I have 'speed silver' switches. I do not recommend them, they actuate far too soon. i want to change to cherry brown or blue (love how obnoxious the blue clicks are <3)

I'm so glad you said that! Speed silver was the other one I was considering. I think I went with silent reds because I listened to a sound test and the silver were louder. My only worry is about bottoming out all the time, as I read it can cause strain, but I'm hoping it won't take me long to get used to it and avoid it.

Friend of mine has a Cherry MX. Only things I have hears him 'complain' about is the spacebar being wider then normal and less silent then other keys and the usb cable being thick and a little unflexibele. This is however second hand info so...

The space bar and cable would depend on the keyboard itself. Do you know what colour switches he has, and how he likes the feel and sound?

@?????? Speed silver to blue is from one extreme to the other! Blue would give me constant headaches.

I think red but im not 100% on that (i dont visit ppl that much they usually come to me lol). As far as feel and sound goes I haven't heard him complain about it except that the spacebar is a bit louder then the other keys (?) but in general they are decently silent. Not the most silent but enough for him anyway. But thats really all I can say about it so... Yeah xD

I have a Razer Huntsman Elite and I love it. I like the sound of mechanical keys personally.

I just found out that they give you a palette of switches to choose from, like when you go to buy paint or carpet.
......I mean.... what?!

I saw that - a switch sampler! But how they sound changes depending on what keycaps you use, so it only gives a general idea.

I just got one for Christmas. It's a Ducky One 2 Skyline with MX Cherry silent reds.

ooh, what are they like? Nice and quiet? Soft (no pressure needed)? Would you prefer a different switch?

I started a conversation with you because my reply was too big to fit here.

If you do a lot of voice/video calls I'd recommend a quieter switch if you care about others. I constantly get complaints about my keyboard being too noisy (and it really isnt compared to the blue clicks). Silent reds will probably do you fine tbh. the red actuate further than silvers, thats my main gripe with the silver, they trigger at the lightest brush of a key.. So many typos... Like, so many....

as it hasnt been asked yet: what keyboard did you actually get? :)

I just remembered, another option you can get is a hotswappable board. This allows you to replace the switches any time you want. Of course, I have read that you can accidentally pull the switches out while changing keycaps.
