Drifty, in collaboration with Tea from Tea's Jams is excited to announce that the Driftwood Gaming Channel will be holding an awesome event to be hosted on the official Driftwood Gaming YouTube Channel in celebration of RPG Maker MV, the RPG Maker community and the channels achievement of reaching 10,000 subs! We would like to thank everyone for their support of Driftwood Gaming and encourage all to join in on the fun! The winner(s) will receive a steam key of their choice from a sizable collection of keys available. In this event, participants will be asked to create a 5 minute or less demo of a battle showcasing a custom action sequence and at least one custom battle animation.

Each entry can have one or more (as many as you like) custom action sequences and custom animations, be advised that your entry will be judged overall by the highest scoring sequence and animation.

RULES:

1.) Your sequence should be built from scratch, it can be one you built previously from scratch (The whole demo should be no longer than 5 minutes)

2.) Action sequence must have at least one custom animation

3.) You may use any action sequence plugin you desire. (It's recommended that you use Yanfly's action sequence plug in packs 1, 2 and 3)

4.) We reserve the right to declare more that one winner if the winning entries are an apples to oranges comparison.

5.) The submission period will be two weeks. The voting period will start at the end of the submission period and last two weeks. 6.) Please remember to credit asset owners of any assets used in your entry properly.

7.) By submitting an entry, you agree to allow others to use your action battle sequence under the CC (Creative Commons) License with Attribution. Please include the name you would like people to use when crediting your work. (This does not include your graphics, animations and/or any other custom assets used in your submissions.)

8.) If we see the default spark animation your entry will be immediately DQ'ed. ;P (seriously though, you will get DQ'ed)

9.) Do not copy and paste others existing action sequences, if this is done and discovered, you will be DQ'ed. (You may use existing action sequences as a inspiration, but there should be significant transformative modification to the existing work)

SCORING CRITERIA

A. Camera work (zooming, motion, scrolling, panning ext.)

B. Sound effects

C. Custom Animation (Smoothness, aesthetic, ext...)

D. Action Sequence timing and execution

E. Creativity

I don't think the camera movement should be a separate criterium.
An animation is created by visuals, but since camera is a part of the visuals as well, I don't see the point of having it as a separate category. It would also make it easier for us who find camera movements, especially quick ones, rather disturbing. So instead of having three separate categories for visual parts you could unify them into one huge category - visuals.

And there wwould also be space for a category you completely omitted - the point of an animation. Which goes well with the fact that you have made the creative commons rule. After all, it's nice if an animation is flashy, but if its only point is being flashy, it's kind of weird to me. The best thing is when an animation is good and accompanies the skill well.

Don't worry, I understand that it's your competition - your rules, but I had to input my two cents here.

Nevertheless, good luck to those who participate!

This could be interesting. So far, I've focused more on learning mechanical aspects of game making instead of graphical aspects. This could be useful in learning animations.

The animation editor in MV is pretty incredible. I don't personally know about the other engines, but I'm sure they're good too!

For some reason, when I follow the link, I go to some kind of error page. Is there something else I need to do first?

I think I'd better ask this now before I run into problems with it later. The rules say not to use the default spark animation or you will be DQ'ed. I had a plan for my animation that involved one of the Thunder graphics, but not as part of a lightning animation. I'm pretty sure a lot of that is sarcasm in a sense, but I don't want to take chances. I put a lot of work into this, and I'd hate to have my submission rejected over a stupid mistake I made.

Yeah, don't use Thunder All 1, the rest are fine. (It's highly overused and I think Drifty hopes to encourage branching out from it by barring it, he thinks it must be the most used default animation.)

(which, imo, means the team at Degica did a great job with it, since so many people want to use it! :) Although after seeing it so many times, he wants to see other ones being used, or your own)

Submitted my game before leaving for work today. Not sure how I did, but the point is to learn.

Good Luck to anyone else entering.

This thread stated it's for MV, the itch.io page state only "the engine". So is this MV exclusive or not?

It has been decided that it can be any RPG Maker engine. The thread will be updated, thank you for pointing that out. : D

Also if I listen correctly, I could use custom animation I've made for my game?

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
