Well... "game mechanics and game design" is a little broad since that could mean literally anything in video game history.

Do you have some specific topics in mind?
Also, if you want to start an open and lively discussion, then it would probably be better to open a new thread for this.

Tip no.1: Feel free to learn from others, and deliberately avoid every single thing they suggest.
Tip no.2: My teacher taught me, "Do not learn how to be rich, from the poor. They don't know what they're talking about." So always look into the accomplishments of the person advising/suggesting you something.

just hopped into project recruitment... hoping to maybe find some artists to help with parallax maps and whatnot. I could do them myself, but I'm not really good at it so I'd prefer to stick to my strengths which is character art and SOME UI elements.
