I can't get pictures to scroll with "key input" script call conditional branches or "button press" conditional branches.

You should theoretically be able to do this. Could you post a screenshot of your event?

I don't know what I did wrong the first time, but I am able to make it move up or down now... I'm sorry for making a totally useless thread (this isn't the first time I've done so...)

It is still better if you show how is your attempt to do it to share with others. So this thread won't be totally useless.
