I don't see anything wrong in preferring frontend work. My personal preference just happens to be backend stuff.
It rained all night last night, and it's still raining lightly today.  Love it.  Today is a "pull back the curtains and work while it's raining" day.  However, I hope it clears away today, as I found a buyer for all my dad's poultry, and tomorrow I have to make another trip down to meet him and spend the late evening catching 25+ chooks.  Dad and I froze when we went down there on Tuesday - going to be one miserable night if it's raining too :(

Always wanted to go to Australia because of the beaches and the hot weather (Sometimes a bit too hot for my taste) but it makes sense that It can get cold there too. At least I didn't take it to the heights of "Polar bears wonder the streets of Sweden"  :guffaw:

We are not moving house.  Renewed our lease today for another 12 months.  My dad has accepted that he can't be on his own, and even if we move to be near him, there's still a great risk, so he's made the decision to move here instead of us moving there.  Thank goodness, 'cause I took him home on Tuesday, planning to stay a few nights, and it was absolutely freezing!  We came home a day early, and aren't planning to go back apart from day trips to sort out his things and get him moved.  I'm sad for him, as I know how much he wanted to stay.  But I think this is the best outcome for him, health and safety-wise, and I'm so relieved that we can stay where we are.  Now life can get back to normal again.

Moving away from home is always hard, specially when you lived there long enough.

My best wishes for you and your family, Shaz.
TMW you find a perfect rental, and discover the best internet access you can get is only ADSL.  Not even ADSL2. :(   Oh well, cross that one off the list.  Back to the original.

The house we've applied for is in an NBN wireless area, but there's no connection.  So if we get approved, we can either arrange the connection (might cost a bit), see if the owner will arrange it (which she probably won't as she's trying to sell it so won't want to spend more money on it), or just stick with ADSL2, which would also be okay.

Yo move to Melbourne  in a little  suburb called melton we have everyyhing you need shopping center pool library kh ah if you want shazza

    But if you don't  fe

Ps houses are cheap in melton

    We bought ours for 300.000
House search continues ... we submitted an application on Friday for a rather nice, and large, place.  It hasn't been processed yet.  When I told my mum where it is, she wondered if it was my sister's old house, which used to be in town but was relocated to that area after she sold it.  Turns out, it's exactly the same house my sister used to own when she lived down there - moved onto a larger block on the edge of town, and renovated!  That's the second house I've considered renting down there that she used to live in!  Maybe I should ask her for a list of places she HASN'T owned or lived in, and just search through those.

Today I found another place that's closer to the area we're looking, it's absolutely beautiful - ticks even more boxes - and is only $10 a week more than the one we already applied for, exactly the same amount that we're paying now.  I was so tempted to just tell them to change our application to this house, without even waiting to look through it. But we'll do an inspection in a couple of weeks when it's vacant, and by then the office will already have approved our application, so it'll only need to be submitted to the owners. Fingers crossed ...

Curious. Rent is paid weekly where you live? I've heard one time that the wage in some countries is paid weekly, so I assume that's why some bills are charged weekly too (For the record, I live in Brazil and here our wages and bills are both paid monthly).
    Shaz
    Shaz
Rent is quoted weekly, but you can pay it fortnightly or monthly if you like.  They just like you to be ahead.  Some places I've worked pay you weekly, some fortnightly (every second week).  Any time I've contracted to a US company for anything, pay is monthly.  So I pay rent once a month to cover the 4 or 5 weeks until next pay is due.

Shaz > Why did you delete my post? I was trying to promote a product on your forum - one that can be used with rpg maker and compliments it quite well - it doesnt seem to be against the rules. I was also going to post free content created with it in that thread.

    Is that prohibited somehow? :o
Lease ends 6 weeks from today.  Time to get serious about looking ... first house inspection coming up on Wednesday, and it's gorgeous (rent is almost as much as we're paying in a much larger city for a brand new house, but it ticks every single box). I'm almost certain we'll submit an application.  Just hope the owner is willing to hold onto it for 4 or 5 weeks so we're not paying rent on 2 places, or go through this exercise half a dozen times.

