I'm really loving the new MV, especially on my Mac laptop!!!

But one thing has thrown me for a curve ball. On the main interface on the left, you have tiles and they are tabbed A, B, C, D, E, and R (you may not see D and E if you don't assign them values in the tileset database). But what the heck is R? It looks like a bunch of pastel tiles number from 1 to 255. I looks through the help and didn't find anything and neither did I find anything on a quick internet search and I don't see this on earlier RPG Maker versions?

    Anyone know what this is?

PS: the new 48x48 tiles are ... beautiful. Absolutely beautiful!!!

R is regions, used to be a button at the top in Ace.

RegionIDs, They aren't visible. They were introduced in RPG Maker VX Ace. They are by default used to determine enemy encounters. Like you can paint different regionids on different areas of a world map and then when you set encounters, decide what encounters happen by region.

You can also find the regionid the player is standing on with events, which allows you to use it in a lot of other neat ways.

Also, with plugins you can do crazy cool things, like region events with YEP.

Also, an extra bonus from moving them to the tileset tab rather than making them their own tool at the top: The different paint tools (fill, square, circle) now work with it.

R are Region IDs which can be used for various things. For example you can check if a player is on a certain region and then do some stuff. Some scripts use region ids to block areas for event/players and other stuff.

Regions can be used to mark map areas, and then you can check them to activate something.

By default, random encounters can be region-based (map properties).

The event command "get location info" can check if there is a region number on any map coordinate

Yanfly made several plugins that use region codes for different purposes like move restrictions, calling common events and more

Edit: too many ninjas to count...
