  • Saying overused tropes are bad is like saying I - IV - V - I chord progression is bad.

They're only bad if used poorly. Tropes work, and people tend to enjoy them.

E.g. When you watched too much Isekais and started to trash them because they are (mostly) the same generic sh1t that aren't actually bad on their own.

Well it's not bad, but it is boring. As an academic work tho, it would be bad (music professors hate 1-4-5 lol).
Why most of games like to give a horrible control to an aircraft vehicle? can I get a simplified control that does not require me to roll first just to change my direction?

That said, Just Cause 3 (I think it was 3, maybe 4) ridiculously exaggerates the turn radius you can get from the wing FLAPS to the point where I think it'd work just like you want, you're able to steer left-to-right and make tight turns w/o any rolling. Totally absurd and absurd looking if you know the slightest bit about aircraft (as is a rocket booster on a helicopter, for instance), but very convenient!

Well, realism can go to hell because we can actually nitpick everything that is not realist enough in-game. There are a few games that I know that handle aircraft (or spacecraft) better and why they can't be like that.

We have enough realism with real life haha
When arguing about coding, putting "I've been coding for x years" does not mean anything to me. Put some context and fact, and I will appreciate it more than your coding experience.

... I was about to reply "Try the script in the fresh project and see if you still have the issue" to humor this.

Unpopular opinion: The power of friendship trope is so stupid, but I never get bored of it.

Just accept it. Youre nothing on your own and you'll never acomplish anything until you get 2 or 3 other characters with different personalities and compatible skills to follow you around and chat with you.

Could play a twist on it—the power of a character who's given the perfect antagonist?—every time the main character runs into their reoccurring villain, they're always wearing armor that makes them vulnerable to whatever elemental doodad they found in that dungeon?

I think so? I have to close it and reopen it every so often.

Desktop version's better, but you should also close and reopen it every few days to avoid slowdown.
PSA: Syntax highlight in dark mode looks terrible. Please put your code with NO highlight at all at this time being until it's fixed (this can be fixed, right?).
    TheoAllen

@Windows i7 what's funny is that choosing the syntax highlight requires more click than just insert the code without being highlighted. And it isn't even that urgent to highlight it. The only explanation of this habit is that choosing the highlight is just because "feels cooler".

Syntax highlighting is used to improve readability.

    TheoAllen
But is it that urgent to "improve readability"?
Now that it's been a decade. Here's my 10 years of improvement of my unreleased (and embarrassing) 'noise'.
Going to refactor 6k lines of code. This is going to be something.

You're so brave. Is this before or after seeing in the new year? Could be very interesting.

    Good luck!

To put a context, it's my battle system. I was trying to ignore all these times, but the moment I dev my game and expand the features, the more I applied more patches to fix things and workaround that should not be an issue to the point I really consider to fix the base code itself (it was my work in 2014-2015 after all).

So, to answer your question, it was long before the new year, but it's probably going to be my new year resolution :D
    Thanks!

Arms race in a nutshell. It's possible, but I would always ask "why?" first
When you're too skilled and you traced the bug directly to the code just to realize that you just had a wrong setup in the database and nothing was wrong in the code.

Reasons why programmers encrypt their code: 1. "I don't want people to steal my code" | 2. "I'm ashamed of my own code, please don't look!"

I don't bother encrypting my code, but if I did, it would be for the second reason.

Good thing in C++ is, you don't need to encrypt your code. If someone decompiles it and it looks ugy, you can bame the decompiler. :D
    SrOscuro
    SrOscuro
Instead of encription, you can code your game in pure assembly. It is not necessary to encrypt. Removing comments is enough.

While I take a break from developing RPGs, I'm thinking of doing something I've never done before: actually playing an RPG released by someone else. Any suggestions?
Good lord this is taking forever, I'm not even out of the opening really and I've still got hours worth of work to do before I get to the main gameplay loop. Orphan of Time will probably be done some time next year, If I'm lucky.
Finally the new pc is working!! But it seems a lost my license to Windows 10 because of the hardware changing :(