That does sound interesting for sure. A few years ago we were considering buying and there was one house we looked at that was like that - technically a 3 bedroom but to get to one of the "bedrooms" you had to walk through the master bedroom. The other bedroom had a door leading outside - with young children, none of that was ideal. :p

Sounds like you could have you a nice at-home office though. :)

Yes, it seems it was being set up as a parents' retreat, but would also work well as a teenager's retreat or a granny flat, or as you say, as a very large office area.  We could easily use it as any of those 4 options.  There were plenty of power points and phone points throughout, which you don't usually get in older houses.  We submitted an application, to lease 3 weeks from today, but I suspect if they get someone who wants to start earlier, they might give it to them instead.  Only one other application has been submitted so far, so depending on their requested start date and term, we might have a chance.  And we also discovered that it's currently on the market.  But if we get approved and the house sells, and the new owner wants to live there, we will still be able to see out the remainder of the lease.  The downside though, is that we could be called at any time and given notice that they want to take potential buyers through :(
Mmmm ... warm porridge on a cool day!  First for the year, but there will be more :)

Still looking for a place to rent near my dad when our lease runs out  Forecasts are for snow in Stanthorpe this winter.  Then EVERY day will be porridge day!  Snow and porridge will be nice.  Not so much looking forward to the cold.  But that's nearly 2 months away (creeping up quickly though), and a lot can change in 2 months.

You know how you should ditch the toxic, negative people in your life?  What if they're family?
    AwesomeCool
    AwesomeCool
Well the best way would be to back off from the family (but ofc that is really hard).

It might cause them to even listen to you (they won't listen if they don't want to and they won't change there mind until something big changes anyway), if they think you are serious and important enough (although they might only do that til they think you are back and won't leave, or not think you are serious and not take you seriously).

I mean, I bet you tried to get them to stop being toxic tons of times, but they just continued to ignore you.  So if they do not want your help and it is hurting you, the best option would be to cut off the connection (else you will just continue to deal with them being toxic).

It is up to them to fix there toxic behavior and you should not have to suffer due to there decisions. People can only change if they themselves want to (hence the whole first step to fix a problem is admitting you have a problem saying) and that generally takes heavy external force for them to even consider it.

@Shaz extended family also means people who don't live in your house, your cousins, siblings' spouses, siblings, aunts or uncles, etc

My dad was the toxic element for a while I tried ignoring him on Facebook and stuff, but it got to the point that I dreaded even getting on Facebook.  Then he said some horrible things to my wife and I lost it on him and told him exactly how I felt.  It was hard, but getting everything out helped us move past it and things are getting better now.  It took about a year, so it wasn't easy, but I'm happy it happened now.
As of this morning, I've lost 10kg (22lb) since the start of the year.  With all the things that are not going right this year, it's nice to have a few positives.  That's 1/3 of my goal weight loss, and I should be able to reach my 'ideal' weight (based on height & age) by the end of the year.

Its not so bad, but there is a big ass storm overhead here right now. Sorry to hear about your old man, I am currently caring for my grandmother (No, its my house I am not a fat internet loser that still lives at home) but folks are saying I will have to put her in a home too soon. And I am kinda not keen on the idea, wish she'd just die in her own bed in her own home honestly. Is that bad?

I can't say I have heard of Stanthorpe though, that one is out of my wheel house.
    Shaz
    Shaz
Yeah, dad's the same.  All of his family have passed away in their own homes and he doesn't want to go into a nursing home (not quite at that stage yet anyway, but the way he is at the moment, it probably isn't too far away).  We're planning to move to be near him, but not with him, which isn't ideal.  We'd like to find a place that's large enough for us all but still give everyone their own privacy, but he doesn't want to move, and it's not fair for us, renting, to ask him to move if there's a chance we might not be able to stay too long.  So we'll just stick with the current plan and see what changes in the meantime.

Stanthorpe is on the Granite Belt, about an hour north of Tenterfield.  Wine and orchard country.

Cool beans, well all the best with that Shaz!
My two external hard drives have died - seemingly because I picked them up and moved them to another desk and plugged them into another computer.  This makes 4 Western Digital hard drives we have had over the years that have failed within a far-too-short time period.  One of them has complete backups from my last 3 computers - projects in, or finished, development, all my photos.  Unfortunately the previous "fix" of pulling them apart and making them internal hard drives won't work this time, due to using a laptop now.  My only thought is, thank goodness the complete backup I made of my laptop before reinstalling Windows, I copied back over to my laptop afterwards so I wouldn't have to take the external drive with me when I travelled!  I don't think we'll ever buy WD products again (in fact, I recall having a discussion about whether they were trustworthy enough to spend our funds on when we bought the last two).

