  • Bought 3 (small) boxes of crickets for our beardies.  One with mediums and two with smalls, so they wouldn't have time to grow big enough to start chirping.  Now I've been listening to a chirping cricket in the next room for the last few hours.  Gave them the whole box - sure hope they find and eat the noisy one before I need to sleep.

haha - it sure does get that way sometimes!  Apart from our dog and lizards, we have one cat who will ONLY drink water from a running tap, one cat who is addicted to bok choi and howls until we give him some, and every time we open the lizard enclosure he thinks we're going to give him something to eat too (which is how he discovered bok choi), and one cat who's had no human contact for 2 or more years, who turns out to be the only sane one in the whole bunch!

I love having them around, but insanity reigns in our house!

My parents have 4 dogs, and one cat. XD We had a cat that loved to drink from the tap. You've got me on the Bok Choi though. Our pets are our kids and they get into some serious trouble sometimes but we love them though.

You two have nice pet families.  I was the pet in mine.  Kinda no wonder that in the end Mommy Cat saved and adopted me.

I once saved a mommy night butterfly from dehydration, and tourists saw me walk with her in my hand thinking itr was a bird.  Then, realized it was a BIG brown butterfly, they tried to hold her but she dunna wanna get picked by the guys and flew to the lady with a green leave shirt.  Then disappointed, returned to me!  XD

I released her but she was waiting for me when I got back straight onto my mouth à la silence of the lamb.  Folks in the streets were having that weird expression while crossing me.  My cat family convinced her to please LEAVE!!! LOL

Ugh!  I had to study 2 finance modules today, then complete an online quiz.  5 hours later, I've only done the first module.  Its recorded lecture was 70 minutes.  The second module has a recorded lecture 109 minutes long - I sure hope it's easier going than the last one, or I'm looking at another 6-7 hours before I even touch the quiz, and THAT has an allowed-time-to-complete of 2.5 hours.

Going to be a long one today :(
Been working on my Ace -> XP Autotile Conversion Script all afternoon.  Spent a good while pulling my hair out wondering why the waterfalls weren't animating properly.  Using @Celianna's Ancient Dungeons Base pack for testing.  Finally figured out Cel's waterfalls aren't formatted like the typical Ace A1 waterfalls, and it's not a problem with my script at all (but I will have to modify it to cater for the different format).  Now that I know how they really go together, they're amazing!  Got me good, Cel!

BTW...  What is THE BEST tutorial around about making A1 autotiles?  I mean... Iam not sure what I am doing with something I was experimenting now :p  (Who knows if in the future it might gets on your nerves ;)  )
Making an Ace script to take Ace autotiles and convert them to XP autotiles.  Cel's amazing Ancient Dungeons pack will be my guinea pig.  Just as soon as I buy it.

I love that MV has open scripts, so I can see exactly how the tables are drawn.

While MV certainly does have flaws, the open access to the core code is quite wonderful. I hold out hope that after another version or two, the core code for XP and VX will be released (a long-shot hope, but hope none the less).

Just going through my old store purchases.  Bought Soundscapes: Forest of the Necromancer back in October 2014.  Must have really liked it, 'cause it seems I bought it again 3 weeks later!  I really should work out a better system to keep track of resources.

@Marquise* I suspect that's because each pack is by an individual artist, and most of them focus on either art or music, but not both.

I monetize my videos that aint got copyright claims on them, but i don't get enough views to get money like in order to transfer to your account i think u need to earn a certain amount, but the most i earned is like 29pence (british money) and thats not enough.

Yes, it does say there's an amount you have to earn before you can be paid, but I didn't see how much it was on the few pages I looked at.
I think I may go back to RMXP.  Task 1 will be to rewrite all the scripts to be more modular, like Ace.  Task 2 will be to set up something similar to note tags, like Ace.  Yep - make XP act like Ace, because it'd be easier than making Ace act like XP.

If it's for your own games do yourself the favor of restructuring into a design where you explicitly implement mouse behavior for each scene. (or type of scene)

and yes redo in a structure you like.

Honestly people may think it's stupid but for my game Alone.

I restructured the WHOLE MV code...removed many class added new one renamed.

in simple you should build the WorkSpace you like.

it's will take time but after it's will get easier for you to work.

MV is currently half price on the Humble Store.  And Ace is less than $10USD.  Nobody has any excuse to have a pirated copy anymore.  Anyone know how long it runs for?  I don't see anything in the email or on the page.

Just got back from the accountant.  I know I had a rant about him charging $700 to fill in a couple of documents for me with company stuff that was over my head.  But seriously, this guy is a magician with my taxes!  I'm still going to become an accountant so I can do them myself though :)

Or an accountant who knows his stuff :)   It's not so much loopholes and exploiting, as knowing what deductions you're eligible for.  I used to do my own, but now with a company and a trust that also has to do a tax return and divide up profits and losses, it's beyond what I learned at school.  I started an accounting degree many years ago, then got introduced to computers and switched to programming. But I've always found accounting concepts interesting.  Now that I have the time on my hands, I decided to go back to uni when they were taking mid-year enrolments.

