So I think I'm getting a bit carried away. I'm gonna end up changing way too much of the game if I try to make every script a custom one. Though the visual battlers script is absolutely getting swapped with my own.
People have been suggesting to go back and fix up my old one map challenge game. And I kind of want to go through with it. And part of me wants to take what I've learned in MV/MZ and see how that translates back to Ruby.
I've been having a very hard time lately just focusing on stuff like a story and world, because I'm so distracted with the coding bits I've been learning.
It turns out there's a limit to the number of plug-ins you can have. Horrifying. But it's given me a reason to re-code things to thin out the testing ground.
I decided to go back and give MZ a try again, and liked it - but wished we could animate like in MV. Only for them to go ahead and release an update to do just that apparently. What.
I am a complete fool. I went through the trouble of making a clone sprite and setting up a system to have the characters flash, when it turns out - I never noticed that the "._mainSprite" was the actual bitmap being used. I'm happy since that makes compatibility easier, but I also want to scream.
Been making progress with scripts and stuff. But it's getting really messy deciding if I should keep each script as its own separate thing, or which ones to just combine.
I added a little squish effect when characters change direction to try and make things a bit more lively. Though it's a bit hard to see on the fast moving guys.
I finally did an array, though I think it needs work. I had it add a bunch of states passively. Except I put death in the array by mistake, so the second I hit new game the screen instantly went to game over. Is that what it's like to play dark souls?
I moved back to MV awhile ago, having effekseer, mz, and clip paint was turning my laptop fan into an attack helicopter. But I did learn some tricks so it wasn't a waste. Just wish I would have bought it for steam though in case I got a new comp.
a friend of mines said I need an elevator pitch for my game. he then went and gave me his for his comic... then I realized I have no idea how to explain my game the way he did his comic lol.
