My it's fun to return playing with VX/XP/ ACE coding xD I missed to use ruby haha. Sad that Visual studio is not that nice with Ruby.

You can even do stupid things like this in Ruby

        class Evil < (rand < 0.5 ? Hash : Array); end

That's very cool!  Didn't know you could do that.  I could do that to make random events that have different behaviour patterns.

Join the club. I get so stressed out during the work week. I have zero energy on the weekend to anything other than sleep. Trying to get as fit as possible to increase energy, but it is hard. Anxiety sucks but I get used to it little by little and it gets easier to deal with, but I would like to have some energy on the weekends.

No phone calls today, but I did get an email from one of the girls I used to work with at the bank, who said they're going to be posting new job positions soon - internally in a few weeks, and externally shortly after.  Strange, as I'd been told all along their new policy is contractors only, though this may be for the NEW system and not the old one.  So that's a possibility, if I don't get this one, but right now I'd prefer this one due to the major upheaval the bank is going through right now.  More secure future.

Is that a case where the most times they do a new job posting you should resend your resume just so they remembers you?  Or one of those places where they just are bothered by insisting?

I'm sure they'll expect me to submit an application, if I don't have anything else by the time they advertise.  They've had a number of people in the department who used to work there, went away somewhere else for a few years, then came back again, so it'd be nothing out of the ordinary.

TMW you're getting ready to publish your working script, realize there's one more test you need to run, and suddenly NONE of it works anymore - and you spend way too much time debugging, only to realize it's because you'd reset all the customization options that cause things to happen, as a getting-ready-to-publish step  :distrust:

@Dreadshadow you say that in jest, but it's scary how true it is.  I have been in situations where my code worked and I thought it shouldn't, and have then had to debug to figure out why.  ANY situation where your code doesn't do what you expect (in this case, fail) is worthy of deep investigation ;)

Of course it is scary @Shaz! :p   I almost lost my sanity once. I was struggling with a piece of code of a project demanded from one of my clients. And I was struggling so hard I decided to do something stupid just to test if it will work. And it worked. And I was like WTF is wrong here??? I debugged the whole thing and realized that I did something VERY stupid to an "irrelevant part" somewhere else. :p

I must be going mad ... enrolled in two units for summer term.  Both require copious amounts of reading - much more than the usual amount (at least for one unit - law).  Summer term is a couple of weeks shorter than regular terms, but still need to cover the same material.  Only one week's break over Christmas.  Two commissions to work on, plus my own game, plus maybe starting a new job (fingers crossed on that one - interview tomorrow morning).  If I seem not quite with it over the next 3 months, that'll be why.

Interview over, thank goodness.  It was not a disaster and I managed to say one or two things that impressed the panel, and there was a lot of laughter.  However they were very tight-lipped and gave nothing away, and I left feeling neither particularly good nor bad about it.  They had one internal applicant, but I get the feeling they did not make it to interview.  Should hear back one way or the other late next week.

I just checked out the video for Yanfly's Doodads (I know, late to the party).  Mind = BLOWN!  If there was ever a candidate for best plugin in existence, this would be it!

I have some ideas for great expansions.  It looks like it doesn't rely on ANY of Yanfly's other plugins - am I right, or have I missed something?

Just got called up to a job interview next Wednesday.  This is for local council, where I worked previously, developing reports and applications for a number of different departments. I signed up for a 3-6 month contract and stayed for 10 years :D    The job is very similar to what I did back then, just on a different database, different tools, and for a different department.  I know two of the three people on the interview panel - one by name only (and she would know me the same way), and the other is a guy who I worked with in IT in two different companies for around 20 years all up.  Fingers crossed ...

I know.  One of the key requirements is that you must have worked in a local government situation in the past, which I'm sure has reduced the number of applications they've received (or will consider).  My biggest concern is if they advertise internally as well, there could be some competition even if they're not as qualified.

Nah!  Just that we Canadians used to sometimes switch by 1 day the Halloween night to get into the week-end if it was 1 day before or after the week-end and I don't understand why we kept it Monday.  Althought, maybe just to fit school party and keep the costume neat for the night I might guess.  Still, I am as surprised as when it was moved a day for the first time.  :p

Oh well, all study done for exam 1.  Just going to do a few exercises to make sure I've got some of the table/formulae sorted out, but that'll be tomorrow's task.

