  • the power of KORG M1 is now mine muahahaha *plays with presets for hours*
The worst part of liking an unpopular JRPG is having people complain at you about how they don't like it the moment you bring it up in passing or just say that you like the game

Chrono Cross and FFXIII are some of my favorites lol hehe haha:kaoangry:

    Never heard of it
This one definitely went under my radar...
...I'm way too much of a freaking weeb for a game like that lol XD

Just start off caveating all your statements with the ending phrase..."and I don't care what you think." That seems to have an interesting effect on the conversation. Just kidding. Not kidding.

@LionessPaladin The devs themselves called it an "Elder Scrolls Oblivion killer" (or was it a game magazine? idk) and it was laughably, absolutely not. Horrendous voice acting, terrible janky animations and gameplay, totally unbalanced, but the alchemy and gear upgrade systems were extremely innovative.

I mainly play Western RPGS, not JRPGs. My extent of JRPGness is 2 hours of FFVII.
currently just obsessed with the sprite animation quality in Garou: Mark of the Wolves

SNK's workflow for crating those sprites is ridiculous. It's so impressive.

yeah the work is impressive but I wouldn't have wanted to work there lol
the crunch time stories of working on KoF games sound like a nightmare

the fact that Fatal Fury 1 and Garou are on the same hardware is pretty crazy. Neo Geo was probably being pushed to the limit with Garou... and OOF those KoF turnarounds were brutal trying to get them out every year.
I've learned more about East Asian cuisine from researching recipes for my cooking mechanic than Culinary School ever taught me lmao

Yeah just a cheap no name community college one but still a culinary school nonetheless
Cooking doesn't pay worth a lick so I left it but it's still a pretty nice skill to have lol
(Working back of house in an established restaurant is also one of the most stressful things ever)

I took a culinary arts class in high school and the most exotic thing we made was chicken alfredo. I felt like the class was more of an excuse to force more boring food production documentaries rather than actually teaching people who are about to reach adulthood how to cook healthy food for themselves. I've learned more just by working as a dishwasher for a restaurant and Googling recipes for food I want to try.

In high school its a little more home ec and learning basics, but in college it's more science and culture driven education that feels almost like propaganda at times

it's highly Eurocentric and focused on French technique (I don't like French food lol)

I wanted to learn more about hispanic foods but it's almost looked down upon in culinary school it seems @GabeTheHalfling
man I'm glad the ignore button exists cause I have a game to make and I do not come to forums for drama...

    ...that's what Twitter is for:cool:
I make the nitpicky distinction that the characters in my world/game are not actually animals, but beastfolk
I mainly just do this because beastfolk that are designed after irl herbivore animals still eat meat lol

and it's really annoying to get comments saying the herbivore animals shouldn't eat meat
    I really do not care
Initially didn't care for Star Ocean 6 (The Divine Force, played the Demo and got it on PS4) but it's on sale on Steam now so I'm gonna give it another shot and see if I like it
Slow day today at work had a meme to share with one of my characters since this
fits her personality so well lol

Janet MacTaggart is Captain of the pirate crew you join at the start of the game.
She's always got a plan and has the confidence to pull through any hardship.
She values money over all else but her compassionate side comes out to play hero
    every now and then.

As an artist, I normally I hate buying and using art assets I didn't create myself since I want my game to have its own sense of identity that came from me...

but screw effekseer I hate this program lmao

I suppose I could... I've also got like every character/event and sv battler to traditionally animate as well lol
using GALV animation frames so I can use more frames on the character sheets as well

I like the 2D with 3D effects look since I'm going for a Sega Saturn look, effekseer is just kinda annoying tbh

Just draw the animations too. The dude of Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass did that and they look fitting with the theme of the game.

I'm an artist too and I share the sentiment, I buy resource packs just to support, I prefer to draw my own stuff or else the game won't match my vision.

Me: "It's my project off-day this week so I should probably just relax since I'm tired after work... let's watch some anime"

Me later tonight: "Anyways lets open RPG maker:kaoswt:"

Forcing myself to relax and rest is the hardest superboss of life
Equip Battle Skills/Abilities is an integral mechanic of the battle system. When you have a combat system as loose and free to be exploited as the player's skills will allow them to, you have to set some boundaries to make sure your entire bestiary isn't a total pushover...

Also: add a way to make enemies become harder as an option so absurd builds will most likely be needed to even survive on said difficulty level.

I use a single point scaler where the player starts at difficulty 100, for each point above that enemies become 5% tougher per point. At the current time it caps at +100 because even a end-game character can be slaughtered by some of the starting enemies.

Yeah for context this is in playtest mode with all slot and skill type restrictions removed and all skills learned at your disposal lol
Balancing is part of it but like you said, adding a layer of customization allows players to think of creative ways of building OP party's and I am all about those kinda games (star ocean, valkyrie profile, xenoblade)

and due to how combat is structured you cannot really scale the difficulty of an encounter entirely on stats either since both the party and the enemy have multiple actions they can take per turn that can be extended depending on status effects and resources spent/earned
every encounter is scaled to player strength and capabilities given their stats and movepool and how the enemy can use that against them
Work In Progress Sketch of Mizuko's New Menu Status
simplified the hair a bit for spriting and animation purposes (the theme of me learning my lesson and designing characters for video games lol)

She is a snow leopard and she does not take her mask off in public.

    You know what
    99999 damage cap removed
let powerful abilities reach their potential
    go crazy
I want those huge 6 digit attacks to blow up your enemies lol
Made a simple crafting/cooking system completely with a common event and I'm so proud of myself:kaopride:

each character specifies in certain recipes with a small group of ingredients
so for cooking I've got 6 base ingredients that can be combined in groups of 2
15 combos per character, 4 characters, so 60 unique meals can be cooked

Using Select Item and Conditional Branches to give an item under the criteria of those stored variables
then removing the ingredients used in the recipe and resetting the variable to zero

I'll have to whip out my TexMex and CaliMex cook books for all my Pollos needs lol

Restaurants with have food you can't cook and provides powerful buffs for the party (expensive)
while Cooking will have specific recipes according to who cooks it and those meals only target one person (cheap)

    Oooof. That's a great balance.
My party can buy the same food they can cook. Pulling out a masterchef here.

Yeah I wanted flavor profiles and different specified foods for each of the 4 playable characters since they all have different preferences/specializations and cultural backgrounds in the world
Adds depth to their character and world development too

Update: Coworker sabotaged the truck's mirrors by applying a threadlocking compound to the bolts used to adjust the mirrors. Now NO ONE can adjust them. So I filed a legit report of sabotage of equipment to leadership and declared that I cannot safely operate the vehicle if I can't see what needs to be seen. So the truck has to go to the shop for repair, and we need a substitute vehicle. Nice work, dude :p
