To be fair all the people who mentioned the dithering are pixel artists. I think we just see it too often used in places where it doesn't belong or to hide flaws so we're biased.
I do understand that sometimes it doesn't look as good, especially if someone over uses it, or creates too much of a contrast between two colors. It is a nice technique though, it limits you to use less colors, and create more through crosshatching, thats what I love about it.To be fair all the people who mentioned the dithering are pixel artists.
