  • Well time to go find wherever my shovel; in hindsight I probably should have got it out yesterday. If I don't make it back tell my game ideas I loved them.
Totally wish I could accurately punch myself in the face. Was wondering why my secret boss monster wouldn't use his special move; I checked everything, even looked to see if I somehow sealed the special skill type. Wouldn't you know somehow the skill got accidentally set to only use-able from menu.

Ha ha, that's me. That is literally me. And to punch yourself in the face accurately, just shout at yourself. Has the same effect.  :D

I'll have to try it, in front of a mirror of course. At least now I can wrap up my secret boss and move on with the final dungeon for my game. Something to report in the monthly thread!

Don't you love those moments when you figure stuff out. BD
I've selected TGH by wr41thx to try out next on my countdown to Halloween. It seems to be some sort of interpretive horror game that is better experienced than described.

Take a look if you are interested:

In another news, woke up with my back in a knot; probably my bad computer posture. You never know though, maybe I slept in my coffin wrong.
Going to be checking out SugarZooZoo's Halloween party OS today, on my countdown to Halloween game playing. Its a short mini-game adventure rpg that makes use of Sharm's lovely retro halloween tileset and the old school modern set by Des. It seems to have that Halloween quirkiness I love in these types of games. Go give the thread some love if you are interested:

Looks nice. I wonder how difficult the puzzles are though. Still looks like an awesome game. Have fun!
Well, my goal of getting a game done by Halloween won't likely be happening; probably won't have it done til early november. What's a vampire to do? Play some spooky RM games, to kick off the countdown to Halloween!

First one I'm going to talk a look at is user Nirwanda's Pathway Desire+ An interesting looking short role-playing game that uses custom graphics to get an old school retro look. Give the thread a look by if it intrigues you.

So much to do so little time. I've got to do list a mile long lol! I going to try and not focus on one single project and branch out a little and try some new things.
Ma-Ma-Ma-Mapping! That's what I'm up to in my project, what is everybody else working on?

@Taarachnia That's a nice find; Open Game Art is a really cool site, admittedly I've yet to really use or explore anything from it though.

@Vampire Vox I'll be honest, Open Game Art has a LOT of crap on it. I don't even mean stuff that's just someone's work through learning how to make graphics - I mean things like a lopsided circle with lines eyes and it's a portrait, right? Ugh. Much sifting required. However, you really can strike gold. I feel like I did with the character graphics, and editing them has actually been a lot of fun. I'm surprised by how easy a lot of it is, too.
Got to love it when a boss comes together!

Except when the boss is not correctly balanced yet. The boss comes... and destroy you ! :D
There's one more game, which has an amazing soundtrack, I thought you might like:

Chilling; clearly I need to expand my gaming catalog.
    The Stranger
Unfortunately, The Darkness 1 is only on Ps3 and Xbox 360, they never ported it to PC. :( It's an awesome game, though. It reminded me of VTMB, so I loved it instantly; VTMB if it wasn't an RPG, and you were a New York Italian hitman which was posessed by a primordial entity made of pure darkness.

Read through the comments on that page, and the very first one (brimming with emotion) was ruined by a bot trying to convince people to work from home.

Well that's what spam bots and internet trolls are for right. Sucks but at least its clear this was a very respected man; the game industry and businesses in general could use a lot more people like him.
Anybody got any soundtrack recommendations from older role-playing games? Started listening to music while game developing. Any suggestions are welcome, just nothing obvious like Final fantasy as I'm well aware of popular games.

@Matseb2611 Doesn't really have to be rpgs but since that was my favorite genre, I figured I'd use the opportunity to get familiar with some of them I hadn't played. Some Castlevania music would probably be pretty appropriate given the time of year, lol.

    Listen to this track:

I love it! The game is pretty good, too.

I'm listening (again) to the soundtrack for Journey. I might also listen to Distant Worlds (final fantasy music recorded at live concerts) or Video Games Live. Always such good music.
When I read people on facebook going on and on about how fangames should be allowed and nintendo is just being jerks or stuck-up, etc...Not to mention this latest incident is a rom-hack even and risks even condoning piracy. I get as a gamer you want to play great games and it sucks when that opportunity is lost but would you want someone breaking into your house, stealing your stuff and saying it was okay because they didn't intend to profit off of it?

