At the start of the month I said there was event I joined and wanted to complete a demo for... and I did it! I'm... extremely proud of myself :kaoblush:

So overall my year-goal is to... work on it as much as I can. More specifically the goal for the rest of this month + end of next month is to start working on finalizing the characters' designs and making the rest of the HUD graphics myself.

My goal for right now is to finish the fourth stage of my game. I know I can get it done this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can get.

A new system type to start the new month. Thanks to WSL2 I have added Debian/Ubuntu support for my game package which I have just now completed.

Nothing else to report aside from a small change to the entrance for the final dungeon and some adjustments to the victory scene and debrief to accommodate other rewrites, and I may be taking the month off to get focused for a week's worth of development-related sessions that I signed up for starting on the 15th.

Another change in development to report. After researching my options after Xcode bombed out with the latest updates I decided that I would use the NW.JS redistributable to get the Mac version back on track. Unfortunately I have to scratch both iPhone and iPad to even support Apple devices for now, but if I can get it to work off my website then perhaps I can reevaluate use of those devices with a "cloud edition" of the game.

Sadly, I'm in the boat of life interfering with game development. Having set a goal for February to complete a particular key point in my project with parallax art work, I fell far short of that goal, not for lack of motivation or skill but rather physical time to dedicate.

Between a complete kitchen and garage remodel, there wasn't a lot of spare time to put towards my project. But now that those real life projects have been mostly taken care of, perhaps March will look better. Then again, I've looked at this project as a form of entertainment. And pacing myself so as not to get burnt out or stressed has helped in making steady, albeit slow progress.

To others having similar problems, a little bit here and there is better than nothing at all, if all you can manage is 1 hour a day, it's better than giving up. Wish the rest of you luck and to be well in your future development process.

This is a really good idea and can for sure help people (like me) who are bad at getting things done without a goal or tangible idea to reach. :)
I'm gonna try to be realistic with these goals knowing my work habit.

2021 Goal: Begin work on "Chapter 11". That's the second to last chapter and biggest one in my game. Granted, it would better to finish it entirely, but realistically I would be happy just getting that far into the game.

March 2021 Goal: Finally start work on "Chapter 7". I've ~technically~ been working on chapter 6 for years. And I'm so close, yet so far, to finally finishing it and getting to chapter 7 where ideas and plot threads I've had in my head for nearly half a decade will finally be revealed. Getting that far would be a huge achievement.


And I just want to say good luck to everyone else with their goals!! :D Sometimes it's hard to get yourself to work, sometimes you don't even have the time or the will, but we're all here for a similar purpose and I hope you all can get your goals completed. :)

I finished one Disney world in my kingdomhearts fan game but it took a week. Balanced the bosses and still having trouble with events.
Goals:Have three more worlds done this month

This may be my last update for a long time. I have recently lost support with close associates who want this to stay as a hobby and nothing more because it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. Unfortunately this means that I had to promise that if nothing comes back in favor of anyone picking up my project after this month then it's game over. And because they are in my family and my upbringing says that one must honor what their family says, then unfortunately I don't have much of a choice.

I will continue to use what remains of my work as a benchmark for supporting the community, but I can't promise anything else after this month. I tried my best.

EDIT: I have since decided that I will be continuing after all, no matter the capacity by which I do so.

A few major updates to share:

  1. I have updated my Xbox version to scale the screen more accurately without having to rely on resolution detection when run on a device other than an actual Xbox console (so that the game resizes properly without regard for custom system scaling).
  2. I have also updated the casino area to make it slightly more populated.
  3. The ice dungeon has been edited to remove the stair puzzle and replace it with a pathfinder area.
  4. The buzzer for the boss warning now uses the same sound as the stone eye attack from a certain boss later in the game.
  5. The demo has been updated to include assets that are requested by the game at runtime in spite of them not being used.
  6. Added March 21: Plug-ins updated for the Xbox version to achieve synchronization with other builds. Required some code changes to function properly but otherwise it works.

Hullo. On the last of my romance illustrations spree got 2 optional left but 3 spaceships as well to do. It is great to read of you all. Sorry I am so funel visionning into that art spree that I tried to cut out everything that could slow me down and I am sorry not to had posted here in a while.

