Haha food and France... Always a risk (but often worth taking).

Gosh! That's so cool! The machicolations are so detailed, and it looks like it was one of those ones with a white veneer that wore away over time. Must have once been a really fancy place. Those stairs are amazing too, they're so worn away where everyone's walked.

Thanks Avery! It's a small one, but a really cool one, I appreciate you sending a picture.
Just found out that mint tea made from chocolate mint tastes a bit like hot cocoa with candy cane stirred in. As I'm allergic to chocolate this makes me very happy.
*looks through past status posts* Do I seriously only chat on here when I'm manic? People must think I'm crazy. . . .
Ah, today's the start of Inktober! I should do that.

I'm never sure whether I'm left or right handed. It all started with kindergarten in the '60s being told by the teacher I was right handed so I've been confused since. I did find that when my left wrist was broken it hampered me a LOT. Having my right hand crushed didn't really slow me down.....

Most people just mean what you use to write, so I find it easier to say I'm left handed, but I'm actually something rare called cross dominant. That means that the hand that's easiest to use changes depending on the task. I can't use scissors left handed, for example. There's also ambidextrous where you don't actually have a dominant hand, and can use either for any task.
Trying to get enough of an outline for my game to know what art needs to be made. I'm very out of practice with writing, having focused on art, and I'm realizing that I really missed it.

For a visual novel the novel approach is fine but for most games approaching things with a scene view seems to have a better flow. @cthulhusquid I have confidence you'll find a good pace for that game. :)

I also think there's a lot of people who complain about games for being exactly what they should be. Some complain about too much text in visual novels and RPGs and I just wonder why they're playing them in the first place if they don't like to read.
    zzmmorgan
    zzmmorgan
I think a lot of that depends on how you setup the pace and the player's expectations. If you properly manage the player's expectations then they'll agree that the game is exactly what it should be - unless they're one of those Steam trolls who buy a game simply to get a refund and leave a bad review...
Whoa, was browsing the forum and stumbled onto you account! Big fan of your work!

Wow, really? Same! I really love the style of your art, it's got a flair that's difficult to pull off. How to describe it? Original without being too outlandish. It's able to be used more than once, but doesn't look like anything else. Exactly what you want in tilesets.

    Oh cool, thanks for looking!
I've been following your work for a while, but never thought to say hi until now.
I've used tiny 16 a few time to block out some demos before reskinning them with my own art. :D
Maybe we could jam sometime on a tiny game or something?

I'm super shy IRL, so I never say hi to the people I follow either. I really should! My health is really bad, so working together with other people hasn't ever worked out before, but I'd also love to make something together. Go ahead and send me a PM. A jam probably won't work, but a small art project might.

Just found out that my favorite webnovel, "Trash of the Count's Family", now has a webtoon. I'm so excited to see how they draw all the characters!
I want to make edits for other people, but the styles I want to work in are all paid packs. I can do it for myself I guess?

oooh i see... i apologize then, i read the post wrong. I have tried my hand at pixel art.. but get discouraged rather easily honestly. Im an ok artist in general, but pixel stuff just doesn't react the same way for me as my tablet an Krita. Please forgive my interjections.

@gothicvoid - X3 oh dont be so apologetic, and I wish I held on to my older stuff from when I first started making pixel art.... was so awful! Just gotta keep at it and practice! :D
    Sharm
    Sharm
Starting from editing is a good way to go. I started that way too. Krita is terrible for pixel art, I don't know why people keep recommending it for pixels. I mean, I love the program but using it for pixels is like doing stippling with a paint brush.
I want to make one object in multiple pixel styles, what object would you like to see?

A little bit for royal globe, but I don't have a good idea what the scale of the item is or what it's for. and I'm still guessing at the lucky fish. Since I want to make tiles, not icons, it's not enough information. I guess I'm pretty uninformed about other cultures.

I want sprites that are the same size as the clothes on the shop displays.

I dunno, but it honestly annoys me too x.x

For me, it's the doors too though, some of them are twice as big as the defualt sprites, and its like.... how do they reach the knob?! o_O

Edit: BUT then the doors that are the same size are, in my opinion, a little TOO small x.x ...oi
    Sharm
    Sharm
Yeah, the doors bug me too. This is why I'm really careful with matching the scale of everything when doing my tiles, I really can't stand it when things don't match up. It's been tricky with the stuff I've been working on recently, though, since I haven't decided on a sprite base.
I keep forgetting how much I hate how VX-MV implements fences and autotile tables.

As for fences, it's because you can only make really short ones, otherwise it won't tile. It might be better with MZ because of how it does layers. I might be able to use a wall autotile as a taller fence.

You could remove the counter flag, which means you'd then need to duplicate any shopkeeper logic in an invisible event ON the counter.

@The Stranger, that's not just tables. That's ANY other autotile. This would have to be my #1 pet hate about VX-MV. I'm sooooo glad MZ will have controllable layers!
    Sharm
    Sharm
I could, but I usually don't make tiles for just myself. If I did, they'd look very different and be more difficult to use. Making things easily usable by others means I have to follow the existing rules, even if they're extremely dumb.
I'm trying to decide on which engine to use for an extremely basic, entirely pixel art game. It's a good problem to have, but it's making starting harder than it needs to be.

If there's an all in one option that does that, it could be doable, but when I last tried to do stuff in MV I was using multiple plugins and pray they all got along to get things looking the way I wanted, and that was for upscaling. At the time there wasn't really anything for downscaling the engine other than the stuff for tilesets.
    kirbwarrior
    kirbwarrior
I totally get that. Downscaling tilesets is probably the most important part. I believe that Yanfly's Core Engine can change screen size (and I think MV also comes with a plugin that does the same). Here's hoping that it'll be possible in MZ or that this kind of plugin gets made for it.
    Sharm
    Sharm
Screen size is very different though. I've pretty much decided on 2k3, but I do hope that MZ or a future RM will have better retro art support. I like MV's export options, since I know a lot of people who don't use windows, so that makes Ace a little less attractive for a bigger project, even though it's much easier to work in for pixel art.
If being stuck in isolation is driving you crazy, please remember how you feel now. Then when we're free from quarantine, use that memory as motivation to visit those who live like this all the time.

"those who live like this all the time" are either heavily guarded, or outright don't want to be visited.

Not really. I'm talking about those who have disabling illnesses that aren't catching or the old. Basically, the people who can't go out, not the people who shouldn't.

Agree. We should definitely use this as a reminder of how many people deal with this on a daily sometimes even permanent basis.
Had a visit with my doctor on my computer today. Why can't I do all my visits this way? It's so much better! Insurance was only okay with it due to the pandemic.
Might have the virus. Or bronchitis, my symptoms are too mild to need testing. *shrugs* I'm not very worried.

We're technically in a high earthquake area here, except that we very rarely get them, and it's been terrifying earthquake scientists for ages. I've lived through. . . 6? This is the biggest one yet, 5.7 So not super big, but enough to break a few things closer to the center.

Whew... I've been on a tear recently. Been working nonstop. Feels really good to be back in the groove! I think it's because I can finally see the end approaching. I only have 8 more side quests to develop (then NPCs, some art, then pretty much done).
how the hell do i change my username???
So imagine this but autotile. Stained glass ocean.
