There are a lot of things that CAN have the same symptoms as a heart attack, so don't panic, but if you do feel those symptoms and can't easily explain it - get someone to drive you to the hospital, or call 911 if you don't have anyone.
It was chest pains which lead into an asthma flare up followed by a panic attack. During the ambulance ride the anxiety wouldn't go away, thought the panic would escalate into shock, but after they gave me some oxygen it started to get better.
My heart & lungs are fine, the main problem was the anxiety & panic attack. It kept reoccurring a few times at the hospital. But the more I had to wait around (came in around 5:30pm, didn't get discharged until midnight), the more the anxiety kept building up, thought was literally going to go insane. The final diagnosis was GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).
All I could think about was how ****ed in the head I was & that this would never go away. But the anti-anxiety pill they gave me worked & I finally passed out at a decent time (not between 6-9am like usual). I don't know if am 'out of the woods' yet, only time will tell.
As someone who also suffers from asthma-like inflammation, as well as occasional panic attacks... I really do know how horrendous the experience is when they interact. You feel like your entire body is slipping away; the fear that you're dying is very real even though you will eventually be okay.
It wasn't until many years (and lots of visits to cardiologists and pulminologists) after the chest pains and breathing problems started, that I thought to try an Allergy/Asthma specialist. I'm so happy I did. We had to work through a couple different medications, but now I'm about 80% better from where I was.
So if you're getting those chest pains or asthmatic flare-ups more than rarely, checking with an Allergy/Asthma specialist something I'd definitely recommend as a next step. Don't wait years to figure it out like I did. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss medications that worked/didn't.
My asthma is still well controlled & rarely a problem. The real problem is on a mental level. Having GAD & Depression. Have had depression for a long while but it was nothing compared to the episode I had earlier today. It was like every positive emotion was being blocked.
