Realistically speaking, the US is too large and geographically diverse to be compressed into one Pokemon region. Gen V and VII both made full sized regions off of a single metro area and a single state respectively, and Unova especially even cuts out plenty of stuff from the actual NYC-metro to fit. If you want to be able to fully explore your setting, I'd choose a specific area from the US and focus on that. New England or the Great Lakes region would give you some very interesting settings and your gameplay a unique feeling for a Pokemon fangame(rural, cold region for New England anchored by a massive city in your Boston equivalent, and a an urban-industrial feel for a region based of the Great Lake states)

Im not from US, but fate taught me of the legend called paul bunyan, I think he is from US folklore. There is also bigfoot or sasquatch, but I guess he isnt exclusive from US.

But tbh this country is just too big, with too much history and cultures to a single pokemon game I think, if I were to choose I would say that what I most like about the story of the US is the wild west times or independence, I just don't know how this would fit as a pokemon game haha theyre just too dark or serious for this kind of game
