Ok, sorry for this rapid 2nd status post, but I just tested a concept I was thinking of for the Game Jam and I am ridiculously pleased with myself for being able to make this work and surprised at how easy it is. I am now moving on to try to get the appearance I actually want with the real text. Here is a quick video of the effect.
Apparently I game dev the same way I write. I keep going back and adding new stuff to earlier parts. As an example of how bad it can get, I once started a book, that turned into a trilogy, and what I thought was the opening scene for the 1st book somehow became the opening scene for the 2nd book. Where will this idea take me today?
For anyone who didn't see my post yesterday, let's just say that I tried to make a plugin and it went horribly wrong. I was so far off base I think I was in another ballpark. But hey, I still learned a couple of things. Even if one of them was to leave the plugin stuff to the experts and big boys/girls/people of pluginy persuasion.
Rare 2nd Status Post: I do everything the most complicated way possible at first. I was just experimenting with fading in a picture by using the Show Picture command with a tiny Wait and changing the Opacity. When it finally looked right, I realized I could use a Loop & script to condense everything down to just a couple lines in the Event instead of hundreds of lines. DOH! But hey, I learned something new.
So the concept for my Game Jam project is way more than I can complete before the deadline. But I think I found a way to get the core done and make the incomplete parts either not really noticeable or make them a part of the story for now. That sneaky, dastardly Krampus! Then I can complete the rest. Did I mention that this is fun?
My vision for the game jam is taking shape. Spent the last couple of days trying to find art assets. That is my biggest limitation. I didn't know I needed Christmas themed icons until now. But I am learning new things again and excited to experiment again so that makes me very happy. Good luck, everyone!
Super excited! Thanks to @mantaslukocius my zombie kids have Santa hats! And I haven't been motivated to do anything in MZ for a few months. But now I have an AWESOME idea for the Christmas Game Jam. It will be my first jam so I am stoked! Oh, it's on now. Just have to figure out how to work Zombies into the game now.
Started my vacation on 11/21/23 and won’t go back to work until 1/8/24. So I am taking the rest of the year off. After 33 years of government service, I get 26 regular days and 13 sick days each year. What WILL I do with my free time?
Last class of the year graduates today. I didn’t teach them because I have been detailed to work on curriculum revision for our future version of our course. Which is good because I needed a break. Some of the students were starting to get on my nerves a bit.
Since most of my mental free time is away from my computer time, it is nice to finally be at a point where I can think of something I want to try to event and then do most of the eventing in my head before ever turning on my computer. I can't believe it has only been about 2 years since I bought MZ, but I have definitely learned a lot since then and still having fun!
For all those countries that have a similar concept and those who don't, Happy Veteran's Day to all those who served their countries and their families who supported them. Service to your country doesn't mean you always agree with the politics and decisions of said country. As a 3rd generation veteran, I honor you all for your service.
Just realized how long it has been since I really visited the forum. Got distracted with actually playing games for a bit. Here is another picture one of my students drew from the Washington Avenue classroom.
Internet has been out for almost 3 days at my house now. No estimate on repair. I don’t think they even know what the problem is. Only impacting 12 houses in the neighborhood. Luckily my work cell has enough signal so I can hot spot. Slowly. Personal cell, not so much.
Mini Heart Attack! Sudden message on my work computer. Your network access has been block for security reasons. Call Security Operations. Your email was connected to a Classified Data Spill. DOH! Luckily, not my fault. Someone else sent something they shouldn't. Now I can't work because my computer needs to be wiped, they already wiped my phone remotely, and local offices are closed for a hurricane. So, yeah.
150+ students traveled to our academy on Sunday from all across the country. Yesterday, at noon, everyone was told, including the instructors, that all the students are being sent back home due to the approaching hurricane. 3 travel people had to try to make last minute travel arrangements for 150+ students yesterday afternoon. A fun time was had by all.
Update: Coworker sabotaged the truck's mirrors by applying a threadlocking compound to the bolts used to adjust the mirrors. Now NO ONE can adjust them. So I filed a legit report of sabotage of equipment to leadership and declared that I cannot safely operate the vehicle if I can't see what needs to be seen. So the truck has to go to the shop for repair, and we need a substitute vehicle. Nice work, dude
