Two months now she's had fever, digestive problems and increasing weakness (she can barely get out of bed now) two months now we've been trying to schedule diagnostic tests. She's had 4 rounds of antivirals 3 blood tests and a covid test, and been recommended to 5 different doctors for further diagnostics by her primary care...

...but still no one will see her unless she's fever free for 14 days, makes me feel so helpless, watching her slowly sink into worse and worse health, and knowing that no one is willing to even try to give us answers. I wonder how many other people are in this same boat right now, how many deaths can be laid at the feet of flatten the curve zealotry rather than the virus itself at this point.

I'm not sure doctors can refuse to see a patient like that. Try asking your country's Council of Physicians.

It's literally the board of medical practice (our State's version of council of physicians) pandemic rules that are currently preventing her from getting treatment. True, I can cite a bunch of statutes explaining how such rules are blatantly illegal, but the same is true for mask laws, shutdown laws and a bunch of other rules that exist currently.

In a perpetual state of emergency, said legal protections really don't exist anymore in practical terms. Me advocating for my grandmother will just see me shut down by zealots who will accuse me of "killing grandma" for questioning pandemic practices that are literally killing my grandma, it's a self defeating cycle of hitting your head against a beureocratic brick wall reinforced by impulsive public sentiment.

@Philosophus Vagus, do you try to cross to another state? @cabfe, in the US, the hospital's main concern is the lawsuit. I am sure the doctor wants to help everyone, but they administer will remind him or her you are breaching the contract.

@Kupotepo I'm looking into it but the reality is my state is actually one of the least locked down states in the nation as it is. I think Florida and Georgia are the only two that are laxer, and I don't know if that extends to their medical practices. I don't know what to do.

Talking to an attorney this afternoon to see what legal recourse we can take, but I believe a lot of courts are limiting their sessions (especially civil cases) during all this as well, so there may not really be any recourse until the pandemic ends. I just don't know, I can tell she isn't going to last long untreated though. Only thing I can really do I guess is stay with her and see her through to the end.

@Philosophus Vagus, do you think the hospital just being a jerk? Then, go to another hospital and waste time with them. If you think it is her natural end life, then you should spend time with her. I understand this turbulence time because it just happens to make recently.

It's not the hospitals or the doctors, it's the rules imposed on them by the board which can and will revoke their medical licenses if they oppose them. Like I said, she's been referred to 5 different specialists at this point, they just won't see her, they can't see her currently until her fever breaks, if they wish to keep their practice, from what I've been lead to believe anyway.

@Philosophus Vagus, so you think it is your governor's stupid law and medical board? Then, documents everything and take pictures. If you would like to do the legal fight with your governor. If you want to do this, I recommend you do crowdfunding. I am pretty sure, other people have this problem too.

It's crazy. By the same logic, no positive case should be treated for actual Covid until healthy on his own... No, it's really crazy, who state that should be jailed.

Do everything you can to find a doctor who's willing to do house calls, and obviously have your grandma wear a mask as a precaution. Even if facilities won't allow her to come in, you might get lucky with a doctor who's willing to come see her. You're going to have to fight for it a little. But it's a real possibility.

Failing that, have your grandma do a video call or have someone go over and help out to do that call if she's too weak to do it. A good doctor might be able to catch combinations of symptoms and their cause that aren't common knowledge, even if they can't physically examine her. A crappy doctor won't, and will just recommend palliative stuff. I'm wishing you and her the best luck in getting through this.
