  • tfw, after your game being intensively played by many people, after 5 years, patch after patch released, suddenly an innocent person reported another bug.

Did you actually think they had all been found? :headshake:

Unless it breaks the game, just call it an undo***ented feature, and give the person a 'Star Trek' prize for going where no man (, woman or orc) has gone before :)

It doesn't break the game, it doesn't crash, it just ... have an unintended funny consequence :guffaw:

then it's definitely an undo***ented feature!
That moment when you hyped for mini game contest bcz you just have the right mechanic idea, only to realize you're using VXAce.

@ImaginaryVillain in this short span of the event, it is about familiarity. I'm more familiar with VXA to get things done, and I did things faster when I write a script (or script call) than choosing event commands. Oh also, mv map editor sucks.
    ImaginaryVillain
    ImaginaryVillain
You mean you don't want to learn an entire new scripting language just for a meaningless badge next to your name? :kaomad2: Haha, entirely fair. And yes, MV's map editor is an abomination. I just use Krita and I setup a brush to paint ground tiles and I copy/paste objects. Though MV does have a Tiled plugin if you want to use that editor instead.
    TheoAllen
    TheoAllen
Using a separate editor is inconvenient. Also, I have already released 2 plugins for MV, if you missed those :v (although, I abandoned one of them)
We need an isekai open world game where you, the mc, is a hero summoned from another world and has a cheat ability at your disposal.
Wondering if it would be okay to link script do***entation to an external site because script comments for instruction is limited for a complex script.
Am I the minority who don't care about steam achievements, trading cards, steam level, and adding friends in steam? They just seems useless. I just want to play the game, not get extras.

100% with you.... i want the game... not these weird things that broadcast ive spent that much time obsessing over it enough to even get said achievments.

Same, but I also know that many people consider the lack of achivements/cards deal breakers.
I doubt they care about the game, to be honest, but that's still a lost sale for the developer.

I think achievements can be nice, particularly in non-linear or sandbox-type games, for direction when feeling less creative. Some of the badges/emotes are pretty, too, but not a priority. :)
Tip: if you're not coffee addict, don't try one. It will just mess up your whole sleeping schedule :|

But what if my sleep schedule is already messed up due to RPG Maker/Civ/CK2 all nighters? Will coffee loop me back around?

I can't sleep without my caffeine. Just get painful headaches that don't seem to go away even with painkillers. Guess I'm an addict. lol.

other devs: *carefully plan the battle balance (with actual calculation in sheet)* | Me: *randomly throws numbers and skills to see which works*
    TheoAllen

The thing is I don't even plan how my character interacts with boss battles. Let's give the actor cool skills and give the boss cool patterns. Now, let's play the game. It is something that always keeps me entertained to battle test.
    Yeseylon
    Yeseylon
And that's definitely a fair way to do it. The end goal is a battle that feels balanced, and all the spreadsheets in the world can't promise a good feel.

"...I don't even plan how my character interacts with boss battles. Let's give the actor cool skills and give the boss cool patterns. Now, let's play the game."

Yeah, in all seriousness, this has always been my own approach and last year someone paid me hundreds of actual US dollars to help design and balance their RM game's battles (still pinching myself over that) so I gotta say, it must be a valid approach.

And they are often stupidly weak, take the longest path possible (if they're not breathing down your character's neck that is), sometimes won't fight back at all, and take forever to get to where they're going. Escort quests\missions suck in all games I've found them in. They're almost as bad as time limits.
    Yeseylon
    Yeseylon
I like time limits when done properly...

But we've also already established that I'm a little weird.
Saying overused tropes are bad is like saying I - IV - V - I chord progression is bad.

E.g. When you watched too much Isekais and started to trash them because they are (mostly) the same generic sh1t that aren't actually bad on their own.

Well it's not bad, but it is boring. As an academic work tho, it would be bad (music professors hate 1-4-5 lol).

I learned enough about music theory from my dad to ALMOST get this analogy.

Why most of games like to give a horrible control to an aircraft vehicle? can I get a simplified control that does not require me to roll first just to change my direction?
    TheoAllen
    TheoAllen
Well, realism can go to hell because we can actually nitpick everything that is not realist enough in-game. There are a few games that I know that handle aircraft (or spacecraft) better and why they can't be like that.

We have enough realism with real life haha
    Yeseylon

It still has to feel natural to the player. Could always give the simplified controls, but the animation causes you to tilt before turning.
When arguing about coding, putting "I've been coding for x years" does not mean anything to me. Put some context and fact, and I will appreciate it more than your coding experience.

Just accept it. Youre nothing on your own and you'll never acomplish anything until you get 2 or 3 other characters with different personalities and compatible skills to follow you around and chat with you.

Could play a twist on it—the power of a character who's given the perfect antagonist?—every time the main character runs into their reoccurring villain, they're always wearing armor that makes them vulnerable to whatever elemental doodad they found in that dungeon?

Desktop version's better, but you should also close and reopen it every few days to avoid slowdown.
PSA: Syntax highlight in dark mode looks terrible. Please put your code with NO highlight at all at this time being until it's fixed (this can be fixed, right?).
    TheoAllen
    TheoAllen
@Windows i7 what's funny is that choosing the syntax highlight requires more click than just insert the code without being highlighted. And it isn't even that urgent to highlight it. The only explanation of this habit is that choosing the highlight is just because "feels cooler".

You know, I sometimes ponder if working on the story and details is more necessary than the game itself. Its... technically work, just not direct.

Like for me specifically I never stop evolving the story based on what avenues I can approach in gameplay and then I get anxious thinking "hey good thing I thought about that now instead of later". Repeat ad nauseam.

I wonder if there's ever been an art challenge that involves drawing faces from the generator.
