that I really do not like these recent game studio acquisitions. Everything is becoming so consolidated and anti-consumer as a result.
I consider myself more of an event scripter than I am a JS programmer (though I am still learning a bit of that), yet I think I've been growing too comfortable with plugins in the newer RMs lately.

Someday I would like to return to RM 2003 and make something with its limitations. Perhaps after I've finished my other projects.
Against my better judgment, I did went ahead and purchase MZ during the winter sale.

I guess I'd better make something in it to justify the purchase then, huh.
MZ frequently goes on sale I've noticed. Almost every month now, or so it seems to me. This is a good thing as I've been putting off MZ until it becomes more affordable in my currency.

Just a bummer that, as my luck would have it, it tends to go on sale right when I've already spent too much lol.

Any particular reason why you want it over whatever you're using right now?

More for its improvements and better performance than anything really. But I'm also aware that those are few and far in-between for MZ. I wouldn't get it unless it has been significantly discounted. But it's still new so that isn't until a ways yet.
The single greatest skill that any game developer can have is learning to make compromises when necessary, and I am happy to say that after looking into some alternatives and giving my game's initial setup a lot of thought, I have made an important compromise that is functional.

I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulder now. I can now move forward.

The most important part of this skill is making compromises in order to meet deadlines so your game can be finished.

That is very true too. Developing without a deadline makes for a very relaxed environment, but it's possible to get too relaxed.
Mega has been giving me a lot of problems as of late, so I think I'll need to switch to another cloud service. I'm considering Dropbox.
Being a visual learner and having a learning disability, I do struggle at times with javascript and more complicated plugins. I often have to learn my way around them through repeated trial and error, and compile personal help documents so I won't forget.

It takes me far longer to 'dev' things, but I feel more accomplished when I do figure out things and achieve my goals.

same issue being a tactile learner. trial and error only works when can figure out what part is wrong. help documents dont help me, its like looking at a wall of graffiti.
need to be guided step by step to do it correctly couple times. then try it on my own couple times with 2nd hand confirmation did it correctly.
then do it confidently few times. after that ill never forget, even after 20 years of never doing it.

unfortunately my memory is about packed now. want me to remember all the secrets in donkey kong country or useless lore from a 10-30 year old game i loved? no problem.
want me to remember a name or phone number i wrote down 10seconds ago? not a F'n chance. lol
everything takes alot of repetition for me to remember now unless i can make a direct mental connection to something else ive memorized.
Just now realized that in all the time I was fighting with the passive TP state, Yanfly already had one made in one of his tips and tricks videos.

    Live and learn I guess.
It does sometimes get a little embarrassing that I often come here to ask for help with something and seldom have anything to actually show for it. If there is one thing though I can commend myself for, it's for sticking with an idea I've been tinkering with for this long now and gradually making headways. Even though I've been reserved about my progress, I can say I'm farther now than where I initially started.

I've always found Game Over screens to be a bit boring. Mostly because I see them too often.
Tried to mix it up for the jam.
