I wouldn't personally use them, they don't it my game ideas, but that sounds like it'd be really cool looking.

I think that has less to do with religion and more to do with people finding any excuse to be as awful as they want.

Yeah but I'm just saying it because I know there's a lot of controversy when a deity is even showcased in a video game (Hinduism is one of them). I know in a game I'm currently playing, they had to change the names slightly just so they won't be under fire for using Quran angels.

About the controversy aspect, gotta keep in mind that the deities aren't the same as using mythological creatures (ancient Egypt or Greek myths) because many ppl believe in them, where mythology is religiously obsolete.
So 1 person can see the artistic appeal and use of the sprite while another considers it blasphemous.

I'm all for assets of different types (incl religious ones) as long as you're aware of possible issues.
The extremists are minorities but it's important to be aware of them too^^
Japanese rpgs have used deities and foreign religious references for as long as I can remember, but I guess it's acceptable in their culture.

It's easier in Japan because of the language barrier too. But once it's translated to English, oh boi.

It's always interesting, the varying perspectives. Especially when you consider that the only difference between mythology and modern religious beliefs is their place in history.

There's always a few nutjobs who think it's okay to threaten and harm others for using symbols and figures from their beliefs. Of course, that hasn't stopped the silly amount of games using Christian, Judaic, and various pagan beliefs and important figures as both protagonists and antagonists - same goes for films and books.

@Archeia It's true and many Japanese games get heavily edited English-language versions, or they wouldn't be able to sell in some places.

@Gabrelik Yeah we have to deal with the present ^^ I'm pretty sure if they made games 2500 years ago with Zeus in them doing a "thunder spell", the devs would get stoned for bringing his fury upon the village.

As much as I'd probably admire your art, I probably wouldn't use them as I don't know how to culturally use them properly. I don't want to offend someone based on my ignorance.
