Can we all just please take a moment during this troubled holiday season to take a breath, stop blaming each other for the follies of human nature and acknowledge that there is more to life than abject survival and that there is nothing wrong with that?

On empathy, yes. I'd be willing to bet we disagree on plenty if we want to talk minutia, but what is important is we empathize with each other and so those disagreements are rendered largely moot. I don't have to believe that it makes a difference whether or not I wear a mask in Walmart because I respect others' concerns enough to wear it for their comfort in any case.

I bet youd find we agree more then you think, but not on everything true. Would be weird if it was different lol. But yeah those points are moot if you agree on the main parts. Perhaps others should pick up on that more ;)

More to life, absolutely. But you can't get any of those things out of life - ever - if you're dead.
So I think it's everyone's strict responsibility not to endanger someone's else's life, and to protect them if possible... and beyond that, have fun and do you.
To buy a 5th rpgmaker that I'll almost certainly never actually finish a game on while it's on sale or not to buy, that's the question.
After nigh on 6 months of 7 days a week, 10+ hour a day shifts I've taken a much needed vacation to crash at my brother's and visit family for Thanksgiving...It's 79 degrees at 6 AM on November 11th here. Now I remember why I moved so far away in the first place.

I like snow. I can bundle up as much as I need to to stay warm...can't really do the reverse.
After wiring pretty much everything else imaginable together at one point or another I've finally decided to build my own PC for the first time. Tempered glass cases are neat and all...I don't understand the obsession with fans with rgb lights rigged to them that seem so prevalent with custom towers though.

Yeah the RGB stuff is to the point where you have to go out of your way to get something that isn't RGB. Personally, I just disable the RGB lighting either by not connecting the power to the lights (for hardware that works like that) disabling it in software (My mobo has RGB on it for some silly reason).

Now, RGB backlit keyboards are cool IMO. I just don't need it in my tower.

There was a time where the thought of having a glass case was ridiculous due to RF interference. I'm not sure what sort of coating they might be putting on those glass panels or if the machines just don't emit on a high enough level or if they just assume you can deal with it.........

like what i thinking about RGB keyboard, back then. allow user to check their parts...but,absolutely not that way. just for show off...it's kinda useless, for me.
My dog got attacked by another dog today and sprained his leg. Now he's high as a kite because apparently vets can prescribe what amounts to puppy Xanax in such situations, as well as a mild opiate. Seems a bit excessive in my opinion but at least he's limping along happy now.
How can a society function with an entire media establishment that is complicit in publishing partisan slander and easily disprovable lies right alongside each other with no accountability whatsoever? After I live through it, maybe I'll make a game based on it. The level of dishonesty at this point just astounds me though.

I speak as someone who is neither liberal nor conservative. Both of those viewpoints believe politics is about finding the truth and making reasonable policy according to available facts. It doesn't work this way, politics is team sports. In politics, your goal is to promote your party's agenda, further your interests, and come out on top.

The media establishment has one bottom line and that's profit. Their job is to grab attention and generate ad revenue. Though, there are some exceptions where some media companies are also used to promote the viewpoints of their owners. The media establishment isn't about finding facts, it's much more complicated than that.

I watched a local Amish community hold a cart and buggy presidential rally that passed by my worksite this afternoon and it really got me thinking...how do the Amish keep up with national news?

Perhaps they get their news through word of mouth. If not, I wonder if they're happier living in ignorance of worldly events? I know I often feel better after having disconnected from the news and other media.
    Philosophus Vagus
    Philosophus Vagus
I used to think the latter, but if so why would they care about a national election? And enough to go against the grain of the state they live in (the candidate they were rallying for is not going to win Vermont) and even campaign at that? Clearly they get their non-local news from somewhere, and I think I'm going to have to go strike up a conversation and find out how, my curiosity has been piqued.

Who are the Amish campaigning for?

@Tai_MT that's a danger as well, several of the 2 dollar books I just bought were actually the first in a series, if one catches my attention I might be down that road to. That's how they get you.

Well, for me it was a bit safer. It was already an anime series I enjoyed and was interested in. So, I got the "Light Novels" to fill in details the anime didn't cover as well as to get ahead of the story ;)

Finally got a doctor to see my grandmother (through threats of litigation, sadly that's what it took) for a CT scan today. On the way home they called us and said to go to the ER immediately because she has a pulmonary embolism. Searing from both heat and rage in my car right now because they won't let me in with her, terrible, terrible day.

