  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is coming out this week (and Fantastic Beasts 3 next week). This means the Morbius box office take is likely to tank drastically, and perhaps fail to break even for Sony by the end of run. It could be said that the same principle applies to planning a videogame release date - be wary of release dates from the big studios.

? Sonic did really well at the box office, not sure what you're talking about. The first trailer did poorly, but they redid the character design and people thought the movie was decently fun. I didn't even know there was a Morbius movie, that's the Marvel vampire guy right?

It's the Marvel vampire guy, but the way Sony tried to connect it to the MCU is so bad, it's making people leave the theater with a bad aftertaste even if they somewhat liked the Morbius movie.

Ouch. Sony's movies are so hit or miss.
I have contributed a pixel to making the new Omori image on r/place. I feel like a patriot to the cause. Glory to RPG Maker fandom.
I just noticed r/omori claiming a patch of area in the r/place canvas wars. The RPG Maker fandom has entered the madness.

The Star Wars poster was originally on the right half of the canvas too. That means the original got covered up and they had to completely recreate it again. Madness.

Oh yah, they redid it again after someone put a bunch of those among us guys in it haha!
There's also the dog from undertale hiding to the bottom-left of the Ousa thing.
Additionally, my country flag is broken ._. We clearly cannot draw a maple leaf.

Your Turn to Die also has a little spot claimed last I checked!
They [brought back?] a game called r/place on Reddit where every user can place dots on a map with a 5 minute cooldown. I saw works of art get replaced by other works of art as people competed for spots on the map. It's kind of an interesting social experiment.
The screenwriters for Morbius apparently also wrote Dracula Untold and Gods of Egypt. The movie now feels like it's going to be like when a beginner with zero relevant skills to begin with puts out a commercial RPG Maker game on Steam and charges a lot of money for it after only a few months learning the system.

I'm thankful that there are so many notes and tutorials available for RPG Maker stuff. It shaves off so much time trying to make sense of things on one's own. The community is full of beautiful souls.
Instead of a treasure chest, a pile of adventurers' bones might be more logical for finding treasure in a dungeon, heheh.

I made a lot of interactable things that can be looted tbh. I like games where exploration and trying things is rewarded :p

My favourite version of this was an old D&D video game ( Eye of the Beholder? ) where you could find adventurers' bones and then use Raise Dead scrolls to gain new party members.

That is sick! The raise dead thing....Damn, I got inspired now. Maybe.... Absorb scroll that when used in combat just absorbs mana, but in overworld you can use it to drain water out of a well so you can climb down...or some **** :p I never use scrolls in games, they always feel useless. But if they have an overworld effect...well that changes things :p
I might pack my game with enough side quests that award XP, gold, and items to make it possible to skip all the normal monster battles in a run through to the end of the main story quest.

@Dwesper There will still be monsters with rare drops like a typical RPG, but it might not be mandatory to grind monsters to finish the game.

@Nenen Completionists will have to do both to get everything in the game, but I kind of want to make it possible for people to get by on side quests if they get tired of normal battles.

Would it technically make the game easier though? I suppose I'm asking.

@Nenen It's about making the game more chill. Not everyone has the same level of enjoyment from different aspects of a game, so I'd like the player to be able to customize their experience of the game to some extent (not to be confused with customizing characters).

There will never be another Atari Shock tier games recession, because the world will always be depressing in some way and people will always need a new escape from reality, and access to escape will keep getting easier thanks to the spread of technology. Atari Shock came because accessibility was too limited for healthy growth of the industry, and now it's driving the growth of the industry faster and faster.
The flopping of Babylon's Fall is a cautionary tale of release timing, quality control, and marketing. Games as a service is also harder to sell as a model nowadays due to grind fatigue. When a game becomes an unfulfilling day job, the game next door starts looking sexy.
Theoretically, although it seems that even a good commercial RPG Maker game would be lucky if it sells up to 1,000 copies in the first year, the existence of a well-planned, budget-invested marketing campaign for such a game may turn that 1,000 into a likely minimum for sales for the first month.
So apparently budget anime uses 24 FPS, but it's actually the same image per 3 frames, for about 8 images per second. With video editing and camera panning/zoom, the amount of work to animate can be cut down significantly.

Don't movies also use low fps? I think it has to do with consistency as I've heard high fps movies can cause dizziness when you're exposed for a long time.

Would have been useful to know this before throwing out the Opening animation out of the window...
    Neat.
WoW classic is an interesting experiment for game devs to look at since it is doomed to die by design, since it has no future by design. No expansions means it can't really progress. It's a stopgap measure for WoW players losing interest as a result of bad quality management and bad expansions. It eventually becomes "same old thing" and boring because it can't evolve much by design.

It is literally impossible for a new player to experience the whole story, in fact as The Stranger said, is not in the game anymore. even if you do all the quests in the game, or do the time walking leveling thing you will miss the story because it's lost to the patches. A new player can't feel interested to the story because it has no attachment to any of the places or characters.

At some point the number of expansions that can be added to WoW classic hit a limit as part of its fundamental design, and the limit comes sooner the closer they get to the point where the original started falling off. There's no room to grow past that limit unless either rebranding as parallel development or abandoning the original Wow.
    The Stranger
Yep. Like with their most recent expansion. It has so little in common with the original game that it might as well be its own thing.
A lot of what I'm learning from research on marketing a videogame has to do with making the most out of a marketing budget, and the more you spend, the less it costs per customer acquired. The game still has to be good enough that they won't return it for refund though.
I've been adding to a list of streamers and influencers almost daily little by little. By the time I start doing my game's marketing (probably in late 2022, early 2023), I'll probably have at least several hundred people on the list to send demos or copies to. By the time my game is published, maybe it'll be close to a thousand people. This is definitely one of those things best planned early.

Smart idea. I've similarly been building my influence in other places doing stuff for the community and marking people I can possibly ask to spread the word of my games when they properly come out. Like ManlyBadassHero would be a good bet.

This has got to be the thing I'd dread most about doing.
Although who knows, maybe I'll end up liking it so much I decide to be part of some marketing team for somebody :p

Actually it might be a good idea to post it here somewhere if that's within the rules so others can see it too. All parties would benefit.