Tilemap is part of the core files.  And that's what I used in my latest plugin.
You know, when you use pirated software, you shouldn't really expect the people who made it, or the people who sell it, or the other people who bought it, to help you when you run into a problem.  That's just a little bit rude  and arrogant, imo.

I didn't really want this to turn into a discussion of the various reasons people might think are valid for pirating (I know, I should have known better - it always turns into that discussion).  I was just making a point that it's a bit rude to do it and then expect everyone to support you as if you were a loyal, paying customer.  You're not.

Awwwww...  Well now I will try to make my images for both Ace and MV sizes.

(Although, I am hesitating with MV apparently there is a problem to encrypt games... and I am sensitive with my art.)

I like how all states poses and portraits are showing per characters thought.  As an organizational POV, you always know where you are at if you do your own spriting!  :D
WOOHOO!!!! My plugin automatically updates itself to include a resource list pulled from tileset notes!  Now the necessary files will be included as part of deployment, when checking the 'exclude unused resources' box!

That was the last step.  Now to updating all the documentation ...

GREAT!  I'm sure it'll be great to get a sneak peek at it.  :p
Been working on a plugin that's almost ready for its initial release into the wide open world.  It's a bit complicated in that it requires resources to be formatted in a specific way, added to the tileset in a specific way, specific tileset notes, and then used in mapping in a specific way, with regions adjusting how it's used.  There are a number of steps to follow, and each has to be done "just right", so a number of places where people could get messed up if they don't quite get what they're meant to be doing.

Question: would you find such a process easier to understand with a written tutorial, or with a video?

Sure you have. I don't remember seeing a published script by you which doesn't include technical specifications.

Context matters, and the format and contents can vary wildly. I bet you are just not used to the terminology, or associate it with something else.

I usually try to follow a video but I try to print-out cue cards for my RPGMaker Tome of Unanswered Questions...  Err that converts into a Book of Solutions usually!  ^^
Been working sporadically on a new plugin.  Can you guess what it does?  All the clues are there.  Last milestone hit = <something> is being displayed, just not the right thing.  Next milestone = make it the right thing.

A single autotile will have its own image file like XP, rather than being combined into a sheet like VX/Ace/MV.  It will follow the same 2x2 or 2x3 tile layout.  Animation, if used, will be as many frames as you care to set up, and they will be shown in a left-to-right sequence, again like XP.  Not the 3-frame back-and-forth sequence like the later engines.

    And transparency :)

WOOT!!!! The right thing is showing in the right place, and animation is happening.  And I discovered the multiple upper layers work a little bit differently to what I'd assumed, which is a bit of a pain.  I'll have to investigate it a bit more, but that'll be next weekend.  This week I have uni catching up to do, and 2 quizzes to complete.
It feels like it's going to be a wonderful day today.  I've had a lot of issues lately, and still trying to get on top of them, but one or two things have gone my way and it feels great.  I have a million and one things to do, I'm behind my schedule, with no idea how to organize it all and get (and stay) on top of everything.  But I still feel great.  I think it's that kind of euphoria you feel when you really have no idea how deep in you are :D

The world is full of opportunities, and I want to take advantage of all of them!  I just need another 10 hours every day.
When you get a new game in a series that you love (for some reason, even though they've been getting increasingly boring and you've questioned for the last few games whether they're worth your time and money), and put 5-6 hours into playing it, keeping an eye out for a blocking bug you've read about, and you miss it and run into the same block.  Then you find that they've released an update today that fixes the blocking bug, but after installing, only people who haven't encountered the block yet can continue from where they were.  Anyone who got blocked has to start over.

Because I have all the time in the world to waste in the first place, and then to download (1GB) and play all the way through again...
    Lunarea
    Lunarea
I'm with you on that one.

I actually participate in their beta program and have had games that I tested with issues and bugs. Then the game releases a month later and the bug isn't fixed... Then what was the point of testing?
    Shaz
    Shaz
BFG has a hectic release schedule.  Once you're slotted in, if you don't make it, you don't know when your next window will come along.  Also, they will accept updates until a week or so before launch. If they have a 'launch' version they've started to package up, and you find bugs and fix them and send a new version through, they won't repackage if the game is due to launch within the next week.  They'll release the buggy version and then later provide an update.

But yeah, if they release a MONTH after you report a bug, you'd expect it to be fixed.
    Lunarea
    Lunarea
Yeah, I totally understand not being able to fix things if someone finds a bug a day before release, but if it's a month or more, then it feels like a breakdown in communication somewhere.

I think what I personally dislike the most is how many of those collector editions games have mistakes in the bonus content. And it's not like a game-breaking mistake, but stuff like "insert text 2 here" instead of the actual text. It always makes me think no one tested that bonus stuff...
Can I ask you where we can make suggestion? I got a real great one.

Most of the time in code, we can have code that check for a specific value for exemple player direction.

That create a lot of IF.

Why not adding natively "select case" element.

That will make all game so must easyller to programme.

I'm not a mod anymore, so probably not the best person to ask.
