  • Thread titles on first page of MV forum: "Help me please" "Help in Events" "Need help on a couple of things" "In need of help" - Do I need to start locking or warning people to start using half decent thread titles? If you're too lazy to come up with a half dozen words to say what you need help with, I'm not going to rush to provide the requested help.

I believe I saw thread about helping others help you. Maybe you should include link to that thread in your mod text.

that wasn't the "Convince others to write scripts for you" thread, was it?

I need you to help me figure out what I need help with and then help me with that. LOL
Playing with Unity. Last time I touched it was before they introduced 2D, so I was trying to make a 2D game in a 3D system. I gave up. The changes since then are very nice (though right now I'm more interested in the 3D)

Just spent WAY too much time trying to figure out what was wrong with my script, only to realise "Fire1" in Unity is the Control key, not the Space or Enter key.

Yeah it is a powerful engine but still very hard to understand.

hmm ... anything is hard to understand when you're very new to it. This particular issue was due to me being familiar with a different engine and assuming the "action/fire" button would be the same, and the tutorial I was following not mentioning which one it really was. So I thought I did something wrong, until I looked up the documentation. I don't think it's hard to understand - just that it takes a while to learn.
lol shaz I am trying to learn Unity....did I have something wrong...? (but thanks to RM learning Unity is not so hard the concept is near but more complex and advanced in Unity :o )

Unity has a lot of good tutorials. Just make sure you do the 2D or 3D ones depending on what you want to do. I like that it lets you choose what language you want to program in.
I love how people post threads titled "??? is broken" "??? bug" "??? not working" - always assuming there's a bug with the engine, and never considering that it might be something they've done wrong.
    Shaz
    Shaz
@Hime - that's exactly right. I'd much rather see "I can't get XYZ to work properly" than "BUG! XYZ doesn't work".

There HAVE been bugs in the engine, and some of them should probably have been found before release, but that's not a reason to assume EVERYTHING that doesn't work is a bug.

but shaz, if you could see me from my point of view you would know I am perfect in all ways. Software is obviously broken.

lol the only noticeable bug I have is the sound crash in editor but they currently work on it
Note to self: Do not abbreviate your tile height variable and call it th. Because then you might have to search for it in your code. 190 hits, only 5 of them were the variable. The rest were this, Math, and width, as well as all the the, with, that, then ... in the comments.
I hate having to do fasting blood tests. A morning is not a morning without a cup of tea as soon as I get up :( Blood test will have to wait until another day.

that is awful! How can they keep you from tea? I'll drink an extra cup for you. ;)

water only. Thankfully, turns out there's a pathology only 5-10 minutes from where I live, so it's just those few early hours that I have to resist.

I never fast. Not becuase I don't want to, it's just I am programmed to eat small meals. Usually the results come out fine. They say in the future that fasting won't be needed. A diabetic friend of mine at work can't fast either.
One day I will be comfortable enough with JS and MV to NOT feel l like I'm spending forever on what SHOULD be a simple task. That day is not today.

It could be worse. If RM relied more on nodeJS, things would get quite ugly around here. Even experienced JS developers don't realize they are doing stuff wrong when they work with node and async.

A very simple mistake to make in JS is to create a try catch around an addLoadListener and expect it to catch errors on the listener method (it won't).

Easy does it Shaz. Making mistakes is how we learn. I get things wrong way more than I get them right.
I am searching for fruit trees that will grow locally. Surprised how many there are that I've never seen or heard of before. I think I will grow some in large pots so they can come with us if/when we move again.

I recommend Guava. They have a lovely perfumely taste and they make excellent preserves!

Or orange... (or lemon, or lime) They produce fruit while they're still relatively small.

I have a lemon, mandarin and fig. They are all in their first year and producing a little fruit. Used to have peach, nectarine, pear and orange, and will get those again. Zach has decided we should have finger limes. The list is getting long :)

Limes can be cool... o_o You can make guacamole with those.
Owners of our house came by today to investigate incorrectly-positioned fence. They couldn't believe such a huge mistake could be made, and will contact the builders to see about getting it fixed. They are happy for us to plant fruit trees galore and have poultry. So I might be getting poultry again :)

That's neat that you have all that. Someday I would like to have some land where I can have livestock. I bet it's a lot of work with upkeep though.

