  • I was offered a great job, and turned it down when my current employer matched their offer. My teammate, who was a reference for me, then applied for the same job and got it, and accepted. Now I think that company hates me (for turning them down), and my current company hates me (for encouraging my teammate to apply - though they don't really know I did).

In the end tho you got better pay and your friend got a better job... Sounds like a win-win to me xD

And the other company got a better developer. The only one that loses is my current employer, who is now paying me more than I asked for, and is losing one of their best developers.

It’s quite the conundrum. Like @Finnuval says tho sounds like a win-win for at least you guys.

congrats about your new offer that’s great!
So hubby and I bought a couple of wireless bluetooth headsets (I prefer wired, but our cat likes to eat headphone cables ... and mouse cables, keyboard cables, phone charges, iPad chargers ... you get the picture). Got home as shops were closing, only to discover neither of us has a bluetooth-enabled computer.
TFW your request for a salary increase is met with "not unless you have a job offer from another company"
So you get an amazing job offer from another company, and in order to keep you, your company has to match it ... which means giving you an increase much higher than you originally requested.

Ahhh... they usually keep you on longer if you're good at hiding the bodies. Yeah I could see where that would be risky. Really there's only one answer! Take the extremely risky and highly unlikely route of full time game dev! You got this! What could go wrong? :LZSexcite:

Like other out there plans I have, I won't exactly be quitting my day job. But I can definitely dream. :LZSwink: That being said my boss is a real jerk, so I'll work really hard to achieve it. I never should have opened my own business. :kaoswt:

Not like a rollercoaster though. Rollercoasters are just terrifying.

Ewww @Kes I never even thought of that being a thing! Now there's even LESS of a chance I'll ever go on one (is there such a thing as less than zero in this context?)

Still no offer from the new company, but multiple apologies at how long it's taking. A week ago they were waiting on approval for the "team structure" (a thing I'd expect to be approved before placing the ads). On Friday they told me they interviewed 2 people and want to hire us both. It's all clear now.

So many threads to move to the right place. My post count is awesome, but 95% of it is due to moving things.
I have been dying for a weekend when I didn't have to do anything, so I could do the last of my unpacking, clean my "office" and set up all my sewing stuff. Now that I finally have one, I actually don't want to do anything. :(

I hate cover letters. Hate them. It gets exhausting cheerfully telling people how good I could be for their company, only have them mentally fill in at the end of it "if I were the correct gender for the job."

I really sometimes think I shouldn't have gone into a traditionally male-dominated field, but I love what I do, dangit.

    o.o ...sorry. /rant

@taarna23 Or be declined a job because of a stupid personality test.

"Sorry, your persoanlity type just isn't what we're looking for. What do you mean these tests are utter nonsense, and the results easily manipulated by simply tailoring your answers to meet a specific criteria!"
    taarna23

@The Stranger Oh, gosh. If I get those I make sure to answer what I think they want. ...which, if resulting in a job, unfailingly results in a terrible job.
Worked until 8 last night, then stayed up until a bit after midnight watching NCIS. It was the moment I went to bed that my cat decided was the best time to wake up, then spent the next 3 hours prowling around the house with his pitiful meow/howling. I'm not exhausted AT ALL now!

Him: Can you have it ready by Monday?
Me: IF I can give my other work to someone else AND don't run into any issues AND I rush, I MIGHT be able to make it next Wednesday
    Him: So Monday then?

You guys have the MasterChef that runs like 6x a week and actually teaches you cool techniques in Australia, right? I always wished the US version could be like that; instead it's just another overwrought cooking-themed reality competition show (though definitely one of the better ones).
    Shaz
    Shaz
@Wavelength yeah, that's the one. Love it, esp with the new judges. They don't show many master classes anymore, but I think you can go to the network website and view them.
Masterchef Australia started again a couple of weeks ago. Have You Been Paying Attention (my fave show) starts again tonight. They are both playing havoc with my NCIS viewing!
Moving day tomorrow! Do I keep packing? Or do I play games and browse forum? Decisions, decisions!

Uh ... also ... my hubby put stuff from the laundry tub into the washing machine this morning and found a green tree frog at the bottom. So that's a plus, though I'd prefer them to stay OUTside. (We also brought our frog family with us - they live in our empty plant pots and we weren't leaving those behind).

The other plus is we have 3 cats. The cat with one tooth caught this mouse.

Signed a lease on a new place today. Back into town, closer to shops, family and takeaway - none of those could be a good thing! 10 days to moving date.

To be fair, moving home is stressful, even if everything goes smoothly on a physical level (no misisng stuff, move in on the date without any problems, etc), there's still the mental aspect of being a strange environment. It's your house in a legal sense, but it won't feel like your home for a while. I mean, I even have problems sleeping in hotels because it doesn't feel like my space.

You KNOW it's gonna be a long day when it takes you 5 minutes to realize the reason your VX script is crashing is because you're coding in Javascript!

Lost 6 hours when starting out because I didn't capitalize Math. Not only was this before I discovered VisualStudio Code (godsend and a half, I tell you), but it was using custom code in a notebox in a VS plugin. I got used to VisualBasic's IDE holding my hand the whole time and had never encountered the "misplaced comma" issue until then.

I am really bad, no, I suck at scripting, so I try to do most things with events, and sometimes, yes, sometimes they work like a charm.
    I'm a eventing MASTER, hahahahhaaaa.
    Shaz
    Shaz
I think it's good to try and do things via events. Being able to script can make me a bit lazy - I should probably look for eventing solutions for things more than I do.

But in answer to your question, we do it to keep the forum organized. Something that was correct 5 years ago might not be correct today because engines get updated. People who asked questions that weren't answered even a month ago might have gotten their answers elsewhere - if they didn't, they should come back and bump their post.

The MV script calls spreadsheet is super helpful. There are a few tips and tricks in the other tab sheets, but it could be even better if there were maybe links to some of the tutorials on this forum.
So who would use a VX to MV converter? Keeping in mind that MV files can mostly just be copied into MZ and they'll work.