March Goal: Get started on Chapter 7. Result: Unfinished (but with an asterisk)

Asterisk for March: I made little progress on completing this goal, BUT I did do a lot, a LOT of work on the demo, and by extension, the full game as well. Untold Story Demo underwent TWO different updates during March, both adding a lot of new mechanics and content, and I learned a whole bunch about development. So, yes, I didn't finish my set goal, but I think I achieved another goal all together, and that's a victory for me. :)

April Goal: I'm going to cheat and give the same goal. :LZSlol: By the end of April I want to have started work on Chapter 7. This time I really, really want to get that far so I'm gonna make it happen!!

March ends for me with three main adjustments:
  1. Added a boss test and scene test to the debug assist menu, along with a data clear function (with the first two being "in progress" additions)
  2. Updated the test build for Xbox so that the "k-code" works during game start for opening the debug assist menu
  3. Added a new plugin that treats video clips as layers which both fixes the audio playback issue I had and accounts for the NDA watermark function on my Xbox build
For April, my goals will depend in many parts on the status of my Xbox re-evaluation, but at the very least I will continue to try new things with what I have (and hopefully I'll get to where I left off with testing and writing so I can finally start working on my Wukong scenario).

I feel like I haven't worked on Collector in 3 or 4 weeks. Well, that changes today! :kaopride:

I'm struggling with one of the new gangs, so I've changed gears to work on some other stuff, namely a business called "Mental Express". It's highly inspired by Johnny Mnemonic (the short story).

We've been working on our game for 3 years now, and we're working towards releasing a free demo (about 4 hours of play time) this summer.

Some fresh updates to start the week:

  1. I decided that I was done with the character designs that I had been using, and in particular because the cutscenes are being partially redone in manga style (and with a complete lack of assets for what I was using in-engine) so I'm giving the characters an in-game appearance which matches up with their appearances in the cutscenes so that the game is a bit more consistent with character design. This has resulted in some interesting combinations: the dark mystic is now rocking a white tee with blue jeans while the enforcer has changed from using a plated patrol suit to more of a detective's ensemble of a blazer and slacks which I think is a better overall fit, considering how NYPD officers appear in other media. Not to mention that my mom used to watch a ton of Law & Order episodes from which I could more accurately reference my character design base.
  2. I have finally started my implementation of the Wukong material, and have paired it with the women's dominion in my game. This will eventually lead to a rather... interesting situation that needs to be accommodated in order to actually gain access to the immortal's domain.
  3. I have some pending roadmap updates that I can't mention just yet, but which I have been planning for quite some time. EDIT: I can now officially confirm that I'm approved to launch on both Steam and Xbox as a cross-gen experience.
  4. I have decided to reprogram the looping map from my secret lab mission in order to accommodate some of the engine limitations that I discovered awhile back, and plan to begin work on that in the coming days.
  5. I was able to recover my existing Steamworks registration for use with my game (but only on the prospect of a technicality - although the concept is very different than what I had previously registered, it is still a reboot of the project for which the mechanics have been heavily simplified from what I started with under the prior concept that the new material has long-since replaced).

Also I am on someonelse's ship and funnel vision so much on it that I try to not get distracted and just show the finished or well advance phase of my work.

BTW a very elderly cat says HI to you all. Yeah DC. She'll be 18 in july! (That is between 90 and 150 in human age ^^) she sends you love by cooing and helicopter purring. ^^

Just finished an auction house feature in my game. One part runs on a timer, where items are chosen at random from the database and are able to be bid on by the player. Another part is a blind auction where you can place bids and compete against NPCs for an unknown reward of high quality. Both parts are fully automated and run while you do other stuff. It even sends a global alert if you are outbid. Pretty happy about it!

My next goal is to finish mapping my next dungeon and design another segment of the story. :)

I did suprisingly a lot of stuff these last few days:
- Created lots of resources; some were edits for my map entry, others were me trying out Avery's amazing tutorial. I've already shared the MZ catgirl facesets in my resource thread and I'll be sharing the People3_8 (palace guard/gatekeeper) facesets soon.
- Finished a map for my Halloween game (= unfinished Horror jam entry from last year) and started eventing basic things.
- Sort of finished my January goal: I finally cut up that big forest in 6 parts, as well as did some small edits as some parts felt pretty empty 1/1. I also finished the last interior for Windmill, so that leaves currently only 5 interiors left to do (if I counted correctly).

All thanks to a little bit of feedback and a contest that forces me to open rpg maker regulary. :D

It's time for episode 19 of our Make a Cliff Map in RPG Maker MZ... I mean, Make a Game in RPG Maker MZ! Today we're working on our cliff map again. Let's see if we can finish it this time!