Animals are a lot of work and responsibility. I keep thinking when we lose our cats and dog we shouldn't get more, because vets, boarding, snakes, ticks, etc. And then I see a cute kitty or puppy and "goodbye common sense and logic and reasoning". The "dream" is to have all of this stuff, but actually own it rather than renting.

Used to have pygmy goats. They were so affectionate. I highly recommend them.
It's so stinkin' hot, and we haven't even hit summer yet :( Winter, please come back now. You really weren't that bad, after all.

Gotta love it when you get into that scripting "zone". Easy to focus, and the code almost writes itself. Everything "just works". Soon I will actually do a play test.

Five hours of coding later, and I am ready to test. I'll take bets on how many errors cause the plugin to be rejected, as well as how many logic errors I have.

    At least 0. You can't say I'm wrong ;)
    Shaz
    Shaz
I had to fix 4 errors before the game would run, and so far only one logic error. Not bad for a total of 8 hours of coding. Today I implement some changes I thought about overnight, and then put it through its paces.
I am in awe, and have much gratitude, at the large number of people releasing plugins and resources as "free for use in commercial games" or "contact me for use in commercial games". Thank you all. This community is amazing.

Next year I will do my taxes earlier instead of putting them off. Sent everything to the accountant at the start of the week, rang today to make an appointment, only to be told he's on vacation.

It's easy if you have a paid job - they just send you the form and you pass it on. But working for yourself, freelancing, contracting - where you don't have to pay taxes up-front and/or have to track all your expenses ... if you're not super organized (and I'm not) it's a lot of work at the last minute.

I hear that, Shaz. Getting ahead of taxes as a self-employed individual takes a lot of work.

Reminds me of having a paper route. I had to do taxes every month cause I was a contractor. Had to save all job receipts gas, snacks, etc.
Is anyone using the resource packs (non-RM license) to make a 2D game in Unity? Can you PM me please?

GameDevFort has a number of resource packs that can be used outside of RPG Maker.
Today's tasks: submitting tax return and prepping son's homeschool report and next year's application. It's going to be a long week. I WISH it was a day's task.
mmm ... which plugin to port next? Dynamic Traits/Effects, Clone Events, Multi Timers, State add/remove commands or large sprite collision?

Large sprite collision please! lol. I remember looking for a working solution for Ace a long time ago and finally succeeded by editing/modifying Victor Engine - Pixel Movement script. Hope the MV conversion goes smoothly for you!
Guys, if you need plugins or need help with plugins, PLEASE post in the JS Plugin Requests/Support forums.
If you have posted bugs in the previously-pinned bug thread and it hasn't been resolved yet, could you please post a NEW thread in the MV Support section? Everyone posting in the same place (many not real bugs at all) has just make it too hard to keep track of. Thanks :)

Can I just bump my original report (it was in its own thread before the consolidated thread started.) It's the elf ear issue for SV, TV, and TVD chars in the generator. Or do you think that's something that won't be addressed?

It's already been logged with kdkw, but hasn't been actioned yet. There is no comment saying it's NOT going to be done at this stage.

Thanks for the update. Since it's already on the radar I'll refrain from bumping the old post.

Gonna take a break from helping people with resource requests, it has been too much of a disappointment lately.
whats the easiest way to add an on-map command in RPG Maker? like when you press a button the character just jumps or runs when its held? should i get an ABS plugin and customize?
Thinking of doing a crowdfunding kind of thing on my ko-fi page, but i don't have an audience :kaoswt2: and i don't want to go to the big crowdfinding sites cause i can't guarantee that i'll complete the project. It's just for fun but i still need some more tools. Anyone else in the same boat? :kaodes:
Pretty proud of this train station i'm making!

Steam has announced a new feature to let people switch between playing on PC and on Steam Deck with the same save. I'll come back to add support for it to my steam plugins when the time comes.