All those comments that ostracize nintendo make me feel  :barf: .

I'm on the fence about fangames. On one hand, I agree with Dalph that if you're going to put the time and effort into creating a game, it's better to build your own world instead of using someone else's. Be original, because everything these days is remakes and remasters and honestly it's getting tedious.

On the other hand, I can understand how people get so enamored with a fictional universe that they want to start expanding it. Plus, legalities aside, I'm of the mind that people should just mind their own business and leave each other alone. If someone wants to spend their time making a fangame, yeah I might think it's a dumb idea, but I'm not going to waste my time preaching against it.

Anyway, I think people are critical of Nintendo (sometimes unfairly, I agree) because they have a tendency to pull some greedy moves. Lately they've fallen into the habit of releasing old games over and over again, and they don't even let you transfer them between platforms. If I can download Super Mario World on both my Wii U and my 3DS, why do I have to buy it twice? Why can't they just link the game to my Nintendo account? Maybe there's a legit reason behind it, but it looks greedy.

Then, of course, you have Nintendo exclusives like Fire Emblem Fates that quickly go from "this game is going to be amazing" to "this game is a complete gd mess" because it's filled with micro-transactions and paywalls. That kind of thing really rustles people's jimmies. Throw in some news stories about Nintendo shutting down some poor, innocent nerd's fangame, and people start raging. Yes, Nintendo is just protecting their IP, but these people don't see it that way because they're already pretty peeved.

For me when I draw my characters they never turn out really good, so I use other people's characters and create something from that. But I can create an original scenario using characters and story that is already laid out. It would have to be free of course. I use manga and learn to draw the characters till I can produce them. It's hard drawing your own characters when you still are trying to grasp the concepts of muscles and body shapes. Plus creating an original story is hard too.

I feel for fans as it is difficult for some to draw yet they are still knowledgeable to create a game, but, dumping games onto pcs so they can steal the artwork, sounds, etc. is just wrong. If the stealing continues then the all of us will suffer when the original artists decide not to create anything. Hopefully they will create more games like mario maker so they can create something. Plus most rpg makers have tons of art, sounds, etc people can use to create their own games.

I am currently doing a Fan ending for Bleach. I am using Kubo's characters and story but I am changing the story to fit my tastes.

@I Was A Teenage Euphwolf I agree plus game makers aren't listening to the people any more. They create awesome graphic games with little story. I think Final Fantasy 6 was my favorite game and the graphics did not have to be next gen for it to be awesome.

Imagination is the key here. Someone may come up with a better way to use someone else's  work and change it to something better. Think Dragonball Multiverse.
Anybody interested in the mini-NES plug in play console? I think its a fair deal especially since Nintendo likes to make you repay for classic virtual games all the time for every new console/handheld upgrade.

Hey Nintendo, can I ask you a favor...

...STOP ASKING ME TO BUY THE SAME GAMES OVER AND OVER ON EACH SYSTEM!

    Thanks,

someone who does not want to buy link to the past for the 30th time, but wants to only need one system in the room.

    Neat idea though.

@Vox Novus No, no, that's not my issue. The cord, from console to player, is 3 feet long. How many of you sit three feet from your TV? How many of you have it mounted on a wall/have a projector, making that not even really an option?
    Vox Novus
    Vox Novus
@AwesomeCool Totally agree with you nintendo is terrible with that, at least this offers an option you don't have to worry about re-buying all the same old classics again.

@taarna23 oh got you, good point. Guess I hadn't thought about that my tv in my room is practically right next to my bed so not an issue and living room tv is near a couch. I could see how that would be troublesome though for some people.

I guess I'm done making a blue squirrel's life difficult for posting new threads on different forums.
That's just for today so don't get used to this, squirrel-ish friend! :p
Got new hard drive, now trying to install the softwares I lost to the dead drive, and more than half of them won't install because they're already installed on the dead drive, and uninstallers won't run because they can't find where their programs are installed. So I take it having a drive die on you screws you in more ways than just data loss. >:\
PC got fixed finally. Back online again. Turns out I have no business trying to self repair pcs because it was getting to like 176F / 80C. Shop installed a totally new cooling system and now it runs fine and is super quiet.
When you're making major progress, but have to stop to go to work.
