  • Hi I'm still alive :) just kinda vanished for a few months due to life and work and ya know the drill. Untold Story is still happening I don't have anything new to share because I haven't done anything in the past couple months, but soon™. I'll probably vanish again because the game is super mega ultra backloaded with content and that's all I'm doing now. Just know I haven't given up, it's coming!!

Thank you! :) Yeah, all's going well. Biggest change is I got promoted at my job so that was a big thing I had to readjust to. I'm back on track now though!
I'm been MIA for a few months, due in part to personal things, but development of Untold Story is still progressing. I'm determined to get this game finished, so I set up a sort of "development timeline" to ensure I get work done at a reasonable rate, and so far it's been working well. If (and that's a mighty if) I follow this timeline, Untold Story will be finished within 10 months time.
One Final Wish made it to Round 2 of the Touch the Stars Game Jam, which is just super validating for everything I've done designing it and with developing in general. I don't know how much further it could get, but getting past the first round is a victory in itself. Plus designing it gave me several ideas to implement into Untold Story as well. :)

when did they announce who made it to Round 2?

...the communication from the judges over on itch.io has been less than great...

They didn't officially announce which games move on to other rounds (and they said they won't give out any official rankings until the whole thing is done), but they also said that having another judge play your game basically means it's moved on (because the judges swap games). Drifty played my game in the first round and Hawk just played it.

going by comments, almost no one on itch has played A.L.E.X. (one judge has so I guess that means it probably didn't even make it into the 2nd round? that kinda sucks, oh well, not like I actually finished it), which I don't feel great about, but I am also even more displeased with my own failure to check out other contestants games in the ???HOW-HAS-IT-ALREADY-BEEN-ALMOST-3-WEEKS??? since the Jam ended.
Getting back into the thick of work on Untold Story and it feels great to be back. I'm gonna take what I learned from the Game Jam and try and get some serious work done for the rest of 2021.
Spent the whole last month working basically everyday for some amount of time on One Final Wish (my Touch the Stars game) and today I can finally just...not work on anything and rest for a day. It feels great but also I want to get right back into working on Untold Story :LZSlol:
    My brain when designing quests:
There is piano, it needs help --> The organ (yes organ now) is missing a component! --> Where the heck am I supposed to put this missing piece!??! --> Add an entire new mini dungeon specifically created to house this new piece. --> Connect this brand new mini dungeon to an already designed dungeon with background information about the town it's found it.

    Me: :LZYhuh:
My original idea of a quest where you just paid money to complete it (it made sense in context) somehow got turned into decorate a table with a variety of choices so that the majority of players will have different looking tables.

Why stop at a table, lets add a bed, a rug, some chairs and oh crap now we need to fully develop a housing system, noooooo!

Don't give me ideas, that's one of the reasons this game has taken me so long. :guffaw:
I am adamant about not having missable quests, which means having to write entirely new scenes at each plot progression that takes into account that time and events have passed since the quest could first be accepted while still having there be a quest to solve in the first place. It's worth every second.
Writing for a variety of characters is one of my favorite things. That includes writing dialogue for a spoiled brat that makes me grimace with each sentence. :guffaw:
I think my favorite thing about seeing the games people are making is how different they all are. Even though we're all using (different versions of) the same engine, we all make wildly different and unique games. We all get to put a bit of ourselves into our games and that's the real magic. Happy developing everyone! :)
Version 1.3 of Untold Story Demo should be out tomorrow! I'm almost done with my playtest and then gotta iron out all the fixes. I'm really liking the changes I've made and I hope you all like it too. :)
Was doing some stuff with Monster sprites for something else, and had an idea to see if I could make a bigger version of a Monster. So I did it! :D

I spend a lot of time working on my game and not a lot of time actually playing games I have in my backlog, so I changed that today and (finally) started up Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. Didn't get far but I can finally begin to cross it off my list.
Haven't been feeling well the past few days, but I think I'm ready and feeling good enough to get back to working on Untold Story! As much as I wanted to work on it the last couple days, it's never in the best interest to work when you're not just up to it. It leads to a worse game.

This is for demonstration of random vocal.
My mom showed up yesterday and I wanted to proudly show off my comic con web page. So of course, it no longer existed. I guess when the 4 day event was over they removed it.
Feeling like a creative Pattato this morning...
Calibrating the timing of dialogue is deffo my new least favorite thing.
I died aged 27 to cancer. Then I was reborn in a South-American state. I retained all memories and skill and had a goal from my previous life I needed to finish, but now I was just a 1-year-old girl capable of only smiling at others.

Dreams like this one make me glad I'm able to wake up from them at will.
