There is no justification. It's greed, plain and simple. I'd rather have to EARN my stuff, which is much more satisfying than spending money for them. I miss those days where you had to do just that and now they seem long gone.
If you honestly care about the future of video games and their development, do yourself a favor and boycott Cyberpunk 2077.
I hate microtransactions myself big time. I wish they would just raise the price of games $10 and remove microtransactions and stop pretending they are "still" $60 but then microtransaction us to death.
I promised myself as a game dev to never do microtransactions as I believe them to be predatory and dangerous towards the consumer especially if its attached to some sort of lootbox, gatcha mechanic.
It's the future! No one ever said the future was gonna be bright and happy; you'll have to pay for that separately. xD I don't like microtransactions, but they're clearly popular and very lucrative. I also don't like always online single player games, the release of broken, half baked games with enormous day one patches, and a whole host of other game industry practices.
Unfortunately, many seem to welcome these things with open arms. Sad times. I had no idea Cyberpunk had microtransactions. Just had to look it up. Apparently, the multiplayer (why is this even being included?) will have microtransactions, whilst the single player part won't. Guess they want a slice of Rockstar's GTA Online pie.
@bgillisp You wouldn't be the first. lol. It's silly that we live in a world where having no microtransactions is not only lauded, but is no longer the norm. We should be applauding great games, not the fact that a dev isn't giving into greed and nickle and diming their customers. It is what it is, I suppose.
Microtransactions have ruined more than few games that I have personally enjoyed over the years. However, certain micros do not bother me... such cosmetics. If the shop that is available is pretty much just cosmetics or small ease of life items, then I do not see a problem with microtransactions.
@cthulhusquid Sad but true. That's why some big studios and publishers are still pushing that whole GAAS crap. They don't want you to pay once and be done with it. They want you to pay again, and again, and again till you can pay no more. In the future, all games will be subscription based crap that you have to stream to your console. xD
As I have been told before, most people are just going to buy the game anyway so I think I am just wasting my time at this point. I might just end up admitting defeat and decide to buy the game anyway but even if I do, it still won't be at launch.
so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most.
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
