  • Been awhile since I've posted! Anyone have any cool music mixes for rpg making? Here's a nice one I wanted to share:
Had a bit of time to work on my game last night. What do other people use as battler placeholders? My favorite at the moment is a chicken :)

omg... YES! I'll make that change when I get home. Why didn't I think about that?!

I use a slime named placeholder or punching bag, with 1 HP and 1 in all stats. That way it is there just to have a placeholder where a battle is, and I update it later.

So I assume you guessed it right then xD
You didn't think about it because you're yet to see the true power and dread of the devil masquerading as a peaceful farm animal.
So, I took a bunch of screenshots in order to recreate all my enemies due to heights error...And the screenshots were lost/never saved...

@mishakoc I read somewhere that it might be an editor version mismatch (my game is 1.5.2 but my editor was 1.6.x), but I addressed that and still get the error. Then I tried deleting all my enemies and starting over. Still in the middle of this, if it doesn't work then I'll probably make a post about it.

I see. Steam auto upgrading the editor is sure annoying and causes more problems than it solves. Did you upgrade the project to be 1.6.2 or downgraded the editor back using an older back-up instead of the current build?
Good luck with trying to work this one out.

@mishakoc oh I tried both lol ultimately I locked it in 1.5.2 b/c 1.6.2 broke quite a few of my plugins and I didn't want to have to go triaging all of that. I'd rather fight one particular bug than the unknown lol I still haven't had the time to dive back in yet but I think I will be able to Thursday. I'll let you know if I end up solving it or setting my game on fire ;)
Nothing like starting your week with an early morning dental appointment lol

Yeah, that's pretty rough (especially if they're doing dental work and not just a checkup!). Keep something really fun or otherwise pleasing on the horizon, and just keep your eyes on that as you get through the week. :)

Yeah there was drilling and some science, but I survived... this time. Better to knock it out now than suffer later though. The fun thing I've got my eye on is a new build for a game I've been working on. I'll hopefully be posting about it in the next day or two. Thanks for the well wishes :)

Right on. Better to be aggressive in dealing with your own health. Sounds like you've got a solid plan for keeping that good mindset up.
Harvest moon on Friday the 13th.. Are prophecies about to be fulfilled tonight or is this the start of a B-Movie horror?
You ever think up a really cool/unique idea that you think is going to be HUGE and then find it's long running light novel series & anime?

Making an open-world RPG sounds really tedious and like a lot of work. (but amazing at the same time)

I'm still debating on how I'd implement it. Open world rpg = tons of work, so I figured I'd probably have some sort of set framework and drop each sword on top of it like a module or a quest. Then I'd have some method of determining time, perhaps increase the variable after you successfully deal with one of swords. After that, it's all conditional branches & variable boss stats :)

You say conditional branches as if they are easy to manage. I mean it'll be a ton of conditional branches.
Feeling down today. Ended up taking off "sick". I want to work on the game but maybe I should just play some DQ11 & get my mind right...
Dawned on me just how much more work I need to put into my game... One thing at a time. I'll eventually finish as long as I don't stop.

I feel you, lol. I tried making a to-do list and it got so long that I just laughed and said 'ok so for now whatever part I'm in the mood for'.

@Vaena same lol anything is better than nothing. I still make sure to work on stuff from said list though. New ideas go to the backlog. I want the game to be done at some point after all.

Doing a VN here and I am the sole artist, writer, and coder so it's... taking a bit, haha. I'm having fun, though, which is really what matters I suppose. At least it makes it so I can jump around if code aggravates me, if I get writer's block, or if I just don't feel like drawing that thing-a-ma-jig today.
You ever find yourself game developing at your local starbucks alittle too much? I'm starting to get weird looks from the staff... lol.

@The Stranger, it's like Seinfeld once said "I bought a cup of coffee and now I live here." haha but yeah I re-up ever hour or so. Buy another round or some snack.
@BloodletterQ, I've only had two people actually come over and ask what I work on every day. One was like "oh..." & left. The other was like "Cool! Let me know when you're done, I'd like to play it."

@The Stranger This has to be me. Everyday. I DO buy coffee every now and again, but for the most part, not unless I have the urge for COFFEE. The tables are pretty large and i've seen people buy coffee and take up 3x the amount of space I do. So I guess it's different for everyone. P.S. Starbucks IS my office. :)
Spent 2 weeks trying to come up w/ monsters for my game... nothing. I sit down with a 5E Monster Manual for an hr & now I have ~100 monsters

personally, I try to think of the heroes of a story I write it before I think about the villains.
    Traveling Bard
    Traveling Bard
@Benny Jackdaw I start with skills or abilities that I think would be fun, wrap a character around that, and then I write a whole bunch of skills to counter those hero skills... and a few that the hero skills counter (to make the player feel smart). The problem is that all I have is concepts, not monsters. The MM gave me ideas to throw my concepts into. But thanks for the advice :)
About to go in for oral surgery. Gonna be a long few days of recovery... maybe I'll spend the time working on monster design.

@OmnislashXX, then I shall be a bard of letters! At least until the swelling goes down.
@Sharm, seems scarier going in then it actually is. Thanks for all the advice!
    Sharm

Yeah, it can be scary, especially if you've never done anything like it before. In my experience being put under is actually underwhelming. The stick a needle in your arm, tell you to count backwards and you'll just start to feel a little sleepy and then wake up with everything done.
    Sharm
    Sharm
The worst part of oral surgery is the pain of recovery, which is more of an annoyance pain than a "make it stop" sort. Annoyance is probably going to be the main emotion, really. It's the little things that you can't do that will bug you the most. So it's not fun but it's an every day sort of not fun, if that makes any sense.
*Shakes fist at Text and Choice logic* Tried to make re-usable Choices but alas, Text and Choice must be bound together. /sigh
Working on a game I've decided to release a demo build for the release event. Scope creep is real...lol we have 11 days left, right?!

finally got this scripted right lol... I was running into a few issues like getting the event to play when all enemies were ko'd, actors going in and out of their victory poses, etc... still need to tweak a bit tho.
Which version should I get? 2000, 2003, XP, VX, VX Ace, or MV. I'm a beginner and have no coding knowledge and also I wanna be able to add voices.
I'm just gonna remove the Dark Spells from my game. They wouldn't be fighting Gods or Angels. So why have it?
