As Thomas Sanders says, "Could be gayer."

Would probably work perfectly fine, it could even share a part of the GxG fanbase but would probably attrakt a lot of new fans while missing out on many of the GxG ones. Boys love has a big fandom, but the character probably matter a lot. There's a lot of slash stuff for non romantic rpgs, just look at FF or Suikoden or whatever ;3

(well, non-romantic was a wrong term I guess, as FF focuses a lot on the main couple...)

Romances between women has always been more acceptable, and somewhat more frequently depicted, than romances between men in films and games. I wonder why? I mean, Bioware RPGs let you romance other men, but it's not really the same as having a pre-defined, fleshed out, gay character.

@The Stranger I've heard some people say that they can't write gay male characters because they're not gay, so I guess that's one reason it's uncommon... It does seem like an odd excuse to me though.

@hiddenone Yeah. I mean, you could just try to write it like any other romance. Besides, it doesn't stop them from writing romances between women. xD

@The Stranger In that case, I have to assume they've decided on what they think their target audience really likes, and don't feel like experimenting.

I'm gay, and I'm pretty sure I could write a convincing enough straight romance.... but hey, I'm not gunna tell someone what they should write.

@Plueschkatze yeah, i was curious about whether there'd be a community interested in a romantic story between two guys. Clearly there must be, seeing the success in some other games like Dream Daddy, but you don't really see that kind of story outside of porn fetish games. At least I haven't seen any.

@The Stranger yep, certainly didn't stop me from writing Knight Bewitched! I apparently wrote that story good enough, which is why I'm legit wondering if writing a similar story between two men would attract an audience. I bet it'd at least be easier to get exposure for via certain media outlets.

@jkweath there are a lot of yaoi/boys love visual novels that aren't only about the erotic stuff. I think the games that are actually done by gay man might be the rarest, as there are quite a few by ladies that enjoy boys love, same probably goes for doujinshi and manga. ;3