@Philosophus Vagus OK, I'm glad that they admitted your grandma. How is she doing now - any better than a couple days ago?

I think they're less worried about you contracting COVID, and more worried about the possibility of you spreading it. They don't want to "waste" their limited test kits on every family member that wants to visit, and those are the only semi-reliable way to tell if...
    Wavelength
    Wavelength
...an asymptomatic person actually has it. It is SUCH an awful time for anyone who has family members that need medical care (I can't visit my grandma in her nursing home for the same reason, but I thank my lucky stars she's been able to stay out of the hospital). It sucks. But you gotta keep handling it like a champ.
That feeling when you found a dead guy's coin collection being sold at an estate sale and after the fact you are torn by the feeling of outright stealing from them because the people obviously had no idea what what they were selling was worth, that just gets worse when you get home and realize some of the coins were worth a lot more than you thought they were at the time even.
    Wavelength

If you're not doing it out of a sense of greed or profiteering, and you just like the coins... then enjoy them. The guy would probably be happy that someone who appreciates them as much as he did can be the owner.

My grandpa gave me his (small) coin collection a couple years before he died and it's something I've treasured (and occasionally been able to build up) to this day.

Don't feel bad at all. Family should have had enough sense to at least question the value. If they didn't, or didn't bother to take the time to look it up, it just means they were more interested in getting rid of his stuff. Keep it. Sell it. Do whatever. But don't feel bad.

I think the field journalists who reported in dangerous places still ok to me. What is the poltical analysis doing? I forget the editor and their boss actually might force them to say that.

Interesting. I usually do not go with CNN or any serious left or right leaning media. It has to be tied to a newspaper or credible news agency. I try to get the stories without political lean like they were in the old days before politics took over. "Just the facts" LOL. That said still lots of un-social distancing keeping me at home aside from the store and gas station and work.

It's sad some people don't understand how dangerous the virus is and how contagious it is apparently just talking to someone you can inhale the small droplets.
My state just joined the thou must wear masks club...funny because masking yourself is also currently a misdemeanor crime. I know they've declared they aren't enforcing that, still, seems that you should really remove the law making something illegal before passing a mandate making it illegal not to do just that thing. This is why our judicial system is such a bloated mess.

Though smoking laws have become more strict since then and is now prohibited almost everywhere including cannabis xD
    Philosophus Vagus
    Philosophus Vagus
Yeah my state actually has that same law. Most businesses prohibit smoking on the premises period these days but since legalization its technically not illegal to smoke pot in public places unless specifically stated but is for tobacco, but again, most businesses don't distinguish.
    Philosophus Vagus
    Philosophus Vagus
Another interesting law is that you cannot undress in public, but because topless beaches are kind of a tourist trap here its technically not illegal to just be naked publically. You just have to undress in private. Also billboards are still illegal, which is actually an awesome law that I hope never changes.
The youtube algorithm introduces me to the weirdest stuff these days. Last week I got bardcore music (which is awesome by the way), this week it is gun metal covers. Stupid as it is, I can't stop listening either. Who thinks to do this, and why is it so euphoric to watch?

Youtube was loading me with Bardcore-style stuff a few weeks ago, too! I think it's a crazy worldwide techno-medieval plot set up by Alphabet Inc. and the ghosts of the Medici family!
    Philosophus Vagus
    Philosophus Vagus
And I suppose the gun metal stuff is a counter-conspiracy enacted by The ghosts of Thomas Jefferson and Samuel Colt to fight back against the Medici ghost plot to take over the banking system again through bardcore somehow then?

The sinking feeling when you realize your grandmother probably isn't long for this world, and the frustration when you know that this pandemic will take her away...not because she has Covid, but because no doctor is willing to see a patient to even run simple diagnostics anymore if one of her symptoms happens to be a recurring fever, even if her primary care physician gives her the test and it comes back negative.
    Kupotepo
    Kupotepo
@Wavelength, according to @Philosophus Vagus, it is a bad law, not the doctor! That is what the doctor does nowaday to do a video chat. When I get the red-eye, I can see the doctor face to face no problem and if you want to talk with the doctor. The hospital used the google duo. I think it is a different state's law.

Working on an important character's model today: Saken! One of Cyprian's friends from the Hofau school. There he is as a teen student on the left and as an adult Deputy Minister of Love on the right. He dyed his hair.