MV 1.3.3 took several hours to download yesterday (kept dying and I had to keep resuming/restarting it), so no time left last night, and too mentally drained today (plus knowing I'll probably have to start that plugin over) = not going to touch it until tomorrow afternoon.

Nah, I have no altruistic motives in doing this.  I'm doing it because I have nothing better to do, this will give me new skills, and I can get a small income while studying.  The subjects I'm doing are ones I currently have interest in and could benefit me down the track.  I don't even know if I'll stick with these subjects or change to something completely different (esp the accounting one I could change if I find something more interesting within the next few months).  If I get a full time job I'll have to decide whether to try and complete my degree or do it part time, which will stretch it out to 6 years.

Anyway, got in a good study day today.  Three more of the same and I'll be set for the first exam.  Then repeat the whole process for the second exam.  Then I'll be free until February.

Preparing a job application - something away from programming, but still computing related, which might be nice.  "Create a document of 2 pages maximum, tell us about your qualifications/licences, go through the knowledge and skills listed under the Technical Criteria and Behavioural Criteria and type each one into your 2 page document.  Then go back to each of them and write a paragraph about previous situations where you've had to use that knowledge/skill.  Then write about this other stuff too."  The list of Technical & Behavioural criteria take up a whole page.  How am I supposed to write a paragraph on each of them, plus the other info, and keep it under 2 pages, when just listing them is going to use up half the space available?

Also crazy, in Ireland if you stay more than 2 years at the same position in the same company , it is seen as a bad sign, meaning you can't progress. In France if you stay less than 4-5 years at the same position in the same company it is seen as a bad sign, meaning you are not stable.

That seems like a good idea, after so long it would be easy to forget why you implemented something small in the story or eventing. This provides a good way to get familiar with that and maybe even clean up an event or two.

It's not that I don't like it - I would prefer anime to all the others mentioned above.  I just never had time to get into it, and nobody that I personally know watches it so it's not talked about.  On the other hand, pretty much every person I've ever worked with has been Futurama-mad, so saying I don't find Futurama entertaining in any way at all is complete blasphemy.  I just don't watch much tv, and when I do, I prefer to watch other stuff.  I like game/quiz shows.  And I'll catch a few episodes of US Survivor when it's on.

So there's this 8-minute track that is supposedly "the most relaxing music ever created" and that is supposedly "scientifically proven".  I gave it a go.  Immediately my heart rate went up (the theory is that it's meant to immediately drop) and I started to feel "not quite right".  I listened to it for less than a minute.  Now my head is throbbing and I feel sick.  Pfft!  "Scientifically proven" - yeah, right.  Wonder how long it'll take to wear off?

I think it is like giving away coffee or nicotine.  You won't feel good until you develop tolerance to better things. Also if your sound system is calibrated for some CS games errr...  Yeah.  When the base gets in it is really disturbing on the bad setting.  I have to switch on normal or ELO one.  I am a bass and drum junkie.  My bass is always on.  I like the drone ballet.  I have no choice to relax while looking at it else I would float into some futuristic city.

In my case, I was crooning song intolerant when I was in a romantic situation in the past.  Doesn't help having the mood to kill when hearing a love song and being in the arms of the loved one.  In my head I was like "SHUT UP!!!!"  I guess until I learn to overcome that, this might be what would burn me crisp as in hell while it just lighten up others.

When you want to make maps for your game, but it's going to be excruciatingly slow because you have to pull the tiles together into a tileset.  So you want to make a tool that will make it easy/fast to pull tiles together to make a tileset, but it's going to take hours and you won't get any maps done for your game.

       *sigh*

Think of the time you will gain later on once the tool is made. At first you won't make progress on your game, but then, later, all of your maps will be made faster when you need to build new tilesets !

Also, I believe @Taarachnia has started working on a tileset builder (what did you change your name from taarna17 grrr)

Thing is, I used to have a tool to do this, and would only have to mod it a bit to make it work for MV too.  I remember how much work I put into building it.  But it's on my external hard drive that died, and the only way I'm going to get the data back is to send part of the drive away for replacing, which will be an expense and a time delay that will make me wait even longer.

You can carrot yourself by putting your map on paper and pin it close to your screen and THEN... Hurry up to create your tool without forgetting your map that even will tease you along and maybe help you find ideas and solve problems before even starting the map in RPGM!  :D
