Will you make me some pancakes for breakfast tomorrow, Shaz?

No, but now that you've given me the idea, I might make some for ME ;)

lol Archeia! Wanna join my team? :D
Why, hello weekend! What shall we do together? How about some scripting, and side quests?

and a side dish of hours and hours of procrastination. Well for me atleast.

ugh! I've done plenty of that, believe me. No time for it this weekend (though my two-hour trip down memory lane watching songs on youtube last night doesn't bode well)
My first live systems support task: 10 minutes to confirm everything that's needed and to assess the impact of the change; 5 minutes to make the change, including documentation, 3 hours and counting to test, because of incorrect permissions, poor test data, disabled ftp access ... *sigh*

And here I was thinking training was becoming slow and boring, and that it would be exciting and fun to actually do REAL work :(

While I'm desperately hoping this is a shallow look into tech support, this is all I've known to be tech support:

But I really do wish you luck with your job, and hope you find some way to make it more fun!

I didn't follow the link today, but I'm sure I've seen it before. Sadly, yes, there are gems like that in tech support. Sadly, systems support also has its own gems.
My official training period came to an end today. Tomorrow I will finally be able to get started on real, live support requests. YAY for being able to play with other people's money :D

Oh no, not tech support. While I don't it, perhaps Australia is more technologically savvy. Stores from reddit tell me otherwise.

Not TECH support (though I get that often enough with family members). This is SYSTEM support (software stuff).
I have FREE TIME!!! Now, I KNOW at least two people were waiting for me to do some script conversions. If only I could remember which ones.

    Shaz
Jomarcenter, do you have a game that's been approved for Steam?

Zan, what Justice needs to be done?

Okay, one script taken care of. Now, I think someone wanted me to convert one of my Ace scripts to VX.

    Shaz
Ah, there it is. Just had to figure out the easiest way to find you :)

Spending your free time helping people! Your just too nice :p now you should reward yourself, watching a mushy valentines movie or something haha
Have just discovered that a piece of client/server software that I paid a whole swag of money for assumes you're on a Windows server. The only times I've ever used a Windows server were all within a single company/location - any distributed stuff was always based on linux. Now fingers crossed they'll give me a refund :(
    Zalerinian
    Zalerinian
Ergh! Badly designed/explained products! I hope you get your refund quickly and without any hassle D:
    Shaz
    Shaz
Well, it makes it clear that the CLIENT is windows-based, but I only discovered that the server is also when I started going through the installation guide. Knowing where it is NOW, I can probably say I SHOULD have looked at it before buying. Another option is to find a web host that works on Windows Server. Don't like my chances.

Friday. 4 hours to go until freeeeeeeedom! I AM still enjoying it, but I'm tired. We had to THINK this week. And I had bugs ... lots of bugs.
Today, I GMD. Better late than never :( Finally have a Surface Pro so I can work on my game during lunchtime. Now I might actually accomplish something!
Have been surprised the last 2 weeks that going-to-work traffic wasn't near as bad as I expected. Realized this morning why ... the last 2 weeks were school holidays. BIG wake-up call this morning!

It was almost like that scene in The Truman Show where Truman is trying to get out of town, and takes advantage of the streets with absolutely-no-traffic.

I'm lucky cuz the route I had to work was not near any elementary, junior high or high schools, just the college, but by the time I was leaving to work, the initial college traffic was already in classes. lol
Today is my catch-up day. Now if only I could remember everything I told people I would do for them as soon as I had some free time ...

I can remember you telling me you'd get me a 1:3 scale model of the Eiffel Tower done using matchsticks.

Does that mean I'm finally gonna get that chocolate sundae?
    Shaz
    Shaz
lol - my memory is hazy, but I'm pretty sure there were no Eiffel Towers or chocolate sundaes mentioned anywhere. But NOW I'm going to have chocolate cravings for the day. Thanks very much for that!
FINALLY today I got to start writing programs at my new job. Today was the most enjoyable training day so far. My first program? "Hello, World!" ... of course!

nah, it's not security. This was an off-the-shelf system, but it's 30 years old. So while the tools are still up to the job, the way they were used 30 years ago (to build the huge core database that's still being used today) follow very different practices to databasing today. The moment they say it's time to bite the bullet and rewrite the entire core system following better design principles, I will be all over it!

It's quite old - 2000 model. A year older than my son :) But it's small, easy to drive, and a wagon, which were my 3 requirements. I even managed to pull into a fuel station without knocking over any of the bowsers (something I've never been confident enough to try with our "giant" car - I'm a shorty, so any 6 cylinder is too big for me to see the front of :D )
My new job is awesome. In addition to actual job-related and people-related good things, I get to fb my lunch away if I want. But coming here is much more interesting :)

lol - so reading through the IT policy, gaming sites are off limits, however I haven't been blocked yet. So it'll be touch and go. If RMWeb gets blocked because it's game-related, I'll just use my iPad and write stuff for my own game instead.

Survived the first day. Onto #2. I'm sooooo tired :( And since the third new employee isn't starting until next week, we're not actually going to be doing any real training. So it's all just reading and induction this week.

I can see a few scenarios regarding the iPad:

    1. You could just plan them.

    2. It's not for RM related use(The USB would, most likely if anything at all)
    Shaz
    Shaz
No, not RPG Maker on an iPad. Just some word processing and spreadsheeting to plan out side quests, so I can spend my at-home time actually implementing them.

I can't plug in a USB drive, but they're fine with me having an iPad, and also with doing my stuff on the work PC (in Word & Excel) and emailing it to myself at home. I may raise some eyebrows by anyone monitoring external emails, but it'll be fine :)
My last day of freedom :( Tomorrow, game development takes a backseat to a full-time job. It's been 13 years since the last time I was someone's employee.

I search the Screenshot thread nigh daily. I like seeing what people are up to. I'm sure a lot of others do too. I'm sure it'll get noticed just fine, friend. :]

There is this person called "Shaz" whom I want to tease and torture a bit. How do I do this?
    Shaz
    Shaz
lol - trust me, you're doing just fine at it already ;)

I find I can block most of it out by putting my fingers in my ears and going "la-la-la" for a while.

I've been working on plugins to make it easier to incorporate Persona 3's Once More batsys into MV games. One makes it so you can have states automatically applied to the target and/or user when their hit crits or targets a weakness... I could use testers for it, though. Maybe I'll make a thread in the JS Plugins In Development board about it?

Knew this hurricane was coming for me, because it got my name on it! See you humans and non-humans in a few days if not a few weeks. Now go work on yo games!
