A lot of people take RPG Maker seriously. Original stuff just tends to be private. The only way to get attention from artists is to show your game design concept and interest them.
Good point... I think I'll wrap up what I'm doing and polish it, then release it here as a short demo. If people think its good, save the RTP and nonoriginal art, then maybe I can find some artists on here. I just have basically no money to dish out.
There are a lot of threads in Resource Showcase that offer completely free resources, not to mention that there are many resource blogs out there. Keep an eye out for interesting stuff, and you can find ways to spruce things up.
Personally, I'm quite serious about my game I'm making, as I'm sure many others are too. It's isn't always easy, and we can't be good at everything (like, I'm not a graphic artist or musician), but there's lots of resources or help that is available. Keep at it and good luck with your project.
