FINALLY! Someone who does know it is a 1926 movie and knows the facts rights. It is a wonder if folks on Wikipedia and IBDM ever handled books!
Seriously, it seems that in every corner I go someone beats me into MAKING an animated version and then NOW that I have RPGMaker VX Ace, a game version. *sigh*
Well you know in ten years Metropolis will have 100 years. (and it was Grot not Groot? Do you know/have the 8 bits that Gorgio Mororder didn't got right? I lost count upon how many times I saw that movie about 20 years ago when it was around 82 times. I did a lot of paper documentation back then and... even nailed right some then missing bits; Josaphat and Slim's fight, retracing back Freder's contact via Georg 11811 at the Yoshiwara, the miss edit of Rotwang accepting Joh's contract because he saw that it was about to destroy the one he loved by destroying his son. Also that Rotwang wasn't a crazy lunatic when he got back to recapture Maria as the mob would had cooked him too if they learned the truth... etc.)
You know, there is a lot of minigames to play being multiple characters in that story, whether it is Slim trying to follow Freder, Josaphat again trying to get back to him, of course Freder, Maria is also a VERY good feminine presence... Not to mention HEL. Groot trying to save the Heart-machine (Would it be translated as the Central unit? To be modern?)
Really, I wish you have fun with it because you are undertaking one of my greatest Dream and push it a bit beyond! You know there were rights involved to attempt to redo the movie as from today? When we see Matrix Reloaded and know one of the main guys working on the production has it as his second best movie of all time, we can understand it is the WORST movie ever to go to see with me unless you have a clean sock, ducktape and rope! XD
Have you reserved authorizations or rights for it? I know that Kino was kinda arsh about it in the last years. I don't even know if Metropolis 2010+ version is still in production. It kinda was a movie made for our days and it is still really true in both reality and as a template for fiction. Hey, Superman's creators wanted THEIR hero in there...
It took time to mesh the two together visually in comics.
ADDENDUM;
I see you also know about the great London Opera of it!
Also clicked a reference link... THERE IS A CYBERPUNK GAME AFTER IT? Shooooooooooooooooo...
I sure wish I had run one of theses!
