Dynamic difficulty based on player performance

Not really considering this for my own project, but just something random I thought about. So the idea is basically the combat system having an invisible grading system that gauges player performance during key encounters (could factor in a combination of things, like turns taken to beat, party...

Yanfly Engine Ace Enemy Levels in status effect

Script in question: https://yanflychannel.wordpress.com/rmvxa/gameplay-scripts/enemy-levels/ Reason: The reason for this is I am using it as a semi-controllable difficulty system (easy mode, normal mode) for my game. As title says, I'm looking to use the enemy levels script notetags in a...

Puzzles and how you test them!

Hi guys! I'm creating a puzzle heavy battle-free game because that's something I've personally always liked. But my spouse brought up an interesting point that has me thinking! Puzzle games aren't for everyone, and sometimes button mashers or even battle-based levelling games can be simple...

How do you know how hard your puzzles are?

So, here's the situation: the characters are descending deeper and deeper into a dungeon. At regular intervals, they reach a room with a sort of block puzzle in it, and when the block puzzle is completed, it turns on a teleporter. Thus, they don't have to do the whole dungeon in one go. The...

Making your project tough but fair.

Worried about making my project become too difficult or easy to break. Wondering what are some thoughts in this board regarding the ideal level of difficulty in an RPG without being too unfair. Any RPGs I should look into?

    Difficulty Settings, practical solution

The crux of difficulty levels. The player doesn't know which to choose. And how could he? He hasn't played the game before. Even worse if they have to prove themselves towards others. So, i decided to give the player the option after an introductionary sequence, but in a more practical way -...

    EnemyBook + Difficulty Selection

Hello there. Several months ago, I asked for a plugin to do several difficulties. I got one from Heartbreak61 which I am currently using. It's this one:  I am also using the updated EnemyBook from SkottyTV and DragonPC:  I already asked there in the thread, but it seems both of...
  10. Difficulty / Random Encounter Rate Slider

Good morning! I have a request for a plugin I've long since looked for and considered a nice modern "quality of life" improvement for RPGs. That is, the game's difficulty and random encounter rate can be changed at any time with an option in the menu.  One game that had this feature was...

Difficulty in Battles - Preferences and Thoughts

When it comes to battles in RPGs, what kind of challenge do you prefer? Do you think regular encounters should be strong enough to pose a threat to the party if the player isn't paying attention, or do you believe that making regular encounters too strong would make boss fights feel less...

    Mini Game Questions!

I'm putting together a dancing mini game using events (and for some crazy reason it's working!). This is kind of like DDR for the medieval ages. Muahahaha! A player has to press the left, right, down, or up arrows (roughly) in time with the dance music, otherwise the couple won't dance. Right...

Game difficulty settings that change enemy AI

Hi there! I've looked around the forums for a bit for a script that lets you modify enemy AI behavior depending on what difficulty setting you choose. In my case, I want to put in 3 modes: Monster Intelligence - Normal, Smart, Devious Normal changes nothing. Smart checks the monsters' stats...

just beat ff7 original for the first time since 2010. having played remake last year, I have a much better appreciation for the original oddly enough. I still like some of the character presentation in remake more, but the original's got a lot going for it.
