Giving The Player Choices, and Taking Them Away

My story takes the Hero into a situation where (I had planned) to give them a series of questions, the answers of which would lead them to what their "personal hero" would look like.  Then I ran into a creative issue. The story, as I have it written, requires the hero to have certain specific...

RPG Makers are flooding Gaming Industry

(No Offence intended for RPG Maker and Steam Community) I had conversation with my friend ,I told him that I am using RPG Maker for building a game :)  . He said something that made me worried. :(   Is he right?  :O Are RPG Makers flooding the Gaming Industry with worthless games? ...

New to RPG Maker VX Ace

Hello guys, let's put it bluntly: I'm new here, thus new to the RPG Maker engines. I am a really big fan of the RPG genre, or everything that is story-heavy (RPGs, Adventures, or Visual Novels) and atmospherically overwhelming. But the current problem is, I want to have my own story, my own...

How our perspective about game changes after becoming a developer

Hello All  :) !! I don't know whether you find this interesting , or you noticed it or not.   The perspective of a person sitting in stage watching a show changes when He/She is taking part in that show. Because now He/She knows about what is happening behind the curtain (stage).  This is...

    What Defines a 'true' RPG?

Okay, am I the only one consistantly frustrated with Game companies labeling a game as an RPG just because it has a level up system? Or some other Element that most RPG's have in them? You know, like an emo anime eyed teenager with spiky hair? To me, most games labeled as an RPG aren't really...

Do you have religion in your game?

Many games feature temples that players ressurect when dying. Usually they are run by a priest and priests are usually the front spokesman about their religion. What are your thoughts about these temples? Do you have religion in your game? What roles do the gods play in your game? Are your...

    Discussion: Why an RPG?

I thought I'd start off a conversation to introduce myself to the forums properly. Please let me know if this topic has been discussed to death. :) As someone who fiddles around with game development on a semi-regular basis, I've dabbled in several genres and presentations for my ideas. (Heck...
  10. Opinion on my in-use HP Damage Split concept?

Using the spell Blood Bond, you can take half of supposed damage dealt to an ally, unless the split damage would still kill the target. This spell can be used in a way, where, say, a character with higher HP can help their squishy ally survive longer. Using the spell Blood Pact, you can have an...

Touched by the Angel (Of Death)

Has anyone else had any close encounters with Azrael? I had seen Ikari's post about nearly being run over, and it reminded me of the time I have been in near fatal situations, including: Waking up to my room on fire, FILLED WITH SMOKE. I didn't even have a smoke detector, so it was pure luck...

    Stance on emulation?

What do you guys think about emulation? I for one am a huge proponent of emulation for a few reasons; 1) Backups of physical games in case they are damaged (Also the only way I condone torrents) 2) Playing international versions of games you own. The prime example is Final Fantasy XII IZJS...

Any Metalheads in the forum? :P

Hello all. First of all Merry Christmas!  :) As some of you (a few) already may know, besides game making I'm also an addicted to music (metal and rock mostly but all other genres too if the music is good). I play guitar and other instruments too and I also like to compose some songs.  So...

What kind of Main Character you prefer?

As we gamers continue to play our RPG games the main  characters personality traits are always different this is what makes the story different to all the others even though some Main Characters have the same trait in different games, we get many different varieties Brave/Righteous Introverted...

    Making a good game/a noob's ramblings

Hello everyone, While I'm relatively new to this community and basically just started on my first project, I would love to see people share their visions on what makes a good game and see if people agree. If there's already a topic for this, I'm sorry. I guess I'm just in a rambling mood and...

    Battle Animation length/general discussion

I think one part of RPG game design that has a big impact is the attack animations, no matter what battle system you use(I use the YEA Battle Engine tho). There's often a temptation, to me, to make every animation something drawn-out and fancy, even when the game would benefit more from...

XP / VX / VXA Mini Games Recommendation

Alright, so this whole year (starting August 2012), I am thinking of creating simple / mini games using VXA, with a slight use of scripts and events, that is. The problem I do just encounter is that my ideas, or list of mini games to create, has been filled up when I started to search RM game...

    Using Videogame Music in Projects

What's everyone's opinion on the music played in a game? Would you prefer originally composed music over tunes from videogames? My personal opinion is that as long as it fits the scene then it's fine. However what I don't want to see is someone using a bundle of tunes from various games over...

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
