Have you ever made the decision to NOT help out in a thread, even though you probably could, because of who's asking?  I generally try to help where I can, especially if nobody else has responded, but sometimes I see who's posting and recall previous requests for assistance from them - either they have no regard for the rules and make things difficult for everyone, or they're rude and unappreciative, or they're just high maintenance - no matter what you do to help, your questions go unanswered and your suggestions untried, yet they still complain because nobody is helping them - in reality, lots of people are trying to help, but they're just making it hard to get anywhere.  (This isn't prompted by any threads I posted in today, but by a comment someone made earlier, and when I went to look further, I thought "oh, it's that person - I think I'll stay out of this one", then thought that's pretty out of character for me - wonder if others do that?)  I'm not sure if I should feel guilty or not.

It was me about 2-3 years ago. Now since there are more people who willingfully help each other, I feel I don't have to directly get involved into it, unless there are people who ask directly to me about what to do or what's what.

Might feel guilty at first occurences, but you'll develop it over time so don't punish yourself too much. Don't feel bad for too long time.

Yes. Some people are just mentally taxing to try to help and sometimes I just don't have the mental energy to bother.

That's it - too much to cope with mentally, and lots of other things needing attention, so sometimes it saves a lot of time and energy to just stay out.  It's just sad that there are some people griping about the forum not being helpful, when every attempt has been made, and they don't consider it's sometimes their own fault that people don't help them.

Decided not to install ANY games on my new laptop.  The theory is, with no games, I should be so much more productive, and with a couple of commissions to finish up plus a bucketload of work on my own game before I start back at work in 2 or 3 weeks, I need all the gamedev time I can get my hands on.  Not sure how long I can hold out though ... I'm bored, suffering withdrawals, not in the mood to dev, and totally worn out after visiting my parents this morning, stopping by to get gardening supplies, then braving the boxing-day traffic and crowds to go clothes shopping (which I hate doing at the best of times) only to find nothing of interest.  Think I'll be productive on something else this afternoon, and give the computer another whirl tomorrow.

@Shaz But how will you test your Steam distributions if you haven't gotten it installed?

@Spoopy I found there are just as much fun procrastinatory time wasting opportunities on Linux, though if it actually works for you then definitely continue like that. :D

Got a new laptop yesterday, due to my current one showing signs of giving up the ghost.  I wanted another ASUS, but the rep said they're now one of the worst!  That threw a spanner in the works as I didn't have any second choices.  Went to another store to see if they'd say the same thing, and they didn't, but they recommended Lenovo over ASUS.  I've seen them around but always hesitant about newcomers, and he said, no, they're IBM!  So that's what I've got.  We'll see how it goes.

I've removed the (surprisingly little) bloatware, installed Chrome & SpyHunter, and am in the process of updating Windows.  Kicked it off last night before bed, and this morning it's up to 95% and doesn't seem to be progressing.  Then comes the task of reinstalling all my software, getting my email accounts set up, and moving all my data over.

Always takes a couple of days before a new computer is "just like the old one" :)

SpyHunter isn't free, btw.  There's a free version that'll tell you what you've got, but if you want to get rid of it, you have to get the paid version, and it's subscription based - every 6 months I think.  So I'm not sure how long I'll keep it for.

Malwarebyte and BLOATING &*^&^&&*^ AGV!  sorry it kinda gets on my nerves now by stopping all I do with its popups!  Yeah Norton is finished with me when it was confirmed to freeze stiff my computer when just loading when booting my computer.  so... they have a lot of terrain to recover now!

Ack! That's my problem every time I pay or dunna wanna pay for an anti-virus; or it gets to a bloating point of efficiency that surpass my paranoid self, or it gets over its paying period before I realize, or it kinda change quality and let stuff get trough that asks me to change/buy the new best better one :((

Lenovo is a Chinese company. They bought IBM's PC group some years back, so their laptops are a continuation of IBM's laptops, but they are not IBM.

after so many stuff I made I just discovered this command :

      PluginManager.setParameters = function(name, parameters) {

Another job interview done and dusted.  This is with the bank I worked at prior to last September, so I know them, they know me.  We'd had conversations about my doing contract work there if/when there was a need, and I sent the manager an email about a month ago to see if they had any fill-in requirements for staff away on vacation.  He responded by saying he'd be looking for a full-time developer to replace someone who just got a promotion, and to let him know if I was interested.

Interview went well.  They pretty much ignored most of the set questions and we spent most of the time talking about what I'd done in the meantime, and what changes had happened in there since I left (a LOT).  The interview finished with me being none-the-wiser how I'd fare, which obviously is intentional (or maybe it just means I'm lousy at picking up on undertones, which I am).  In my favour, I'm familiar with the systems and could almost hit the ground running with just a brief refresher, while a newbie would require a 6-week training period and afterwards be eased in with simple tasks.  They also said even though I've been away for over a year, they'd still consider that my years of IT experience and familiarity with their systems would put me ahead of most of the staff who have been hired since I left, some of them within weeks of my leaving.  So that's a good sign.

