Not to go off topic, I think your question is best asked as a thread discussion if you want opinions of people on here. For me though, I don't mind. I can like both random encounters and on-screen encounters. What matters to me with random encounters is just that they aren't too high, but since you are already thinking of them, keeping in mind players searching everything, you probably are doing them well.
I've been trying out Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark, and it has an interesting approach to consumable items - you get a limited inventory that is automatically refreshed to max limits (1 or 2 each, craft to expand + improve effect) at the start of each combat. It's a mechanic that goes against the common urge to hoard consumables.
