As of this morning, I've lost 10kg (22lb) since the start of the year. With all the things that are not going right this year, it's nice to have a few positives. That's 1/3 of my goal weight loss, and I should be able to reach my 'ideal' weight (based on height & age) by the end of the year.
My two external hard drives have died - seemingly because I picked them up and moved them to another desk and plugged them into another computer. This makes 4 Western Digital hard drives we have had over the years that have failed within a far-too-short time period. One of them has complete backups from my last 3 computers - projects in, or finished, development, all my photos. Unfortunately the previous "fix" of pulling them apart and making them internal hard drives won't work this time, due to using a laptop now. My only thought is, thank goodness the complete backup I made of my laptop before reinstalling Windows, I copied back over to my laptop afterwards so I wouldn't have to take the external drive with me when I travelled! I don't think we'll ever buy WD products again (in fact, I recall having a discussion about whether they were trustworthy enough to spend our funds on when we bought the last two).
In other news, my dad in hospital down here again. 6 hours to see doctors, have tests and get him admitted yesterday, plus the two visits to his own GP and the 2 hours of travel. Didn't get much done yesterday. I just wish they can actually do something to help him this time! This means I'll be doing day trips to take care of his animals, rather than staying down there, until he's released. While that should mean less time away from home, it's a 5-hour round trip and I'll be doing it twice a week rather than once. I'm tired just thinking about it.
Trying to make Windows 10 open .rvproj2 files using the standalone Ace instead of the Steam Ace is like pulling teeth! Although the issue is with Windows 10, I don't recall a piece of software or platform that I've ever detested more than Steam. I swear I'm going to delete it one day.
Got it working for now, but took way too long to get there, and I'm not convinced it won't switch back the moment Steam updates or I open the Steam version.
So we have 3 cats. The youngest, 15 months, was a rescue and we got her last January when she was only a baby. A trip to the vet last week, and an emergency trip this morning, and it turns out she may have FIP. Blood tests tomorrow if her temp doesn't come down overnight. If she has it, with care and attention she may have another couple of months left, but we couldn't bring her home anyway, as the other two would then be at risk. How do you explain that to a 14 year old who loves animals? Feeling totally helpless in every aspect of my life right now, and things just keep getting worse
My 14yo son decided last year that he wanted to go vegetarian, and late in the year, to adopt a vegan diet. He's done heaps of research, and he does almost all his own cooking and his own grocery shopping. Because of his interest in healthy eating and his dedication to it, Mark and I have also found it easier to be more mindful about how we eat and getting more exercise. While we're not going the same route as him, I've lost 8kg and Mark's lost over 15kg since the start of the year. That's about 1/4 of my goal weight loss. I'm really proud of Zach!
I'm having an extended visit with my dad this week. He fell on the weekend while my sister was here, so I had to come down early so she could go home. It is sooooo cooooold today! I only brought shorts and tee-shirts with me, and one jacket And we're only 3 weeks into Autumn! I can't believe we're planning to move down here in the middle of winter! I would take my laptop back to bed with me, but it's going to be hard to use the mouse and an external monitor like that. Toying with blankets, but I'm not fond of bulk. And there are no heaters Brrrrrrrrrr!
Forum tip: It's really not a good idea to tell someone how to hack MV to circumvent the trial period. Especially when the last post prior to yours is a staff member saying you're not allowed to circumvent the trial period.
#1 bonus to having to reinstall Windows & upgrade to Win 10: I can now get the developer console via test play in MV, and don't need to create all my projects in the inetpub folder and test them in a browser anymore. Yay to being able to put my projects where I want them to go! I was really hoping this reinstall would fix that issue - it stumped a number of people who are far more clever than I. I'd say it's worth it just to get that working
I broke my computer. Deleting a program manually 'cause uninstall failed, and removing stuff from the registry (done this successfully with this program before). Apparently I removed a bit too much, and said program wouldn't work after reinstalling, Chrome wouldn't work, email program wouldn't work, numerous games wouldn't run. So my week has been filled with backing up all my files (1 day), downloading & installing Windows 10 (1 day), reformatting, resetting, installing Windows 8.1 followed by Windows 10 (1 day - cause first Win 10 only did an upgrade and not a complete reinstall & format, leaving registry still corrupted). That's where I'm at now. Got to go away today, and when I get back home tomorrow I can begin to reinstall all my programs and put my data back where it belongs. At least there isn't much crud that came with the reinstall or upgrade I need to get rid of.
Now that I am no longer a mod, I can happily refuse to even look at topics that are titled HELP ME or other similar rubbish, and not feel even the slightest bit guilty about it. There is a definite sense of freedom and relief
Been looking for houses for a month or so. Not very many coming up where we want to go. The only one on the short list, which we hope to see next week or early the week after, looks quite nice - house a bit small, yard nice and big, and vegie gardens and fruit trees already established. But it has the main highway going past the front gate, and a train track right at the back of the block (trains only pass a couple of times a week), plus a school right over the road (homeschooling son hates schools and other kids). Still, it's worth looking at, only 15 minutes from dad. If we decide to apply and are accepted, the move will be in 2-4 weeks. Nothing like rushing things
