  • The most recent sign that I am old. I have done martial arts for over 4 decades. Never HAD to stretch out. Good, of course, but never required. Was doing some kicks in the kitchen because, why not, and I felt a pop in the back of my thigh. Now I am limping around. Gotta love getting old.

Definitely not calling myself old yet, but I am "not completely injury immune" years old. I did a really bad dead lift but I was 23 at the time so I just stuck to cardio for a few days after. A couple months ago I simply bent over to pick up a dirty sock from the floor and that disc I irritated a decade ago just up and finally slipped. Took weeks of physio to get it back in LMAO.
You can search the internet. It seems fine to call children little petri dishes. My wife and I raised 4 of them and they brought everything home. But apparently calling students plague bearers is a bridge too far. :LZSlol:

So, what your saying is that children are followers of Nurgle? :troll:

I prefer to call them ''Spawns of Satan'' its more fitting xD

I had to look up "Nurgle", but that seems sort of fitting. Maybe Spawns of Nurgle. I have also heard Spawns of Satan, but that is putting too much blame on poor Satan. In my classes I usually just refer to children in general as Little Ankle Biters. Anyone watch Jim Hensen's The Dinosaurs? NOT THE MAMA!

Back from my short, self-imposed timeout with another picture of my collection of Snorlax mascots for my class. Another class starts on Friday.

Do you think your students are trying to tell you something?

@Kes If anything it would be my family. The only one my students ever bought me was the giant one. I have been a Snorlax devotee since Pokemon originally came out and my kids were little. So they are always buying me related things like t-shirts, mugs, and, as you can see, figures or plushies. But my students do seem to appreciate my Snorlax obsession fealty.
It’s nice when you can actually see your own progress. There was a time when the concept of arrays was so confusing. Now, I can use length, pop, push, shift, unshift, join, concat, slice, sort, and reduce. Granted I can’t do it from memory, but that still seems like progress. Fun with Arrays!
Decided to experiment with different ways to roll attributes D&D style. After researching, who knew there were so many varieties? I have 12 different ways that don't require player choices/selection and multiple more that lets the player assign the results. I am testing to see how the methods compare as far as range of results. I have made 4 so far and going strong! FUN!

Neat! I'd be interested to hear all the ways you researched , I can only think of about 5 ways off the top of my head.

I found a D&D article for 5e I think. It highlighted 10, I found a few more, and then I modified some. When I am done I will make a tutorial and highlight all the ways for anyone who is interested.
If you need to hear this. You are magnificent. You are beautiful. You are unique. No one else is exactly like you. Never was, never will be. You are different today from yesterday. You will be different tomorrow. The question is how will you be different? Always be your perfect self.
Psssstttt! Not to make anyone feel old, but some people on this forum have been using RPG Maker versions longer than some other people on this forum have even been alive. Just let that sink in for a moment as I fade into the shadows to get some old person snacks and yell at some kids on my lawn.

Another class graduates today. This is what my Seminar got me. It goes with my other Snorlax mascots in the classroom. Two week break before the next class starts.

before there was Chillax, there was Snorlax.
if you've Snorlaxed before Chillaxing was a thing, you know what's up.

You know you are old when you realize there are adults who can honestly say they have never lived in a world without Pokémon and you’re like…But Pokémon haven’t been around that lo…..oh.
Ok, feeling pretty excited! I have struggled with how to convert any of my many book projects into a game because I don't want to make a Visual Novel or something with a bunch of cut scenes, yet the story already exists. But it finally hit me how I could take some of the worlds that I have created and make a new story for a game, without compromising something I already wrote. We will see.
Playing through my first Visual Novel game and although I guess I am enjoying the story, I am disappointed there isn’t any choices or decision points. I’m not sure I fully appreciate the appeal of staring at a few different pictures of characters while a read text.

It's not just the pictures and effects, but especially voice acting and music that bring it to life (though almost no indie dev has the resources for large scale voice acting, which already cuts the appeal). I've been drawn into the story of a few good visual novels much more deeply than into the story of any book (though I do have aphantasia, which might affect things too).

