  • I set up a "Show Picture" test event with a circular image to figure out how/where I want images to be centered on screen when "Show Picture" is used. Just a small test but foundational for what I want to do in my game.

Secondary test performed: Moving Picture and using opacity (also in Move Picture) for a fade of the picture.
For my license board system, I've decided to try using Irina's tool ring plugin and a common event item instead of Yanfly's menu actor events which doesn't seem to work right. I think I'll replace the slot I was going to use for [license board] in the main menu with a [Tutorial] menu instead.
Yanfly Menu Actor Events is glitching on me - I was going to use it for my license board skill system but now I have to come up with an alternate method. Ugh.

You know how mv is in general, you gotta find an alternative for the thing you want.
I'm thinking of going with a FF12-style license board for my first game now. My experimentation with activating skill purchase windows through touch floor events and my editing of sprites has made me realize how to go about it.

Yea its easy to do it with events. The only problem would be making sure your Cursor would follow the Exact Path which will be a Pain to event.
If the new RPG Maker's character generator produces full busts and can match the art styles of previous RPG Makers, that might be a big incentive to buy it. An easier way to craft custom map tile sheets though would probably be an even bigger game changer.

Busts in the generator would be pretty neat! What do you mean by "craft custom map tile sheets"? Are you talking about creating new tiles, or joining them to make a tilesheet?

Yeah, making custom tile sheets is incredibly tedious right now. Streamlining the process would go a long way.

The alternative would be if they greatly expanded the number of tile sheets we could load while mapping which is also good.
I got to thinking - it's not just the app itself when considering purchase of RPG Maker. At least one reason to get the new RPGMaker even if not switching to use it may be if they're packing in a ton of new high quality assets for the RTP.

Yep. I'll probably get it just so I can legally use any edits made on the RTP in other engines.

@bgillisp Same lol. The jump from VXA to MV since MV is unlocked (resolution, plugins, etc.). I'm curious to see what the next engine brings. But for sure I'll get it just for the RTP too lol.
So a new RPG Maker has been teased on RPG Maker Web's Twitter. Hmm...

So much up in the air on if this announcement excites me or not. I mean MV without plugins would be terrible... So I suspect the new RM won't be all that useful for quite awhile. Also if it's in another programming language besides Javascript I'm out. XD

Gonna be a hard pass if they dont change the 48x48 tile restriction in the editor. Literally the only issue I have with MV that keeps me using Ace
I'm thinking of having a scavenger-based way to learn advanced skills in my first game, and use the work I did for figuring out a skill grid/maze instead for an optional dungeon in the game.
The video of a psycho chasing people on the streets with a sword before getting subdued is wild. Apparent screenshots of his Twitter feed (EDIT: confirmed by Dallas police) before it went private reveal a dangerous delusional mindset. I heard there was a bow person too. The crazies are really coming out of the woodworks.

Yeah, people from all corners are coming out during the American protests. There are a few of them who are exploiting the advantage of the chaos to act out on psychotic and violent desires, like the crazy person with the sword who was essentially hunting for people to stab under a lame excuse. It's scary out there in some places.

Most of the protestors seem to be going about peacefully though. The bad apples that are looting and destroying property seem to be clashing with the legitimate protestors in a number of places, and some police are going overboard with response. The more peaceful locations have the police handshaking and marching together with protestors so there are rays of hope amidst the chaos.

@Storyteller-Hero In any other year it would be wonderful to have policemen handshaking with protesters... but... well, I really hope everyone brought Purell along! ;)
My first game is going to have the main character more or less create monsters as his party members.

Thanks to the plugin creators still producing content for MV, I might be able to give each of the monster members a personalized range of tactics during combat. I liked how the devs made it like that in FF6.
There's another Humble Bundle available now for RPG developer assets, this time focused somewhat more towards pixel art style games.

Noob question here. When purchasing the bundle, do you get all the resources or? I have never tried purchasing anything through humble bundle... Now that I have the means, I am somewhat interested.

You do, but I have found there is a time limit (probably over six months mind), so make sure you download them.

Oh that's nice then, I assume this is with the minimum amount paid? Thanks!
I successfully performed some testing of Irina's visual novel bust plugin for MV. It works, and the motion control on the busts has given me some ideas for visual storytelling I wouldn't have thought of with only static placement...
I just successfully tested having an event check to see how many members are in the party then add a member to the party if an open spot is available. This is going to be useful for quests that add temporary party members.

I had another event next to the testing event to remove a member from the party after "talking" to the testing event to test a "failed add". I used a conditional branch that uses a script call variable for # of party members.
The greatest victory for RPG development is probably having most of the players actually want to finish all the way to the story's end without leaving for a different game before then.

@Windows i7 You still finished it right? Cause that's what op was pointing out. I'd say it really is a good feeling of acknowledgement when you know people managed to finish your game despite their rants/comments afterwards.

This is legitimately true. Same with a tvshow/anime imo. Anything that grips me all the way to the end without me considering other options is one of my favorites.

I have to admit there HAVE been times I've returned to something and thoroughly enjoyed it the second time though!

@Wazzzyki Yeah. I really liked the story of P5R quite a bit. The level design is also (IMO) epic, especially with how clever the developers were with matching the puzzles to the story theme wise.
Something I learned in theatre sound design that is applied to my game:

When picking out BGM, it's important to consider whether the player will be listening to it on a repeated loop, especially if it's for a location. Some tracks might not sound too annoying at first listen, but when used for looped replay can downgrade your project's quality in the mind of the listener.
    PresaDePrata
    PresaDePrata
And how would one know if it's annoying? By hearing it over and over?
    Storyteller-Hero

With practice, one can pick up during the first listen on particular sounds that if looped, can grate on people's ears. Imagining how it would be if you already have a headache can help a lot.
I just picked up a current Humble Bundle for music with a broad commercial license. It's an extra good deal for me since I'm planning to start a YouTube channel this year aside from making a game, and I can use the music for both according to the legal text (found on support.humble.com).
For my world map, I may go with having the basic landmasses and ocean parallax with a photoshopped natural, non-blocky look, and dot it with a mix of RTP tiles, edited RTP tiles, and custom tiles for the mountains, trees, towns, etc.

That moment when you're getting a new update ready, deploy it for the final round of testing (gotta make sure the deployed version runs, ya know?) andddddd there's a visual blip :ysrs: Doesn't impact gameplay. It's only on-screen for a few seconds. But you can't leave it there.
So now you have to fix it, then redeploy, then retest. Why do I do this to myself.
So I'm reading a sci-fi book called Berserker Man. Now, the 'Berserker Man' isn't a man or a Berserker. He is actually a very calm 11 year-old-boy. So misleading title. He was recruited to fight these emotionless killing machines called Berserkers. Also confusing. I will read it until it starts making sense.
A few tweaks and changes, now the load screen is literally loading :kaoswt:

I tried a new thing.
