I played the beta and I didn’t find anything interesting about it. You just go slash a big monster for 10-20 minutes until it dies and sometimes chase it. The FPS also drops horribly and it’s not comfortable to play. (Atleast for me)
Yeah, for a real learning experience, Monster Hunter Generations or Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is where you really want to start. MH is lot more than "go slash a big monster for 10-20 minutes until it dies"- MH4U's "Master's Test" and "The Caravaneer's Challenge" quests attest to this. In those quests (and several others across the series), strategy is way more important than gear,
such as: "when knowing that you are going to deal with two large monsters in the same enclosed/small space, do you smoke bomb immediately and only let one see you, do you throw a dung bomb at one and force it to move to a different area, or (in the case of Arena quests that let you use it)
do you try to time it where you can separate the two monsters with the gate for a short amount of time?", "The monster I'm going to fight has really tough skin and my attacks will bounce off it, so do I bring the Mind's Eye skill or do I use a ranged weapon with pierce rounds?", "What do
I need to bring to fight X monster- does the monster use poison? Bring some Antidotes, then," I could talk about MH all day, but then you'd end up with like 500+ notifs, so I'll get off my soap box for now. (had to split post up due to 420 character limit)