In other news, my dad in hospital down here again.  6 hours to see doctors, have tests and get him admitted yesterday, plus the two visits to his own GP and the 2 hours of travel.  Didn't get much done yesterday.  I just wish they can actually do something to help him this time!  This means I'll be doing day trips to take care of his animals, rather than staying down there, until he's released.  While that should mean less time away from home, it's a 5-hour round trip and I'll be doing it twice a week rather than once.  I'm tired just thinking about it.

Trying to make Windows 10 open .rvproj2 files using the standalone Ace instead of the Steam Ace is like pulling teeth!  Although the issue is with Windows 10, I don't recall a piece of software or platform that I've ever detested more than Steam.  I swear I'm going to delete it one day.

Got it working for now, but took way too long to get there, and I'm not convinced it won't switch back the moment Steam updates or I open the Steam version.

Always ups and downs with the newest windows at least my opinion the good far outweighs the bad its too bad its been like 9-10 months and it still has program comparability issues fortunately for me the program incompatibility list shrinks each month I do not regret the upgrade unlike 8 and 8.1 it feels fast and effective so far despite the cons with privacy and etc. But I may be switching to linux with Virtual Box once I learn how to operate linux that will solve pretty much everything for me as I can run an emulator there from windows 98 to windows 10 if I can find the iso files. But that isn't for years from now I do not know how to code and my command line knowledge for the terminal is rather weak and I have to upgrade a few parts on my PC before I can use Virtual Machines.

I don't mind it, though I only got it when I was forced to - broke my registry (so I didn't really want to be trying to edit the registry to solve this problem) and had to reformat/reinstall everything, so I bit the bullet.

The biggest problem is that when I go to associate a program with a file extension, if there's already an association there, there doesn't seem to be a way to remove it.  I can change it, but only to a program from the store - not to something else on my hard drive.  If I try and do it via the program list, none of the RPG Makers appear in the list.  And if I use the old control panel (which is the same as right-clicking and choosing Open With and checking the 'always' box), I can select the standalone Ace, but it still tries to open with the Steam Ace.  I suspect it's because they both have the same 'friendly' name, which is what it shows, and ignores the path?  I don't really know, but I'm over experimenting for now.

only time I ever broke my registry is if

    1. I broke it using an optimizer like advanced system care

    or

    2.my antivirus broke a program
So we have 3 cats.  The youngest, 15 months, was a rescue and we got her last January when she was only a baby.  A trip to the vet last week, and an emergency trip this morning, and it turns out she may have FIP.  Blood tests tomorrow if her temp doesn't come down overnight.  If she has it, with care and attention she may have another couple of months left, but we couldn't bring her home anyway, as the other two would then be at risk.  How do you explain that to a 14 year old who loves animals?  Feeling totally helpless in every aspect of my life right now, and things just keep getting worse :(

Mark broke the news to him this morning, even as much as needing to put her to sleep if the blood tests come back positive.  He handled it surprisingly well.  I, on the other hand, am a complete mess, and it's probably a good thing that I wasn't there to be part of the conversation.  We should have test results back this afternoon or in the morning.  I feel terrible not being there for her, but I'm sure I couldn't cope.  I've never been able to be present with any of our previous pets either.

My 14yo son decided last year that he wanted to go vegetarian, and late in the year, to adopt a vegan diet.  He's done heaps of research, and he does almost all his own cooking and his own grocery shopping.  Because of his interest in healthy eating and his dedication to it, Mark and I have also found it easier to be more mindful about how we eat and getting more exercise.  While we're not going the same route as him, I've lost 8kg and Mark's lost over 15kg since the start of the year.  That's about 1/4 of my goal weight loss.  I'm really proud of Zach!

When people ask if XYZ system exists, it's usually because they want to use it in their game.  That's why we have the request forums.

Posting it in the status update leaves it visible only until a few more people post status updates.  After that, you only get attention from people who go through the status history.  Posting in the forum leaves it there permanently and everyone can see it - including people who come along after you who might have the same question.