Have you heard of the term "Kinetic Novel"?
    ZombieKidzRule
    ZombieKidzRule
@TheoAllen I had not, but I just looked it up and that must be what I am reading. I haven't paid much attention to VNs generally so I sort of thought they were all the same. Thanks for teaching me that new term/sub genre!
For anyone who needs this. Several decades ago my employer introduced Operating Agreements for personal interactions. Assume Good Intent. Seek Valid Information. Practice Self Awareness. Not always easy, but extremely useful.

Meanwhile a buddy of mine was fired today for a snarky reply to a poop joke that was aimed at him after he stepped out of the bathroom. He was deemed "uncooperative with other employees".
    Not all standards measure equally.

That is unfortunate. Which is why it is important that standards of conduct and behavior expectations need to be applied equally and consistently to all involved In any particular incident and interaction.

You know, they say that, but often time they only say that without acting on it.
Students taking their 3rd of 4 exams this morning. So I get to stare at them for several hours, watching for any signs of cheating and hoping that they all do well. Hopefully some of them do better than they did on the practice test yesterday afternoon.

There are two kinds of teachers, those who let cheating and those who are not :) And those who are really aren't.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the mothers out there! Or, you might also consider this to be the Celebrating Little Ankle Biter Eviction Day...I guess it depends on your perspective. I hope you all have an awesome day. And for those who aren't mothers...CALL YOUR MOTHER!

I almost forgot to say that it just so happens to be my wife's 33rd anniversary today too. Mine too if you think about it. So today will be extra special!

It was also just brought to my attention that Mother's Day actually falls on different days for some countries. Who knew! Apparently, not me, but I just looked it up!
I know my memory isn't what it used to be and I am constantly asking my students if I have told them something already or not (classes tend to blend together). But going back to watch your own tutorials to remember how to do something is leveling up in the memory degradation game, I think. :LZSlol:
This is what the Icon Sudoku puzzle looks like completed. I kind of like it more than the number version. What do you think?

As a theory I like it a lot.
Looking at it as a player, however, I'm not so sure. Having to handle symbols so radically different from numbers with all the mental gymnastics that sudoku involves will make it a lot more challenging to complete. e.g. I can instantly find a 2 in an ordinary sudoku, but I don't have that instant recognition for the flail.
    TheoAllen
    TheoAllen
If you replace numbers with symbols, I suggest you take the Hogwarts Legacy approach. If you want to represent number 1, use a unicorn. To represent the number 3, use Cerberus, etc. In your approach, the shield has no resemblance to the number 7.

Thanks for these comments! This started mostly as a "can I do this" sort of thing and expanded. And I originally thought having something other than numbers might increase the challenge of the puzzle. Sort of like initially learning Sudoku can be challenging because it is new. I think playing with different colors might help to so differences stand out more. Very interesting to experiment with!
Well, we kick off another new class today. I teach virtually for about 7 days and then the students arrive on campus for another 5 weeks. Our students range from early 20s where this is their first jobs all the way to folks who have retired and are starting a new career. Very interesting teaching the different generations together.
Updated Sudoku Experiments. Added a Timer and Score feature. Started converting the puzzle to allow you to select an Icon and then select a square to place the Icon. I like that much better. Huge thanks to @Avery for the awesome Icons!

imgur sure is getting weird, one day I lose gradually all my images, the other I get them back randomly and then again they disappear again.
Despite OPT2 praise it still has some strange stories in it. Lady Mikka is trying to work herself to death because of guilt. Guilt over what? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So instead of finding a NPC to have a heart to heart with her they decide the cure is a new kimono. So when she drops dead she'll at least be well dressed. I haven't even got to the strange part yet.
Did so much work on the game today. I wish I could post it all in this status update but there is a character limit of course haha. I thought about making a topic for updates, though... maybe.

One of the biggest perks of being fluent in English is how many new and interesting recipes I am able to find and try out that I would have hardly come across if I just spoke my mothertounge :3
