First boss battle in my game. I 'll be lowering the difficulty slightly. Think the grenades should only cover 3 squares squared instead of 4.

Did a draft for a logo:

Suggestions are welcome.

Monsters have been stated and I've begun converting over some castle tiles, and may dip into the Nekura tiles I bought exclusively through Pivix's Booth system in Japan.

Working on a concept for the creatures in game. I won't spoil anything however their appearance is supposed to feel off in the game and give an overall eerie feel. Since the game will be dark as well [in terms of lighting] this type of drawing fits. At least for me. Sprite-ing them won't be easy however, thankfully tomorrow is a day off for me so I get to finish mapping everything and hopefully get a good amount of eventing in.

I have a lot more faces for the characters as well.

Again I am still thinking about which part of the image will be the focal point of my title screen.

I also finally finished entering and setting up all the tiles in the database properly and inserting all the scripts I will be using. Phew being able to get things done feels great :kaopride:

So I've got three of the main areas mapped now! (Warning large!)
A monster camp.
Screenshot (162).png
(lol, I forgot I had the starting position in here when I took the screenshot!)
A human fort.
Screenshot (88).png
(I cheated on this one, as anyone who's looked at the pre-made maps could probably tell!)
And the main town.
Screenshot (89).png
Overall I'm pretty happy with how everything looks thus far, (there are a few problems but for now since I'm working alone I have bigger fish to fry) there's only one other main area left to map, then I can focus on the smaller areas that serve to connect them. (I'm hoping to get that done tomorrow) Then I'll focus on making all the story events, followed by making all the necessary skills, balancing, and coming up with the main characters design so I can make his sprite.

@Dreadshadow The lower resolution pixel tiles work in all versions of the maker, so if you chose one of those styles you wouldn't need to pick the engine first. I personally think they're easier to edit too.
.

Wait, what?
How do you set the map tiles to be 32x32 on MV then?

@Dreadshadow The actual size of the tiles for the low res pixel sets is 16x16, so if you resize them to 48x48 without any interpolation they'll do it cleanly. By low res I mean the POP Horror or Time Fantasy and such. Pixel Myth and Nightmare Land and DS don't work, they're higher res. But if you still want 32x32 tiles, Shaz made a plugin for that.

I have started mapping! One of my favourite parts, other than eventing (which is my absolute favourite part, because it means I can see what I'm imagining come alive!). I should have some screenshots to show ya'll Saturday evening, or Sunday sometime. I'm having great fun doing this, and I hope the finished product will be fun for all. I mean, I'd like to win stuff, but in the end, I'll just be happy to say I finished a brief game that was fun for me and others!

Good (morning?) all! Here is my latest update~

Just a bunch of UI work. * - * I'd say I'm about 30% done with all the UI assets. Whoooo!

Everyone's work is so inspiring and motivating. Loving seeing everything!

UI Assets done today!

Also, the programmer and I discussed a couple days ago about reducing our scope JUST for the contest entry. We won't be releasing a game with 3 arcs (out of 4 outlined) like we originally planned. Instead, we will be extending arc 1 while touching on some core ideas. That way we can be MUCH, MUCH more polished and have more time to work on other "extra" features on our nice-to-have list. ^_^

That and... if we decide to continue working on this (which I think we will), we'll be adding a couple extra characters that were heavily requested! //coughTorcough//

:D

-----------------------------------------

@Guardinthena - I love the face shot of the main character! She is absolutely gorgeous! > v <
@TriceratopsX - The map is looking spiffy!! Everything's coming together. :D Love the little tent in the corner there~ hehe
@Enigma_Productions - Oh my gosh! Your sprites are SOO cute ; - ; just want to pinch everyone's cheeks. Also spooky title screen, I DIG! <3
@padr81 - Those retries tho. LOL Tough boss is tough.

Todays Progress: Didn't slept stayed all day on the story but at last, It's done, there are some mistakes here and there but I'll fix them on the engine, The Event Horizon Murder Case is gonna be about finding the real killer of Niles, the original creator of Kyla the most advance AI of the time, being kinda like an Ace Attorney Investigations
Had the design of Niles made as well as his color but I wasn't satisfied I'll ask a friend help for that since I won't be able to finish without help:
Now next quests
Finish Kyla's design since I only sketched here, and start mapping everything
but I think today I will just focus on the university stuff sadly, maybe sunday I'll keep the ride

I had to take 2 days off since I was lacking quite a bit of sleep. It sucks since I can only work at 12 A.M to 2 A.M and then sleep. But lately I've been pushing to the point where I didn't sleep for that night and that left me too exhausted :kaoswt2:]
@Enigma_Productions I think that's gonna happen to me today for not sleeping I suck when I don't sleep

Everyone's making such great progress. Really love all the screenshots you guys posted.
I still haven't started in editor but I also wanted to share something, so here's the sprites I've been working on:

Still a few more sprites to go. And I still need to continue writing the last chapter of the game. But after that it's on to actually opening the editor. :)

@woobv Thanks for the kind words, also, those are some great asset creations. Beautiful characters and amazing UI work, I must say! The idea of the project itself is super creative as well!

@woobv That UI looks lovely! I have no idea what you're game is going to be, but the graphics alone are quite appealing.

@slimmmeiske2 I love those sprites. Very, very nice! I also have to ask about the animated sprite in your sig: Is that Charlotte Flair?

@Paladin-Cleric of Awesome I totally get that. I just hope mine is fun and engaging. I'd love to win something, but in the end, I just want to say I entered and had fun doing so, and maybe created something that others enjoy!

@JacobM I have really enjoyed your updates. I'm astounded at the 3D stuff. Looks amazing.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
