    So... I just read someone saying, "All games these days are crap because it's all either fighting monsters or being monsters." I think that statement is the quickest way to divulge to everyone you're talking to that you've never played any video game before.

    Well... I think today's games focus more on graphics and gameplay. They don't put enough attention to the story/characters. I mean, if you are gonna be killing monsters at least gimme a good reason why, else it's kinda pointless IMO. In that aspect I remember having more fun playing old stuff but maybe it's because I'm getting old and my standards are higher.

    What??? I'd say a lot of games right now are crap because they focus on graphics...

    14 hour game of Civilization Beyond Earth as a means to relax. Here it is... 5 a.m... I need to go to bed. Mehhhhhhhh.... How is it possible to design games to keep me playing that long!?

    I had to uninstall civ 4 long ago for that very reason. Game was really fun but that "one last turn couldn't hurt" stuff actually could.

    Why isn't Economics mandatory teaching in all schools across the world? It would solve a lot of the "poor vs rich" mentality the uneducated about the subject have. It would also save me a few arguments on Youtube when I have to explain why currency even exists...

    If people don't understand why money exists, then yes they probably should at least read about it because this is what most people are working hard everyday for. I'm not sure what problems it would actually solve though.

    I agree, economics should definitely be mandatory, even if people are prone to their biases. I just think it's a shame that, like everything else taught in school, there will always be kids who take their education for granted and don't appreciate these concepts.

    The math is .7 to the 10th power for probability of no lands 10 draws in a row, which is .028..., so actually 3%.

    Well, these runs are happening more than 3% of the games I've played (I've played only like 12 games and it's happened in 7 of them).

    Whenever someone cites statistics (developers, companies, individual human beings), you know they're inflating whatever it is they're trying to prove with those statistics. You can use statistics to prove anything. This makes them very dangerous lies.

    During my statistics course, my teacher entertained us every lecture with a new statistical blunder done by the press. Every week at least case of the press mangling up the math producing simple false statistics. It was not biased nor inaccurate. No, it was just plain wrong.

    @mlogan: Statistics is an excellent tool for trying to reason in scenarios of uncertainties. Yes, including when you know that you cannot take all associated variables into account.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.

Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
