  • I would not have thought turning on the "night light" setting on my display would do anything more than ease the glare, but I realised today that I've been sleeping really well since I did it!

I just have a digital alarm clock that only glows when I press the button. Still bright when it's really black everywhere else.

That's interesting, Windows 10's Night Light is literally saying blue light is what keeps you up...

... I wonder why yours is blue.

maybe it's just my perception of it. It says it makes it warmer, but to me, it seems cooler. Anyway, it appears to be working, so I won't question it :)
New programmable keyboard. Setting key mapping, somehow triggered Colemak layout and couldn't figure out how to go back. Then I needed to type a long password with no option to see what I was typing. I think the universe is saying "Go to bed."

You're very kind. Thank you :) Glad I was able to help.
Well, last day of 2020 is nearly done here. I am on-call. We have end of month, end of quarter, and end of year processing happening tonight. Would it be wrong of me to turn the phone off now?

//Looks back at the time stamps for your "Latest Activity" and raises an eyebrow.
I guess earlier today there was a 7 hours and 39 minute time gap between posts. And yesterday there was a 6 hour and 59 minute gap. So er... I suppose you could be sleeping during that. I'm not sure how you manage to sleep much at all. I just assume you've got a time compression device or something. :LZSwink:

Request tip: If you cannot art, code or music, and you are asking someone to art, code or music for you, never say "It should be easy." The people who art, code and music (who know what they're talking about) will tell you (who don't) whether it is easy or not. They do not need you to tell them.

Even if it's easy, that still doesnt mean I have to do it either... Just throwing that in there aswell xD

Actually it's not coming from this forum's request.
Some people I know irl ever said that to me, so I think the assumption is common.
It's definitely uncomfortable to hear that, but I'd like to take the positive side of it.
It give me a chance to do better. :D
My new hobby is baiting scam callers. They usually hang up on me after I ask them 3 or 4 questions they can't answer correctly. The last one was SO green! He got past the introduction, choked on his reason for calling, and hung up! All I'd said was "I'm very well, thank you." I was CHEATED!

I do have fun! I have so many conversations lined up, just waiting for the next calls! You should all try it. Each one gets easier and more fun than the last!

Tell them the call may be monitored or recorded. Then record the exchange and post on youtube. People love that kind of stuff. X3

    Shaz
Recording the call (and telling them I was going to) is one of the items on my list :D I just have to figure out how to do it. They call on my home number, and while I have an answering machine, I'm not sure it's capable of recording a call. But I fully expect, as soon as I say I'm going to record it, they'll hang up.
Anyone use a mechanical keyboard? What do you use? I ordered one, but haven't used one before and didn't have any to play with to get a feel for them. After something gentle and quiet, so went with Cherry MX Silent Reds. All the new terminology I had to learn!!!

Not disturbing others if I'm ever in a situation where I'm in a shared office again and take it with me, is a big consideration, but I think the more clicky they are, the more annoyed I would be at them too.
I got an ErgoDox EZ. I expect it to arrive sometime mid January.

I have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 now and I love it. Was devastated a few years ago when mine broke and all sellers were out of stock and it seemed they weren't making them anymore, but they eventually came back. I've never used a two-piece keyboard where you could control the distance and angles though.
    Learning Colemak keyboard layout.

Entirely fair. I had a massage therapist show me that doing small circular massages on the muscles in the forearm and biceps really helps with wrist pain. Used to have the worst Carpel Tunnel before I met her, had to ice my wrists every half a hour or so. Now after learning that trick and her initial massage therapy... I don't have to ice them at all. Maybe the same will help you. :LZSexcite:

Yes, I do the massages on the forearms sometimes, but not often enough. Have just read through a thread on the Colemak forum about micro-breaks and macro-breaks and other stuff to do for ergonomics. Fascinating.
    ImaginaryVillain
    ImaginaryVillain
I should really look more into ergonomics. I did discover some Coralite Wrist Support things at the dollar store. Turns out they also work pretty well so I often wear them during typing. There are much better quality ones of course, but hey for $2 ($1 per wrist)... It was definitely worth it. I'll probably buy nicer ones at some point. All this game dev stuff has drastically increased my computer time. :kaoswt:

Hey artists, if any of you like doing logos and could do with some extra cash, 48HoursLogo seems an interesting place to check out. I'm getting a logo done, and am shocked at how quickly people are making them compared with how much I'm paying!

Don't they have an image to maintain? One can't be a starving artist if one makes money you know. There are rules you see, it's like a code of conduct. Rule 67.b clearly states one can't be a starving artist if one has money. See right there in black and white... with perfect shading. :LZSwink:
    Shaz
    Shaz
@ImaginaryVillain you may be right, but only partly. There is a limit to how long an artist can starve, and then they die. You probably don't care so much about maintaining an image if you're dead, right?
    ImaginaryVillain
    ImaginaryVillain
As long as their death has artistic meaning, I suspect that is deemed okay by the Starving Artist Guild. :LZSwink:

If you post asking for help with something, try not to turn off potential helpers by acting like an entitled jackass in your opening request. I'm seeing a bit of this lately. Don't make yourself unpleasant to deal with. Nobody owes you anything, especially when you're using something you haven't paid for or said thanks for.

Finding it amusing that people are posting support questions in new threads for an engine that isn't even released yet. Touch and Archeia are the only ones authorised to say anything, and there's only one active thread where they'll be answering questions.

Oh yeah, fear of putting yourself out there is the worst. I still have the underlying feeling my stuff isn't good enough. And still twitch a bit before pressing the button to upload something to social media. Thankfully over time it ends up being not as bad. Best advice (which I should take more myself) just do it, don't think about it. :LZSexcite: No advice on my time though, I need more of that too. :kaoback:

Congratulations on getting in! As far as the doubt - carefully think over what you believe your path would be if you go for this degree, and what it would be if you don't. Chances are you'll come to the right decision.

New PC is built. Now I walk that fine line between wanting it NOW, and being responsible and waiting for the stress test to be finished. By this time tomorrow it'll be up and running. And my desk will have had a much-needed clean.

@FiercestPixel I didn't build it. My brother does them as part of his business.
@ImaginaryVillain yeah, I tinker with it after it's built.
I asked my brother to build me one, told him what I want to do with it, he sent me the specs, I passed them to hubby, who gave his approval and is now slightly jealous.

And looks like I'm getting it in a few hours, not tomorrow.

But I've pretty much discovered that's how a lot of people build their computers... Or I'm just insanely stingy with my money. :stache:
In other news, my new computer is now ordered, and I'll have it in my hot little hands by the end of the week! CAN'T WAIT!!!