Still, there are never any guarantees and I'm not making assumptions or predictions.  Might hear back by the end of this week, and if not it'll be early in the new year.  Fingers crossed.  Got plenty to hold my attention in the meantime :)

I got it!  Don't have a starting date yet - need to get all the official paperwork done, and it's 4pm on Friday afternoon now and a lot of people will be away next week.  Tentative date is January 9th, which is only 2 weeks away.

I love the flexibility of freelancing, but it can't beat the security of a full-time job.  Bittersweet.

When you can't begin to test your plugin because there's something wrong with the scene/window relationships and you can't see it in action :(

I have half a day left, and just know I'm going to use it all up on this.  Hopefully more of it will be spent testing the plugin logic than getting the windows to display properly.

You may (and likely do) know this already, but you can type an object's reference into the console to check all of its associated properties/children (including stuff like windows), so something like SceneManager._scene or SceneManager._scene._itemsWindow can be a useful way to check and make sure that all of the windows that you expect to be in the scene are actually, as RPG Maker sees it, in the scene (and have all of the properties that you expect).

Hope you figure out what's wrong and get it solved on time, Shaz! :)

Yes, I'm doing a lot of that :D

I got the windows working properly (silly MV adding new addWindow commands). Now I'm into the nuts and bolts of the real testing.  More issues than I expected (but with a 1300 line plugin that I couldn't really test in entirety until I could display stuff on the screen, I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise), but I'm working through them one by one.

Shouldn't be too long until release - maybe not today, but soon.

Giving Sublime Text a whirl, since so many people here speak so highly of it, and Atom editor tends to want to freeze up every time I open it these days.  So far, so good (ie I have been able to open my project, several files, and split the window).  I like the mini-map.  The colours are a bit garish.

Yeah, I'll have to try that.  I'm not pushing 60+ yet, but I reckon I could pull it off pretty well :D

Just went back today to order a second pair for the computer.  Didn't think I had a problem with the monitors, and I tried the 'computer' glasses on while I was there and it didn't make a difference, but noticed last night when I'm tired, the text is all blurry.  Seeing as the second pair is half price I figured it might be wise to get some now rather than later and have to pay full price.

It is sometimes because you have to get your neck and head in a certain position with cheap monitors... also, my brain pick the sweeping refresh; after 8hours straight to work on the computer, my eyes seems to see trough some kind of refresh bar passing by from time to time in front of my vision.  It is like my brain does the synch even thought I have no computer screen in front of the face!

Yeah I have high photosensitivity and my eyes likes doing the white balance a bit on anything.  Strangely enough, I once said that I would prefer going blind than daltonian. :p    Look at what I am slowly turning!  All right, I know, laser surgery.  *sigh*

That moment when you've spent WAY too long trying to figure out why your regular expressions aren't working in text box escape codes, only to realize it's because you forgot to put text = before text.replace(...)

Normally I'd rant about regular expressions at this point (and I was), but I've got to admit this one's my mistake.  The regexp was perfect all along!

Ugh!  I hate my phone company, and I HATE that I have to be with them because they're the only one that provides mobile coverage where we live!  Every SINGLE time we deal with them, they stuff something up.  My husband has had to change his mobile number 3 times because of their incompetence.  It's taken 5 phone calls today to try and get a charge reversed that should never have been made (plus 2 in early October when the incident happened), and it's still not resolved.  They said they'll call me back today - they've got half an hour left, and they've never had a good track record of calling back.  I'm not holding my breath.

I'm a little bit excited about that, and I hope I get to see them all grow and at least see a few butterflies before they flit away.  We've got an old bird bath in the back yard that's pretty useless - going to move that over near my fruit trees and fill it with sand or pebbles, then put some food in it for them.  Obviously the larva won't eat it, but there might still be some butterflies around, otherwise these ones will make use of it after they change.

I didn't get the job :(   Apparently there was a very lengthy discussion, and it was neck and neck between me and someone else, and they chose the someone else who was already working for another council using the same software that will be utilized in this role.

Still, council are looking for someone to work in their payroll office, and I used to support payroll while I was working there in IT, so that's a possibility, and I have the inside scoop that my old employer will be advertising for programmers again in a few weeks.

If I'd been on the ball, I would have asked them what council this other person came from, as I imagine they'd now be looking for a replacement :)

Keeping old doors open definitely is preferable to slamming them shut

Yeah.  That was the best place I ever worked.  I let them know it, too :)

:)   You seem cool to keep around; I'm sure they won't make you absolutely beg for it.  ;)

No news on the job front yet, other than they're behind schedule due to one of the interviewers being sick at the start of this week.  So I should hear back on that by mid next week.  Also just got my results through today - excellent outcome for both my accounting and finance units - did better in the exams than I thought.  Mark also got great results for both of his units, and is now able to enrol in his degree for next year.  I can stop stressing now, for a little while.

I opted for playing a game, doing a little commission work, and getting into the first module of my next Finance unit.  I'm gonna LOVE this unit (no sarcasm).  I love that the uni now provides so many online resources for external students - it's just a video of the powerpoint lecture slides with the lecturer's voiceover, but that's so much nicer than just a bunch of stuff to read.  I still have the bunch of stuff to read, but the video is nice.
