  • Well, Blizzard... thanks for making it easy to decide what to delete to free up some hard drive space... I guess. Ugh.

Quit their games ages, but only because their products are lacking. Will be interesting to see if the accusations are true, always fun to see a sinking ship, especially titanic :p

@taarna23 Honestly, I'm not surprised. Is there a game company that hasn't been accused of sexual harassment? Even those that seem "progressive" on the surface end up being staffed by weirdos. I haven't played a Blizzard game in so, so long. Last game I played was SC Remastered, i think. Might've been WC3 Reforged. I can't remember. xD

Especially the ones who claim to be progressive i'd say :p
Upscaling some VX Ace stuff because I need a break from the XP stuff. Trying to arrange those tiles into properly autotiling, easily-usable tilesets is surprisingly tough.

But so, so very worth once done! For a project of my own, though, I gave up and just threw everything into a B tileset and used layers to get things done.
    taarna23
Once you get the hang of it, mapping with individual layer control is absolutely glorious.

@spillycup Well, good news for you! Make a backup of your project, make a new MZ project, empty it, drop your MV stuff in and see what errors! Maps will come over, animations won't... there were some other things. I brought over a project of mine like that and it wasn't too bad.

@taarna23 thanks so much for the tip! i didn't realize it would be that simple, i thought i'd have to build it up again from the ground up >_<

@spillycup No worries! MV and MZ do have a lot of similarities under the hood, and MZ has a lot of "just make the MV stuff work" code in there as well. If you have an issues, let me know and I'll do what I can to help. I may need to try to recreate the process to remember what all I did, heh, but I'll do my best! :kaoswt:

@TwentyFree Pixel Studio, with an off-brand apple pencil that I am so glad I got. It's weird but it seems like my barrier for making pixel art that I actually like was simply using a pen instead of a mouse. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's nice to have options! Don't worry, I'll be sharing these with the community. There's just... lots to do alongside it, and that's just taking XP into consideration.
Trying another upscale method to mitigate some issues I encountered before... I kind of love the neat pattern it's created from the XP grass.

Krita's got the image split command, it cuts the image up into equal portions based on the number of horizontal and vertical lines you give it. It's what I used to cut up PVG's giant patron character sheets. It would have no problem chopping up a tileset. Also it's 100% free open source goodness. :LZSwink:

I use GIMP, personally... Other stuff for the actual upscale process (hooray for machine learning). As far as it goes, though, XP's tilesets are hardly what one would call equal sized potions all the way through, heh. Enormous trees and single square tiles, on one sheet. x_x
    ImaginaryVillain
    ImaginaryVillain
Ha, yeah that's fair. Been so long since I've actually used tilesheets I forgot about the whole multi-square thing.
Ugh. Going to upscale some Ace stuff because the XP stuff is giving me a pain right between the eyes. >.<

Between these two efforts, I'm also realizing that GIMP's resampling for scaling down images is absolute butt.
    TakeHomeTheCup
    you don't like XP art?
    taarna23
    taarna23
I seriously less than three the XP art! But the upscale process was having some issues and I needed a break so I could mentally regroup before gicing it another go.
When gathering requirements for what someone should have when following a tutorial, and the first is "a PC" and the second is "with an nVidia GPU," it's probably time to scrap the tutorial idea.

Yeah, but specifically nVidia? I can't even test the results of what I've been doing on a non-nVidia device because my computer has it, my bf's laptop has it, and even my like... probably almost a decade-old laptop does...
So I'll just keep plugging away at this stuff and just share the results. Honestly, most people are going to want the finished stuff anyway.
    The Stranger
I've only ever used Nvidia, too. xD I think the worst GPU I've had was one of those built in intel HD thingies.
    taarna23
    taarna23
Oh, those are SO bad... I mean, I like having a backup GPU for when the main one dies, but that barely qualifies as a GPU... >.>
Ooh. My poor sore arm. Worth it, though. Got my first COVID vaccination today. In a few weeks I won't be a potential disease vector! At least, not for this particular plague. :p
Phew. Done with the new upscale method for now, and tested it. Looks good, I think.

@knightron I do plan to. One step at a time! This stuff takes a while.

@Shaz I might? Some aspects are complex, especially setting up the autotiles so MV/MZ likes them. I've tried explaining autotiles before with... minimal effect. As for touching up, no. This was a throw it all together and see how it works experiment. It went better than I expected.

Experimenting with a new type of upscaling and tested it on some XP characters. The results are just unreasonably adorable.

Time to get to work! For Valentine's Day, the bf is getting my take on Fallout 76's Perfectly Preserved Pie. It will be a strawberry-lemonade faux cheesecake (cremora tart).
    ImaginaryVillain
    ImaginaryVillain
To fully simulate Fallout one must add additional RADs. Perhaps put it close to a running microwave for awhile, and perhaps a cellphone or two. Got to be authentic and all that. :LZSwink:
    taarna23
    taarna23
But this one is Perfectly Preserved. No rads! Regardless, this one turned out... somewhat imperfectly. I ended up using a different recipe than my usual and it turned out runny. Should have just stuck to the usual one I guess. Still, it was good, and the bf was happy with it, so yay. :3

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the concept of the outside world, let alone people IRL. These are strange concepts you put forth. I shall adjourn to deeper into my cave to deliberate on the validity of claims of their existence. :kaoswt:
Ahhh. Progress feels good. My little board game project has an intro, a first map, enemies for the first map, and branching pathways as you make your way around the board.

Less than 20 tiles remain in Inside_B that I need some kind of analogue of in my in custom Inside_B, and a whole 39 tiles that I didn't use and can thus make my own custom tiles or my own flavors of from other tile sheets.
